Yes my dog knows how to walk on a nice loose lead. But I like him having the freedom to walk ahead and go where he wants, sniff what he likes, and if he’s happy… who cares? 💁🏻♀️
He’s not pulling, he’s not trying to be the ‘boss’ of me, he walks faster than I do and is excited to be out on his stroll. I don’t actually want him to be walking at my side constantly always looking at me, I want him to be a dog and do dog things.
Loose lead walking absolutely is a crucial skill for our dogs to have, but it’s also crucial for our dog’s health and wellbeing that they get to enjoy their walks and be a dog. We will always do a few minutes of nice walking & then he gets to go do what he wants! Having balance is key ☯️

Sometimes triggers pop up unexpectedly, and it’s totally okay to redirect your dog in the moment to prevent a reaction.
But here’s the bigger picture: we want to teach our dogs that triggers aren’t scary, so they can feel confident and calm instead of relying on distraction.
It’s about helping them cope, not just avoid. 💪
The goal? A dog who sees the world, even with surprises, as a safe and manageable place. ✨🌎

Shift the perspective: Instead of asking, “How do I stop my dog from doing X?”, ask “Why are they doing X?” 🐾
Understanding the root cause of a behaviour is key to effective training—whether it’s loose lead walking, recall, or behaviour modification.
For example:
🐕 Pulling on the lead? Could it be a lack of training, discomfort, or even pain?
🐕 Reactivity? Are they scared, overwhelmed, is it genetics or are they in pain or over their threshold?
When we focus on why, we can create solutions that address the real issue and support our dogs in the best way possible. Instead of treating symptoms we are addressing the root cause❤️

ITS ALWAYS A BUNCH OF WOMEN…
I’m a VERY lucky girl that I am friends with such amazing trainers and animal professionals. We all share the same love of dogs & wanting to help owners and their dogs live their best lives 🐾 not to mention they’re all damn good at what they do!
There’s nothing wrong with being empathetic, caring, and nurturing. This isn’t to say men can’t be either before y’all jump down my throat. It’s just to highlight some of the amazing women i know 💕💕
This video has been a nightmare to make. I can’t add my own audio because it’s a business account so please ignore my personal handle flying around the screen 😅

Using the environment can be a massive advantage for our dogs. It’s free & fun!
🌳 Confidence. Asking your dog to climb up onto things like logs, benches & walls can really help boost your dog’s confidence. It’s perfect for young or nervous dogs looking to gain some confidence with the world!
👀 Engagement. Interacting with your dog on walks by using your environment will help with your overall engagement. It’s fun & you using lures to guide them up onto things or around things will help keep their focus on you!
🏋️♀️ Coordination & Dexterity. Asking them to walk along a thin wall is great for their coordination & balance.

MY CLEVER SHIBE 🐕
It has taken MONTHS to get him back on the A frame, he jumped off the side and then refused to even look at it. So we have spent a long, long time building up his confidence again with climbing on things out and about, shaping & just making sure good things happen around it.
And finally it’s paid off, last night was the first time he’d gone the whole way over again & we incorporated it into a small course 🥹 so so proud of him as he really is doing amazing and loving his agility.
I’ve left the original audio as the end just makes me smile so much, so lucky to be in the most supportive group where everyone celebrates each other’s wins. As you can hear from the cheers 😂
My wonderful instructor & friend is @crazelpup, she’s your gal for agility. She also brings cake occasionally and will be your biggest hype woman 🥰

I’m sure we’ve all had that unsolicited comment. The comment that makes you grit your teeth and clench your fists… 👀
It also goes without saying I mean ALL breeds can be and should be trained force free… however I’ve had an awful amount of comments like these recently whilst walking my own Shiba & a clients Siberian Husky. There’s a lot of preconceptions about spitz breeds needing to know that YOU ARE THE BOSS/PACK LEADER. I think due to some of them being incredibly ancient breeds and they are incredibly free thinking (stubborn some may say).
To be frank, it’s all a load of b******s.
Spitz breeds are not everyone’s cup of tea, they can be incredibly hard to motivate, if they don’t want to do something they simply won’t do it. No amount of high value treats (and yes I’ve tried them all 🙃), can convince them otherwise. That doesn’t mean being an ‘alpha’ or ‘pack leader’ will motivate them. In fact it will do the complete opposite, yes they may do what you’ve asked but not because they are happy too.
The reason why I am so so passionate about Spitz’s is because they are tricky, they make you work to get them to work, sometimes you work harder than them. You have to be creative and really find what motivates them as an INDIVIDUAL.
But don’t get too cocky once you do find that motivator. What works one day probably won’t the next… speaking from experience 😂
