This beautiful new girl is a Fiji banded iguana and she needs a name!
Fiji banded iguanas are an arboreal species native to the Fiji islands and are sadly classed as an endangered species according to the IUCN red list and are incredibly rare to find in the wild.
Like most iguanas, these guys are herbivores although as they are so rare in the wild not much research has been possible on their diets.
They are found in both wet & dry forests, although wet forests hold more variety in plant life.
In captivity these beautiful small iguanas only get up to 60cm (unlike the much larger green iguanas that can get up to 170cm or the rhino iguanas that can get up to 135cm)
and can live up to 25 years!
(She is currently in a temporary enclosure until she moves into her 4ft x 2ft x 3ft high home ☺️)
So if you can think of a wonderful name for this wonderful little girl leave your name suggestions in the comments!

If you could have one of our Cockapoo therapy dogs, who would you pick?!
You have the choice of Lottie- the black Cockapoo who is highly intelligent, picks up anything you teach her, but is a complete sock theif, ninja and trouble maker!
Or there’s Coco the brown Cockapoo who is very affectionate (to the point she is like Velcro to your side or neck!), is a complete lap dog but is a ‘teddy bear with a heartbeat’ as she hasn’t exactly got much going on upstairs 🤦🏼♀️😂😂
So, if you had to choose- who would it be?!

It’s a hard life being a dog you know!!
Indie the iguana
Indie came to us as a rescue because her previous owner surrendered her due to not realising how big these guys get to (can reach up to 5ft if female or 6/7ft if a male!!) and how tricky their husbandry can be.
These guys require an enclosure that is 10ft x 5ft x 6ft high.
We are in the process of making a 9ft x 5ft x 7ft high walk in room, which will have a further 4ft x 5ft outdoor space (so will have a total of 13ft x 5ft)
Most people would not have the space to accommodate such a large space.
They also require high temperatures, with their basking spot being 120°F (50°C) and their humidity staying between 60-80% which means they need a misting system in place.
Because these guys get so big, you have to be careful with handling. Although they are herbivores, they have incredible claws that can cause a lot of damage- so can their sharp teeth! They also use their tail to whip if scared/annoyed which can really hurt too! So they are not for the fainthearted!
When Indie came to us, she was scared of everyone and you couldn’t get near her, but with persistence from the staff and time, she has really started to trust us 💕

Education is the most powerful tool which can change the world
Education is the most powerful tool which can change the world…Educating all ages on animal welfare, conservation and nature is important, but especially for the next generations…As the quote by Benjamin Franklin says: “Tell me and I forget, Teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn…”Children getting a chance to meet and learn about first hand, a variety of animals helps to spark an interest, love or even passion for animals that will last a lifetime… teaching in depth care and encouraging good husbandry for current and future pets which in turn can reduce the number of abandoned or neglected pets…A lot of neglect cases are from lack of education which can easily be solved! We support #responsiblereptilekeeping and the @RabbitRWAF#animaleducator #animaleducation #animalwelfare #mobilezoo #educationalzoo
