Ensure all windows, doors and pet flaps are securely closed - when animals are scared their ‘fight or flight’ response is often to run away, and even though outside is scary they can try to escape the house.
ENSURE ALL PETS ARE MICROCHIPPED! If your pet does manage to escape, having them microchipped will mean you that are far more likely to be reunited with a lost pet sooner rather than later.

Have you been home a little more over the Summer holidays?
Some dogs may start to show signs of anxiety when their owner indicates that they are about to leave the house, such as locking the back door or reaching for their coat or keys. If this is the case, you can carry out these actions on a regular basis without actually leaving the house. This will help to dissociate these pre-departure cues from your actual departure and avoid escalation of any anxious behaviours.
How to change your pet's diets safely 👇
Try and keep your dog or cat's diet the same but if you do need to change it then gradually change over foods over the course of a couple of weeks. You can do this by mixing in 25% of the new diet into the original diet for a few days, then 50:50, then 75:25 and so on.

Since Brexit, you can no longer use a pet passport issued in Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland) for travel to an EU country or Northern Ireland. Therefore if you wish to travel abroad from the UK with your pet, they will need valid travel documentation in the form of an animal health certificate or export certificate (depending on destination), as well as an up-to-date rabies vaccination and a working microchip. Your pet will need a new animal health certificate for each trip to an EU country or Northern Ireland, which must be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV) no more than 10 days before you travel.
Due to the complex and changeable nature of pet travel requirements, if you are unsure what your pet may need to travel abroad then you can find the current requirements for both EU and non-EU countries on the government website ( https://www.gov.uk/taking-your-pet-abroad ), or you can speak to your vet for further advice.
Don't forget to make plans for your cat if you are off on holiday this summer!
It can be stressful for your cat when you go away so try to introduce them to new situations gradually. If you are planning on having them stay in a cattery, take them to visit, then to stay for one night, before leaving them for a full week.
