✨SPACE TAKEN ✨
Dog reactivity client needed! 🐾

As part of my current training mentorship, I am looking for a dog owner who is struggling with their dog’s reactivity. This can be towards anything from cars to other dogs. (No dogs with severe human aggression or a bite history)

This training will be completely free✨
I am looking for someone who is:
- happy to be filmed/recorded as part of a case study to show their progress
- Willing to be committed to work with me to solve the reactivity
- Based between Ongar and Chelmsford

Please feel free to contact me if you’re interested or would like more information. There will be other opportunities for free/discounted training sessions. 🐾

Yesterday Nelly competed in her first Hoopers competition.
It was a first experience for both of us, and I’m so proud of how she did!
We did 5 Runs, 2 with 5 faults, 1 E (there were gunshots going off during part of the day, which stressed her out, they were so quiet initially I couldn’t work out what was wrong, after this we sat and I had time to do a bit of counter conditioning with her), then we got a Clear round and a 2nd!!!
To be 10 years old and doing the sport for just under a year I think she was fantastic! 🐾

Since starting Nelly&Co I’ve built up a little more of a following and thought it would be nice to reintroduce myself!
My names Robyn, I’m 23 and my passion is for telling and showing people how amazing dogs can be.
I currently offer dog walking, training walks and 1-2-1 training for leash walking, recall, etc.

I still live at home, and my other hobbies not involving dogs include golf (a new one!), Reading (fantasy mainly!) and eating or making cake 😂!

Nelly’s my first dog and only dog at the moment, honestly not sure what breed I’d love next!

I’m continuing to learn more and more everyday and want to be able to educate everyone on how beneficial training is for our dogs and the fantastic things you can achieve with them (even if it’s just to have a well behaved dog!)

Tula the office dog (not me forgetting to take a picture, so was sent this cute one!)

We a had a 1-2-1 session today, working on Recall, dealing with counter surfing and how to get her to relax in the office space.
She was shattered by the end!

Yesterday I turned 23 and throughout the day had a long reflection on how far I’ve come and where I really want to take my career.

Just before going full time with Nelly&Co, I was bitten whilst working at a boarding kennels. It was just one of those things that you couldn’t have known would happen. Knowing what I knew I could break down the situation and work out what happened, but that didn’t change the fact it knocked my confidence with dogs and people too. I got off lightly in my opinion, seeing as the dog was a Mali. However the scars are still there and still reminds me.

I honestly felt embarrassed to share this for a long time. I didn’t want to accept the fact it did make me nervous of dogs. I did a bit of therapy not long after it happened, but it didn’t help at all. Instead I left my job at the kennels and took Nelly&Co full time. I’ve made A LOT of progress, and super grateful to some of my client dogs that have helped me build my confidence back up, but I still sometimes get that panic set in.

So, when it comes to work, I don’t go above my ego and would never take on a job I wasn’t comfortable with, and know now that doesn’t make me any less of a trainer.

I’m still unsure what I want to do. I’m super interested in detection and agility. I’d even like to try a bite sport at some point. For now I’m just going to keep learning, developing my skills and building my confidence.

This post is mainly for myself but I hope it can resonate with others, that just because you might not be where you want to be yet doesn’t make you not good enough right now 🩶

•The picture was me a few months after meeting a Mali, his name was Hannibal 😂

Introducing the slip lead and pressure to Mabel.

It’s nothing fancy but having a dog that understands leash pressure makes walking so much easier. Some of my walking clients I only see once a week, so the one thing I aim for is them to understand that putting pressure on the leash gets them nowhere, I don’t expect perfect heel work, but stay close to me and don’t drag me!

This year I want to push myself, learn more, try more and keep building my knowledge and skills as a trainer.

To be honest I’m not a confident person. I avoid posting videos of me talking, even on stories. I worry about other peoples opinions too often. I avoid speaking out even when it could benefit me and others. Just to name a few things.

This year, I want to change that. My goal is to start pushing myself further, setting challenges. Asking questions and asking for help. Pushing my boundaries in everyday life. Building my confidence and to stop worrying what other people think!

2024 is gonna be that year 🐾🙌🏻

✨ My Dog Training Opinions ✨

Everyone has different takes on Dog training but these are things I personally believe in my training.

1. Motivation First

If there’s nothing to motivate your dog with, you can’t teach behaviours. Motivation should always be worked on first. Most of the time this is conditioning a positive reinforcement marker, which is simple for many dogs, however for some this might require more work.

2. Teaching puppies Obedience is a waste of time

Cool your puppy can sit indoors, but it’s got zero interest in you, is scared of random objects and you have little value to them. What you should be focusing on with puppies is confidence, boundaries and building value in you, through play and hand feeding. The formal stuff can come later.

3. Dog training is different for everyone, don’t judge, Learn.

A point I remind myself of regularly. Just because you don’t do it that way or it doesn’t work for you, doesn’t mean it’s not working for someone else. I always want to understand why someone’s training the way they are and if I can learn from that or even offer advice.
If you don’t like the way someone trains and you’re only going to judge, move along 🚶🏻‍♀️.

4. Giving your dog time to be a dog is just as important as training.

Just like us Dog’s need time off, or just a chance to do something they enjoy!

5. Training should be enjoyable for Dog and Owner

Yes, training can be stressful and hard work, but if there’s constant stress and both dog and owner aren’t enjoying the process, we need to step back and see what needs to be done.

Wally is an 8 month old Cane Corso, he’s an absolute dream, super chilled but a little bit unsure and aloof (genetics play a part) about some things. I’m helping to continue his confidence building, environmental’s and basics.
