✨ 𝗠𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 ✨

Back in 2021, I was desperately searching for something to do with Meeko. Agility wasn’t our thing, and scentwork wasn’t as big as it is now. Then we found hoopers—and we never looked back!

Meeko loved working with me, and I loved working with her. Together, we earned rosettes, built confidence, and finally had a sport that suited us both. That’s when I knew I had to bring hoopers back to Durham and start teaching.

Since then, Aim Higher has grown beyond what I ever imagined! We've hosted fun shows, charity events, and had teams competing across the country—including at the 𝗖𝗛𝗨𝗞 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰.

And now, four years later, I’m setting up 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿! 🎉

It’s been an incredible journey so far, and there’s so much more to come! 🚀

As a dog owner, you are entirely responsible for your dog’s actions—even when they stray. We all know that dogs mustn’t worry livestock, but it’s important to remember that wild animals are also protected by law.

Lately, I’ve seen multiple professional dog walkers posting about their clients’ dogs wandering off for extended periods, some relying on trackers to locate them. What kind of example does this set?

Let’s break it down:
1️⃣ If your dog is out of sight, you have no idea what they’re sniffing, watching, or about to chase.
2️⃣ Allowing your dog to regularly chase animals only reinforces the behaviour—they’ll do it more and more!

It is possible to meet your dog’s daily needs while keeping them safely on a lead. A 20m long line can give them plenty of freedom, but even a 5m one is enough!

Disa has come such a long way in just a few walks, and I couldn’t be more proud of her! 🐾

When we first started, she’d forgotten how to walk on a lead—let alone how to safely navigate the road to the nearest footpath. But here’s the thing: with honesty, teamwork, and a solid plan with her owners, we’ve completely turned things around. 💪

A few solo walks without her sister and some focus on reinforcing the basics have made all the difference. Disa has settled beautifully into her new routine and is now ready to head out on longer adventures *with her sister by her side!* 🐶❤️🐶

Moments like this are exactly why I commit to walks when others might say no—because building lasting bonds and creating positive changes is always worth it. 🌟

Mabel was well on her way to earning the title of naughtiest puppy at Aim Higher—and that’s saying something, especially with Nala as a permanent whirlwind of chaos! 😅

But something has shifted, and she’s turning a corner, revealing the beautiful (and slightly less mischievous) spotty angel beneath. 🐶💛

Puppies and adolescents can be 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸—there’s no way around it. But if you’re in the thick of it, just remember: 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲! Keep going, stay patient, and one day, you’ll look back and see just how far you’ve come. 💪🐾

We’ve had a lot of new followers recently with the introduction of BK9 Hoopers shows to our schedule, so it’s time for a reintroduction! ✨

I’m Maria, the human behind ‘Aim Higher’. I hold a maths degree and previously worked in accountancy until I started Aim Higher in 2021. It didn’t take me long to transfer the problem solving on paper to the problem solving of dog behaviour.

The inspiration behind Aim Higher is my eldest dog, Meeko, who joined our family in 2019. Meeko wasn’t like other dogs in training classes – she had absolutely no interest in food rewards, no matter how ‘high value’ trainers suggested they should be. It simply wasn’t going to work, and none of the typical methods seemed to fit her needs. She was a joy at home, but walking her was a whole different story!

Through research, patience, and a different approach to training, Meeko transformed into an amazing dog. However, I still found that very few people understood her or what she needed. So, I created ‘Aim Higher’ – a place for dogs like Meeko, where we prioritize your dog’s individual needs over fitting into the typical training molds or the latest social media trends.

If your dog doesn’t follow the script, we’re here for you. Welcome to Aim Higher, where every dog can thrive! 🐾
