‼️ UPDATE - We believe a suitable foster placement has been found for Tsuki. Thank you to everyone who shared and helped spread the word. We will update if/when we can.‼️

We have been asked to assist in seeking a U.K. based foster carer to care for a Kishu Ken on a temporary basis, as her owner has been forced to move into temporary accommodation. This will be a private arrangement between the owner and the fosterer (the ANK will provide advice and a point of contact if needed).

Tsuki is a three year old, female, entire Kishu Ken, and will remain the original owners pet. Tsuki’s owner is not looking to rehome her, however they are unable to keep her currently due to difficult, unforeseen circumstances. Tsuki is entire and will remain so, she is not to be spayed. She is an import from America, and a friendly girl who is good with children over 10 years of age, and can live with cats under careful introduction. She is good with other dogs.

Tsuki is up to date on vaccines, flea and worming treatments, and her season is due in August. Her owner will remain financially responsible for her care while Tsuki is in foster, and a contract between owner and fosterer will be put in place.

Knowledge of primitive breeds, and awareness of the Kishu Ken temperament is essential to ensure she is placed with the right foster carer. She is not to be let off lead unless in an enclosed area.

Ideally her owner would prefer somebody to foster her in the Norfolk/Suffolk area but if the ideal person is further afield this is also ok. This foster placement will be a minimum term of four weeks, however it may last as long as 5 – 6 months depending on the owner’s changing circumstances. It is preferred that Tsuki remain with one fosterer through her entire foster term to minimise stress.

If you are interested in fostering this beautiful girl or learning more about her, please get in touch and we will put you in contact with the owner.

Some of the Japanese dogs we've seen today (and a few American cousins too 😉 plus one honorary Nihon Ken Irish Setter baby who both Chuuya and Uzume were smitten with).

Back for day 2 tomorrow, but it's looking like the weather will not be with us 😭

Day one at All About Dogs Show at Hylands. It's squishy down here but we're doing our best with tarps and mud control.

What are those leashes? If you see a Kishu Ken in the ring in the USA, you may see them shown on the traditional style of show leash. These leads are widely used in Japan, often made of silky braid, and include a tassel at the end. These leads are colored to compliment the color of the dog.

The National Kishu Ken Club advocates for education and emulation of the parent culture here in the USA - that is to say we want to bring the show and breed culture set by our enthusiast and breeder peers in Japan to the AKC. Thus, many exhibitors will opt to show on these leashes so when our friends in Japan see our conformation photos and dogs being shown in the USA, they see things familiar to them.

This is a nod of respect to tell our friends that we care about how they present their dogs and would like to do the same. In a rare breed good relations are monumentally important and can be built with the smallest gestures.

Plus, they're very nice to hold for a long day or weekend of shows.
