Another busy week at Dawn and Darren and the Doggies! Bella, a sweet wee girl, came for a holiday, and was joined for a couple of nights by Bert. And we also had a social outing with previous boarder Bella. It was all about the Bs with us Ds!
The new normal continues at Dawn and the Doggies, and I am making, I think, sustained and continuous progress towards a full recovery. Wisp, a gentle and sweet soul, has had a lovely time recently, and rubbed along beautifully with Baxter and overnight boarders Jasper, Annie and Pippa. Darren, another gentle and sweet soul, has continued to be amazingly helpful, and between us I think we've been doing a great job under the circumstances. It has been a challenge, but we're due a holiday soon, which includes a dog free (not sure we know what this feels like anymore!) trip to London. In the meantime it's funtime with the canines!
It's been an unusual time at Dawn and the Doggies recently. In fact I might rebrand as Darren, Dawn and the Doggies, as Darren has had to step up to being my glamorous assistant, and dog walker extraordinaire. This is because I have sustained a back injury, that is healing well, but has had a huge impact on me in the short term. Customers have been tremendously understanding about some modifications and unfortunately some cancellations that I've needed to make, and once again I truly apologise for any inconvenience. But this week boarder Rosie hasn't noticed my reduced mobility and has had a whale of a time with Baxter...and Darren! She's been a little ray of sunshine to have around, and Baxter has been happily exhausted by her energy and playfulness, as has Darren! See you again, we hope, Rosie, and next time I will be able to take you on those lovely, squirrel filled walks!
Buddy and Baxter have been inseparable this week. It's been lovely seeing them together. Baxter loves my job, as he gets to make so many lovely friends. I love my job too!
It's been busy, busy, busy at Dawn and the Doggies. Jasper, Hugo, Buddy and Wisp, joined Baxter for lots of wet walks and fun times recently. This is the most dogs I've had at any one time since I started the business last year (I'm licensed for six dogs), and I'm actually really happy about how well the boys and girl, got along. I've just got one boarder and Baxter now, and I think I'm experiencing what I can only describe as empty nest syndrome!
Let sleeping dogs...sleep? It's always so brilliant to have Sally and Albert to stay with us, and we did get plenty of walking in too, but they do love a snooze!
Baxter recently made a new friend when Rosie came for a trial night, and as she left, one of his best pals arrived for the day! Lucky Baxter. Tired Baxter!
Well today looks like it will be good weather to end the month of May, just as we get a few days off after constantly walking dogs in the rain recently! Nevertheless, it's been a fun month at Dawn and the Doggies, with Jack, Bella, and Baxter's new best friend Henry, and his brother Teddie.
Hugo enjoyed lots of walks in the shade, and naps a plenty due to the warmer weather this week. He and Baxter enjoyed staring at me until I gave them treats, and I enjoyed making sure I was in a different room when I was eating, as the staring was intense!
Molly and Jack had short but sweet stays this weekend. Despite being very different, one is a lovely old lady, and the other a lively and ball-crazy youth, they both had the time and space to have fun.
Up early this morning to take Annie out to see how we got on. If you want to home board your dog for fewer than three nights, a trial night isn't compulsory under the terms of my license. However, it's always nice to spend some time with any dog new to DatD before their stay. Annie was a delight, and is definitely a rival to regular Jasper, for the 'best recall skill' award of the dogs I board. Baxter will never be a rival, sadly. See you soon Annie!
DatD regular Jasper has had another lovely and lively stay with us, and has kept me and Baxter on our toes/paws with his energetic charges through woodland, across beaches, and on fields. Baxter and I are going to have a lie in tomorrow, to recover!
Beautiful Bella came for a trial night yesterday, and charmed Jasper and Baxter, as well as us. See you again Bella!
Jack joined us this week, and there was a lot of stick collection, ball chasing, and ball losing. I'm hoping they're a tax deductible expense! He had a lot of fun with Jasper and Baxter, and we're looking forward to seeing his latest stick collection soon!
It's not all beaches and country parks when dogs home board at Dawn and the Doggies. Here's Jasper and me after a lovely day, getting to grips with my new Agatha Christie jigsaw. No sign of Baxter, who can be so lowbrow sometimes!
Whilst it may seem that Dawn and the Doggies has been quiet for a while, the reality is that me and Baxter have been whooping it up in London for five brilliant fun, walk and culture packed weeks. We were house sitting for friends who live in a fabulous part of London, and Baxter and Rhodri, our friends' Welsh Terrier, became best buddies, and double trouble. We're back now, and we resume boarding as of tomorrow, have many meet and greets with potential new boarders booked in, and we're mostly full now for the rest of the year. So, we're really looking forward to seeing our regulars, and also to welcoming new dogs into our home, and we're also hoping that our friends go on holiday again and again and again!
We're very lucky to have Adventure Walkies Bolton for one day each week to give Baxter the opportunity to meet even more new friends under the fabulous, watchful eye of Tom. These pack walks, away from the crowds, are highly recommended by us at Dawn & The Doggies, and here are some photos of Baxter and his new pals! Thanks also to Tom and Faye at Calm the Pup Down Dog Training for all their help with Baxter, who is a lovely little rescue dog with a sad, big backstory.
Jack came to play with Baxter as a day boarder today. The sun shone, and the trails we walked along were quiet. He is an absolute darling! See you again soon Jack!
Balls, balls, balls! Bonnie was a hoot to board, as she is so fun loving, sweet natured, energetic and well behaved. We had lots of mud, rain and hailstone, but also a couple of dry sunny days, and we all fell for her charms. We made sure that she was as exercised as she is with her runner owners, and it's time for a rest now! See you soon Bonnie!
Brothers Ted and Henry kept us and Baxter on our toes earlier this week. Small items disappeared and then reappeared, and it was soon clear that Henry was very fond of socks and slippers. See you both again soon boys!
Fun in the mud this weekend with Pippa. Her and Baxter are very much an item, and had a great time together.
This week we got out and about visiting Crompton Lodges, Outwood Country Park, a secure field, and Clifton Country Park. Hugo and Baxter have had a fun time together and we're already looking forward to seeing Hugo again, as he's a real cutie!
After a lazy January, February has started with a big woof, thanks to this lovely lot. What a weekend! Jack, Maximus and DatD regularJasper were all brilliant and Baxter revelled in their company.
Wisp was an utter delight to have for her trial night at Dawn & The Doggies. She and Baxter got along great, and they had lovely walks around Prestwich Clough and Philip's Park. The beautiful weather was a welcome bonus, and we also met the Bury Dog Club which we are thinking of joining, as Baxter tried to gate crash their event, so we think he's keen! .
Baxter, me and Rhodri have had an amazing few days together, and we can't wait to see each other again in London in March.
Christmas was busy at Dawn and the Doggies, as two lovely Yorkshire Terriers came to stay. Baxter loved having two little playmates, and we all enjoyed a holiday full of walks, naps and sniffing (them, not us!).
Wish I'd seen this earlier, as it is great advice from our dog trainer Faye.
Teddie had been to DatD just before we adopted Baxter, so they hadn't met before. However, they got along like old friends, and had a great time on long, wet walks! They both vied for the space of closest to me on a chair, but Teddie won hands down, although Baxter ultimately prefers a radiator to my lap, so it all worked out!
