According to BBC News blue green algae has now been red flagged in beaches in the north coast 😫

Potentially toxic blue-green algae has been found at Portstewart and Castlerock beaches.

I am unfortunately not able to book in any large or heavy dogs until I return after maternity. Reaching into the bath is proving to be more difficult 🤦‍♀️
I have contacted anyone that this relates to that may have been a block booking.

I am still taking bookings for small dogs. I will communicate my last working date as soon as i know (hoping to know more by the end of next week).

Again I have had some amazing groomers offer their services. I am more than happy to pass these details on to anyone who may need a groomer when I am off.

Be aware everyone ☹️

Following tests carried out yesterday, Tuesday 6 June, Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) has confirmed a presence of blue-green algae at Ballyronan Marina and Battery Harbour.

It is advised that all contact with the water is avoided until further notice. Farmers and pet owners should also ensure that their animals do not have access to this water, as the algae can produce toxins that are highly poisonous and often fatal to pets.

The Council has erected signage warning the public of the presence of the algae at these sites and advise that dogs are kept on leads at all times.

Worth a read! I would keep your pet out of the lough all together.

Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) has confirmed a presence of blue-green algae and Hemlock Water Dropwort in Lough Neagh ⬇️

NIEA were alerted on Friday 19 May 2023 to a report of the death of a dog that had been in the water at Lough Neagh.

NIEA carried out a number of tests over a few days to investigate if there was evidence of an algal bloom in the water. No visual evidence of an algal bloom, dead fish or any other signs of water pollution including sewage were detected at that time.

As a precautionary measure a water sample was taken for algal analyses. No blue green algae were found in the water sample analysed by NIEA.

Further samples were collected along the shore at Rea’s wood on 23 May 2023 and analysis has confirmed the presence of an algae called Microcystis sp. in small amounts washed up on the shore. Microcystis sp., is a blue green algae which can produce toxins that are highly poisonous and often fatal to pets.

In addition, a large amount of the toxic but fairly common plant Hemlock Water Dropwort (Oenanthe crocata) was observed growing in the wooded area along Rea’s Wood.

Hemlock water dropwort (poison parsnip) is perhaps the most poisonous indigenous plant in Britain and Ireland. This is a native plant, not an invasive species, and it grows mostly in wet meadows along river courses and adjacent to lakes. It is highly toxic to humans and domesticated animals if ingested - although the roots are more toxic than the above-ground parts.

Dog Owners should always be aware of the dangers posed by all poisonous plants and algae growing in the environment, but especially along riverbanks and in wet grassland or edges of lakes.

The Council has erected signage warning the public of the presence of blue-green algae and Hemlock Water Dropwort in the area and advising that dogs are kept on a lead at all times.

Hi everyone,

Sorry I have been pretty quiet on here at the moment, I have just been so busy.

I have had alot of messages/calls from new clients looking booked in but unfortunately my books are maxed out and I just don't have space for any new clients at the moment.

If any of my current clients would like booked in just give me a shout. I will be working through to August, all being well. I do also attend to only take a short time off from the salon once baby arrives. I will keep you all up to date. I will also provide details for another groomer if its required for when I am off. I have had a few amazing groomers offer their services to help keep your pups maintained when I am off.

I had the best day at Ni Grooming Challenge. I only entered one class for this one as I wasn't sure my feet would last all day. 🙈🤰

Marley is the best dog to work with even though he is a fidget, we came 🥇First in the salon creative ☺️.
