Do the decent thing.

Hand it in to a vet.

If it's not chipped or missing, you can claim it as yours after showing due diligence was made to find an owner.

You have absolutely no idea of the pain & heartbreak that owners of missing pets go through 💔

Who remembers Saffi and Sammy?

Sammy was incredibly friendly and extremely affectionate.

Saffi was nervous and very shy.

But their bond was like no other....utterly connected in such a strong way.

Would anyone adopt such a pair of cats?

Absolutely.

The most marvellous home opened its door and welcomed them in....

And now they're just the happiest of cats 💖 🏡🐾

Covered in fleas & ticks.

Was unapproachable but now very happy to be fed & watered!

Not much sickens me, I usually just take a deep breath and crack on.

But this beautiful girl....💔

I haven't been able to post on here until now as I don't quite know what to say.

She was handed in to a vets north of Luton, and I couldn't not help when an appeal for help went out to take in and help her and her babies.

It's believed she has severe mastitis, breaking down her skin.

Sadly, our vets suspect it's something much more ominous 😔

She's booked in for a biopsy and swabs tomorrow, in the hope of finding out what, if anything, we can do to save her.

Yes we're full.

But we'll always find somewhere in an emergency....

This is what differentiates us from 'big rescues'.
We don't just set aside 'x' amount of pens and when they're full, we're full.

We juggle, we shift, we move.

I now have Ashleigh Whiteman's kittens & mum, and she's taking on this mum & kittens, as they need hand-rearing.

We're going to keep them together as much as possible.

With your help, we'll do everything possible to save her and give her the life she so very much deserves 💔

Thank goodness for Facebook 'memories' or I'd have forgotten!

4 years ago today we launched Hector's House Cat Rescue.

To date, 2257 cats & kittens have passed through our doors, the vast majority of which were unneutered long-term stray cats.

This is slightly more than the 5 a month I anticipated......

In early summer of last year, we weren't sure of our future.
The need for our rescue spiralled, our costs spiralled, our exhaustion spiralled.

I was even sat down by my immediate family for an 'intervention' 🙄

But thanks to the legacy of one special lady & the interest-free loan of another, our decision to 'go big or go bust' was made for us.

A year on, and here we are:

A fabulous new centre;
A beautiful, well-run shop;
An incredible fundraising team;
Fosterers of the highest calibre;
The best volunteers you could wish for;
1 full-time member of staff and 2 part-time members; Acquiring knowledge & skills from Battersea Academy and International Cat Care;
And the continued education to explain the importance of neutering and cat welfare.

The situation in this country regarding cat welfare is worse than it's ever been.
We're needed more than ever before.
YOU'RE needed more than ever before.
Whether it's a monthly Standing Order (our preference), food & treats donations, fundraisers, or all of these, we need you.
When donating to ANY animal charity, please look up their accounts on the Charity Commission website.
Compare income v Veterinary costs.
That alone will tell you how much they need your money. Or not.
We don't have any 'big' plans for the next 2 years.
Our aim is to continue to hone our skills and expertise, increase our knowledge, and quite frankly, for me, recover from the last 4 years.

Thank you to everyone, past, present and future, who has supported us to help these cats.

To our volunteers:
YOU are the most important part of this rescue.
Your continued selflessness, turning up in all weathers, dealing with the sickest cats, from the worst situations imaginable, is to be highly commended.

It takes a village to build a rescue, and every last person reading this is part of our village.

The Cat Group is a collection of professional organisations dedicated to feline welfare through joint campaigns and collaborative research, making expert recommendations on the care and keeping of all cats.

The Cat Group is very concerned about the breeding and promotion of so-called ‘Bully’ or ‘Dwelf’ cats.
We are completely opposed to the breeding of cats with extreme physical characteristics that negatively impact on their welfare and quality of life.

‘Bully’ and ‘Dwelf’ cats suffer from physical deformities, including hairlessness and distorted limbs, among other defects. Breeding for deformity is unethical and causes unacceptable pain and suffering. These defects, particularly limb deformities (short, bowed legs) and abnormal joints are painful and restrict mobility, thus preventing these cats from carrying out normal behaviours essential for their welfare and their ability to live a good quality of life.

The Cat Group strongly urges breeders to cease breeding ‘Bully’ or ‘Dwelf’ cats. These cats should not be promoted in any way, for example through social media, or by their presence at cat shows.

We ask the public not to buy these cats under any circumstances; doing so is irresponsible as it promotes popularity and leads to more cats with these issues being born to suffer.

Update: Sadly this is NOT Chesney 😔

Handed in to our vets this morning, having been 'straying' in the Roberts Close area of Watcombe, Torquay, for some time.

This boy will be transferred in to our care later today, and held for 7 days before medical care is given and the rehoming process begins.
