Gossip, The deadliest disease on the Planet,
Telling the Truth won't always make you friends.
But it will make you the best ones.
Should You believe everything? People say,
or should you examine the reasoning behind their statement?
One day a local MP was visiting the farm. ["So we know this is a story."]
MP said: "Do you know what I just heard about your friend and neighbour"?
Farmer said,
Ok, not a problem, I'll listen, but only if you agree to wait a moment before you tell me,
So we can examine the Farmers' Bull-S**t filter theory?
The MP immediately asked,
The Bull-S**t theory?
Yes, the theory of the three sieves.
It goes like this.
Before saying something about others,
it is good to take the time to filter what you want to say.
The first sieve is about Truth.
Have you verified that what you are going to tell me is true?
"No, I only heard about it."
Ok. So you don't know if it's true.
Next, Let's try the second sieve, "kindness."
Is it something good you want to tell me about, my friend?
"Oh no, on the contrary!"
So you want to tell me bad things about him, and you don't even know if they're true.
But wait, Maybe you can still pass the test.
Let's focus on the third sieve, "utility."
Does it help me by knowing what my friend would have, could have, or should have done, even if we haven't established if they are true or not?
"Not really."
So,
What you want to tell me is neither accurate, reasonable, nor valuable.
Can you see?
The lesson we learn from the Farmers' Bull-S**t filter theory.
Let Truth pick your friends.
And leave Bull S**t to John Deere to spread.
And MPs don't really visit Farms.
