What a day today has been, poor little Coco bean was showing some signs of GI stasis when I went for their morning visit, which meant he needed some meds and observation until he was eating and 💩ing again so I had a longer visit with the buns this morning and then I knew in my head I had my big lad Bear in today but he wasn’t in my diary so after a quick rearrange of todays walks we were back on track and Frankie was even up for a walk this afternoon after being a bit nervous the last couple months 🥰

Settling/Place training with Bear 🖤 Settling down in a pub/restaurant isn’t something that comes naturally to dogs, you can’t expect to take them in for the first time and have them lie down and go to sleep while you have your food and drinks, there’s a lot of stimuli that can be overwhelming to dogs if they haven’t had the socialisation/training to be able to do so (don’t get me wrong, some may never like these environments and may never be a “pub dog” but that’s another story) Not only does Bear’s Mam enjoying taking him to these places with her, he absolutely ADORES going to pubs/cafes/restaurants, but that doesn’t mean he can settle straight away in every new place he goes, just because he can settle in one pub, the next might be a completely different environment and place/settling training sessions need to be done again, so every now and then me and Bear take a trip to the pub during our walk, I grab a drink and we do some place training 😊 Bear has been to many a pub and cafe with his Mam and his old walker/trainer when he lived in London so for the most part, he knows what to expect and how to settle himself, but going back to basics and rewarding his calm behaviour and his down positions can only aid his socialisation and reaffirm his positive associations with these environments 🥰 It may not be the most physically tiring exercise, but it’s very mentally tiring for them, and I’m very thankful Bear’s Mam is more than happy for me to do these things with him, just look at how unfazed he is by the child he can hear in the bar not far from him, I think next time we’ll try for some settling around dogs as this is something he can struggle with but the more we do it in a controlled sessions, the easier he’ll find it 🫶🏼 💚🐶🤍

An early finish today meant a bonus training session with my Juno 🫶🏼 We worked on recall using verbal and whistle cues, counter conditioning away from birds and squirrels, practising impulse control and release, and engagement ✨ We started working on waiting at roads while I cross and then release her because you never know when it might come in handy in case of an emergency, and we had lots of fun running around together and playing frisbee 😊 I keep her sessions under an hour and always do a mix of training because sighthounds are notorious for getting bored in repetitive training and it keeps her on her toes 🤭 💚🐶🤍

Not only does he have the best smile in town, he also loves to catch the rain 🥹 Oh Jaffa, you couldn’t be cuter 🫶🏼 💚🐶🤍

Art of Attention with Raven and enriching activities with Merlin yesterday since it was too hot for any walks 🥵 💚🐶🤍

A lesser seen member of the Whistle and Bark pack is Flo 🤍 She was rescued by my Mam in 2017 at 8 weeks old and she has some health problems, blindness and damage to her central nervous system being amongst them, she can’t go for walks or interact much with other dogs, but she can run around in circles like no one else can, she loves her food and to play with water bottles, she LOVES cuddles, she has her own room which she can run around in to her hearts content, and we just love her so much, little Floof ✨
