This photo is why I nearly always use my own leads on your pooches when walking them. Why for some, I use a slip collar as a backup attached to their collar.

If I’m not certain that your dog won’t spook badly at something unexpected, if I’m not certain your dog trusts me enough to come back to me if a lead / collar did break, if I just haven’t known your dog long enough to know their quirks, it is much much safer for me to use gear that I know and trust to keep dogs safe.

As clients you trust me to look after your dog, and safety is always my top priority. Returning your to you unharmed and with four paws and a tail attached always comes first!

✈️ The power of flight 😧

You will often hear dog trainers talk about the emotional and instinctive self preservation responses in dogs - that fight 🥊 or flight ✈️ response (there’s some extra Fs too for the purists)

It’s incredibly hard for us humans to understand it’s all consuming power and how the “thinking 🧠” is completely absent when your dog is in this state. So how about a visual representation?

The force needed to sheer a 250kg rated trigger hook is quite immense, but a dog in flight mode…. No problem!

So if you have a dog who is nervous, prone to those instinctual survival response reactions …. Make sure you are seeking certified and proven help for your dog… and make sure your kit is up to the job!

Greyhounds Going Home is a small independent rehoming center in Co. Durham. They help retired greyhounds from Sunderland and Newcastle find their forever homes.

🐾🎉 Harlequinn Hoopers Roundup 🎉🐾

This weekend we headed over to Barrow-upon-Humber for Harlequinn Hoopers' first ever CHUK show, and it was fantastic!

We had some amazing results:
- Meeko came away with a 1st place and a clear round 🏆
- Leroy came away with two 2nd places 🥈🥈

A great venue and the luxury of camping on site make this a show to remember. Their next show is on 10th and 11th August and is open on Agility Plaza for entries now. Don't miss out!

Happy Birthday to the sweetheart that has an awful lot to answer for! Without Meeko, there would be no Aim Higher, no solo walks, no hoopers classes. 🐾❤️

I can’t wait to see this exhibition! Tripawd pooches really are super-dogs!

The first of the tripawd superdogs is of course the beautiful girl who inspired the project. Roobi! Roobi Kangaroo because she loved to leap and jump. Roobi was a rescue dog who didn't have the best start in life but changed our lives for the better. Roobi lost her front leg due to a bone tumour and showed me that dogs don't worry about having 3 legs. She was always front of the queue to get her lead put on when it was time for a walk and gave her furry brothers a run for their money. Although Roobi is no longer with us she was my inspiration and this project is definitely about celebrating how amazing she was.

Bella 🥰🥺🌈

Another sweetheart set free today, and it doesn’t get any easier saying goodbye to clients!

I’m so glad to have been trusted with this cheeky pup and her older sister. Cancer is cruel and took Bella far too soon; her presence over the last year as part of my day will be very missed!

We had lots of cuddles over the last few weeks and I’ll be back on Monday to cuddle her sister and hopefully bring some normality 🤞

Jo may have been dealt a tough hand, but she spent her final months showing us all that she was still a fighter! She has smashed her Alphabet Hoopers Bronze and Silver awards 🥉

She is by far the most determined dog that I have ever met, and I am so pleased that her amazing mum fought for her and never gave up on her.

🌈 Fly high sweetheart, I hope you have fun terrorising squirrels 💗

Progress is not linear 📈📈 Meeko has been through A LOT in 2023, from a cruciate injury to a GI flare, surgery and now allergies, training has been on the back burner. She has run only one clear round on a training course in the whole year. But this competition course with one fault, feels like everything is finally coming together. I can't ever thank Prince Bishop Veterinary Hospital and Butterwick Animal Rehab Clinic for the hours of work they've put in along side me to get her back to the things she loves. If you've had a bad walk, or a bad training session, always remember it is not over. You will reach your goals. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Meeko and I braved our first hoopers competition yesterday. Our hope was 3 runs with 3 eliminations and ultimately just a lot of exposure for both of us to the environment and learning our way and how things work. Instead we left with 4 runs, 3 were half decent, eliminations in all 4, and a ton of knowledge and a small list of things to work on. What shocked me, is that Meeko is not far off a clear round, I just need to trust her more! I played it safe to make sure she started a run well, but in turn made it harder for us to finish a course. Thank you Tees Valley Dog Training for the fantastic cheerleading all year. If you go down to Dogwood Adventure Play - Dog Walking Fields & Training Centre right now, you really will find a big surprise. There are dinosaurs everywhere! So Gina and I went dino hunting on our walk the other day. Gina is a true distracted and reactive dog, but she is also soo happy and so much more focused than she used to be. All walks I offer are truly personalised to the dog that I'm out with at any given time. Nervous, reactive, excitable, or even those very few perfect dogs, every dog is welcome here.
