Cats Protection Stoke & Newcastle Branch Cats Protection Stoke & Newcastle are responsible for the rehoming of cats in the local area. We promote cat welfare, and rehome and reunite cats and kittens.
(10)

We are the local branch (Stoke and Newcastle) of the national Cats Protection charity. We also provide advice and education on responsible cat ownership and run a neutering voucher service (to help with the cost if you are on a low income, to ensure cats are neutered without causing financial difficulty). In addition to this, we help out with colonies of feral cats by rehoming where possible or by

neutering to keep a colony stable and healthy. All the money that we receive goes towards the work that we do locally. We are run entirely by volunteers, and every single volunteer is unpaid. For information on neutering, microchipping and vaccinations, please visit our website: http://www.cats.org.uk/stoke

Tilly's story
Thankyou to everyone who donated from our Amazon wishlist to support Tilly and her kittens! The amount of milk we received fed Tilly's kittens for nearly 6 weeks!

Tilly had a tough start here with us at Cats Protection Stoke and Newcastle branch, she was heavily pregnant and eventually gave birth to 6 kittens.
She had retained 4 placentas and ended up needing an emergency spay, due to this her kittens needed to be handreared while she was taking pain killers with the hope that in 3 days she would take back over again.
Her wound became infected and she needed a course of antibiotics which meant her kittens still couldn't be fed by her for another 7 days. Two days after starting the antibiotics her wound reopened due to the infection and she needed another emergency surgery to flush out the infection and stitch her back up.
Tilly was very poorly and we were quite worried about her, prior to the second surgery she had stayed with her kittens although not feeding them, but it was decided she needed time to recover and look after herself!
Ten days after her surgery she was back to being her happy, playful and cheeky self so we reintroduced her to her kittens, and although she no longer had enough milk to feed them she took them straight back on and thankfully cleaned and toileted them for her fosterer!
Unfortunately at 5 weeks old one of her kittens, Peppermint, started fading and passed away ๐Ÿ’” Handrear kittens are at high risk of fading kitten syndrome which is why we don't reserve kittens under 8 weeks old, when the are fully weaned and hopefully at less risk ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿฝ
Earl, Peach, Chai, Tetley and Matcha are all doing well โค๏ธ

A few people have asked how Tilly and her Kittens are getting on, we were very grateful for everyone who read her story and we're able to donate kitten milk, we received 14 tubs. So far the kittens have made their way through 8 tubs!

Tilly has had a tough few weeks, she came to us very heavily pregnant and within two weeks gave birth to 6 healthy kittens, unfortunately she retained four placentas so we headed to the vets the next morning to get her checked. They managed to help her have two of the four placentas with oxytocin but still needed two more to be removed via emergency spay.

As Tilly was on pain medication she temporarily couldn't feed her kittens meaning we started bottle feeding them at not even 24 hours old. Her wound then became infected so she started a course of antibiotics, meaning another week of not being able to feed her kittens.

We were hoping that her bad luck would stop there but two days later the infection ruptured and she needed another emergency surgery to flush out the infection and close her back up. Tilly was very poorly and we were quite worried about her, prior to the second surgery she had stayed with her kittens although not feeding them, but it was decided she needed time to recover and look after herself!

Ten days after her surgery she was back to being her happy, playful and cheeky self so we reintroduced her to her kittens, and although she no longer had enough milk to feed them she took them straight back on and thankfully cleans and toilets them for their fosterer!

Her kittens; Earl, Peach, Chai, Tetley, Matcha and Peppermint are now 3.5 weeks old and keeping their fosterer very busy! Peppermint is starting to wean and is enjoying kitten mousse & Peach uses the litter tray almost every time. Chai has already mastered climbing her fosterers leg when she's done waiting for her milk to warm up!

Meet Tilly and her 6 kittens Earl, Peach, Chai, Tetley, Matcha and Peppermint ๐Ÿพ They were born on Mother's day and are now 5 days old. Unfortunately Tilly's birth didn't go to plan, she retained multiple placentas and needed to have an emergency spay to prevent her getting sick. Due to this her kittens needed to be handreared until she was ok to come off the painkillers. She had her post op check on Thursday where it was confirmed she now has an infection in the spay wound ๐Ÿฅบ More painkillers and now antibiotics means her kittens still can't feed and it's very possible she will lose her milk before she finishes her antibiotics. As you can imagine, 6 kittens bottle feeding every two hours, we are getting through a lot of kitten milk!
We have the kitten milk we use on our wishlist if anyone is able to donate some we would be very grateful ๐Ÿฅฐ
