Anyone who has a puppy I recommend having a puppy induction as soon as you can!
The first groom can become fearful if not accustomed to the feel/sight/sounds etc of the groom.
In this video you get a snippet into how I do my inductions but it’s not just a quick induction (like the video) it’s actually a 20-30 minute induction and some puppies need more than one induction to feel comfortable!!
Having a puppy that needs grooming isn’t as easy as saying I need my puppy grooming! It’s about building a bond between you and the dog, building the trust between you both, showing that grooming is noisy at times but it’s a pleasant experience, praising/rewarding/bribing the dog works well too but most of all it’s PATIENCE!!
A lot of groomers and salons don’t offer this service and then they wonder why the dog becomes “aggressive”, anxious, nervous and/or fidgety! They simply want a puppy to come in and stand on the table and not to move! This isn’t real life!
Some people/groomers disagree with my method but all I will say is this;
“who is it that gets a message or a call from the owners of a puppy/young dog that has become “aggressive” and gets banned from your salon?”
Answer; ME!!
Carry on doing what your doing but I will give ANY dog of ANY age the time that they deserve even if it is all day!! My time is precious as well BUT all dogs deserve the same treatment, respect and groom as the dogs that stand still and ‘enjoy’ the grooming process!! 🥰🐾💕 ###
