This is an interesting little bird that’s turned up, it’s a Woodcock.
Not many people have seen one as they are nocturnal birds that live in undergrowth.
It had flown into a window which is easy to explain as when these birds are disturbed they fly in a zig zag pattern falling back to the ground for safety.
Even though their population is decreasing, so much so that it is now listed as Red (highly threatened) It is still shot for sport, I can not make sense of that!
I’ve put soil on the floor for this guy as they forage through soil for earthworms, he’s got a straw bed in the other side of hutch.
I’ve also taken in 2 wood pigeons one with barely any feathers that I’ve put under a heat lamp as they must be so cold. 🥶 Plus 3 poorly ferals and a tiny collared dove. 💛✨✨✨

We’ve had quite a few admissions over the past couple of days, including this juvenile Magpie who has been having trouble flying.
Also Taken in a 2 feral pigeons both with stomach issues and 3 wood pigeons, one with neurological problems and 2 suffering predator attacks.
Thanks to the finders for helping them all and dropping them off. 👍🏼✨🐦🪶

This was the recent release of 6 pigeons, though we did take 1 back home with us. Sometimes they aren’t quite strong enough so they will go back in the aviary to build up a bit more strength. They will still get their day they just have to wait a bit longer for it. ✨💛✨💛 x

This speck of a mouse turned up yesterday, it was found all alone, so I suspect it may of been removed from the nest by the mother.
In Nature, mothers selectively abandon or cull the weakest or young with defects to ensure that she can adequately provide for the rest.
We’ve had tiny hatchlings found like Samson the sparrow with deformed feet, The mother knew he would never survive in the wild so had to remove him (only the strong survive)
Anyway I’ve been checking on this little mouse through the night and offering the tiniest amounts of formula, and I’m pleased to say they are still alive this morning. 🤞 ✨

We recently lost Jack, I found him dead one morning in his pen 😞 No illness or any change in his condition before hand, I don’t know what the cause was.
He came here with a damaged wing 3 years ago, unable to fly again he stayed here and made an unusual friendship with a disabled wood pigeon. He had the freedom of the garden when I was around and a large pen to sleep in. Some people say if a bird can’t fly it’s cruel to make it live without wings, but Jack was always playing, jumping all over the place and trying to make nests for his wood pigeon partner 😆 I’m sure he wasn’t sad .
Rest in peace Jack, fly high. 🪶🪶🪶🪶🪶

I was called to a ladies house on the next street to mine last week as there was an animal on her decking not moving and covered in flys.
It was a rat with a wound on its side. There were fly eggs on it and it didn’t look like it was going to make it. A few days later and after a good clean up, medications, rest and food on tap mr ratty is looking lots better, and should make a full recovery. 🐀 ✨✨✨

What’s happened to the weather, it’s horrendous rain ☔️ There are a few pigeons ready for release,it definitely isn’t the weather for it plus my car is off the road.

He has a damaged wing but thankfully not broken.
Sparrowhawks hunt by surprise, but frequently crash into windows when pursuing their prey, sometimes with fatal results. I think this may be what this one has done. ✨

1 of them had been with me for 6 months waiting for a badly damaged wing to heal, others had fallen from nests as babies, 🪹 had had very poorly tummies, and had been got by cats.
Freedom at last friends stay safe!! 👋🐦🪶 💛

Wood Mouse, even though alot of people don’t want them in their gardens, they can be beneficial to man by preying on harmful insects, also many trees and shrubs germinate from forgotten wood Mouse food stores. ✨
This one is currently in the incubator and having regular milky feeds.❤️

This was the release of Bloom and Tom they were 2 of the chicks that were found thrown out in a bag on Bloomfield Road . 🪶🪶

Swift Release, It was helpful that we had scaffolding around the back to give some height to the swift, they had rested for a few days filled up on insects and thankfully gained enough strength to get going again 💛✨

Moorhen release, It’s a quick one but a successful rescue and release. 💛

These guys are doing great & the pigeon gang are all good. 💛✨✨

Look at the size of Bubble & Squeak now!! They still sometimes make baby noises but they are doing soo well. 💛

Milly, Luna, Peter, and Brian, release, though they seem to think I’m just taking them for a walk. They all flew off beautifully. 2 Of them had come in grounded because of stomach problems, Peter was the one with the really bad eye infection and Brian had been injured by a cat. ✨ #pigeonrescue #pigeonlife ✨

Not a rescue, but saw this gorgeous little guy on my walk yesterday 🎶🎶

Sadly Kenny Leveret died yesterday, He had had a poorly tummy for a few days before so on advice I held back on his milk and mainly gave him recovery fluid and some medicines. He appeared to be recovering but sadly not enough. It’s always a shame when patients don’t make it but even more so when a few weeks have passed, and you think they are over the worst bit. Hope he’s running and leaping in the big field in the sky. Sorry Lenny 💛
