+++ Amelogenesis Imperfecta (AI) / Familial Enamel Hypoplasia in Akita Inu and Parson Russell Terrier +++

We are pleased to announce that Laboklin can now offer DNA testing for Amelogenesis Imperfecta (AI) / Familial Enamel Hypoplasia in the Akita Inu and Parson Russell Terrier breeds. Sample requirements consist of Buccal Swabs or 0.5-1ml whole blood in an EDTA blood tube.

Amelogenesis Imperfecta (AI)/Familial Enamel Hypoplasia (FEH) is an inherited genetic disorder affecting the tooth enamel. Affected dogs are unable to develop normal tooth enamel (Enamel Hypoplasia) resulting in teeth being misshaped with roughening/thinning surface and greyish or brownish spots. The disease affects both baby and permanent teeth. In affected dogs, permanent teeth are pointed and unusually small with gaps between the teeth due to increased enamel wear. The gaps between the teeth increase as the dog gets older.
