Oh for flock sake, not another aborting ewe!

Enzootic abortion (EAE) is one of the common causes of abortion in ewes in the UK. Typically, you will see aborting ewes with rusty brown discharge, reddened placenta and small weakly / dead lambs, but the ewe tends to remain well within herself.

The bacteria that causes EAE lies dormant in latently infected animals until the next lambing season, when it reactivates and causes abortion. We are offering free blood testing diagnostics, to see whether your flock is infected. A vaccine can then be used to protect your sheep. Vaccination is a ‘long-ball game’ to decrease abortion in your flock, reducing lamb losses, barren and abortion rates.
Did you have a barren rate of more than 3%? If so, you should consider getting some barren ewes blood sampled.

Visit www.enzooticabortion.co.uk or contact the office to book in blood sampling your barren / aborted ewes.
