Who has taught their dog ‘place’?
Who has it totally fool proof?
In every situation?
No?
Here’s why not.
The focus is on your poodle getting on the bed.
But when we only focus on the ‘getting on the bed’, your poodle has achieved it.
Done.
So what happens next?
They get off.
They get bored and they get off.
Because they did the job in the first place.
You told them to get on,
and they did.
But you didn’t tell them when to get OFF!
And that’s why ‘place’ isn’t fool proof.
I’ll be teaching this in the brand new masterclasses released on Black Friday.

Somethings missing in the dog training world.
It’s often there for the rescues, for the close knit park go-ers.
But not in training.
In training, it’s reserved for those in high places.
That know the right people.
While the rest of us are left out.
Or sometimes it’s “there” but when you really think about it, it’s dog eat dog.
What’s missing?
Community.
I broke the mould with this one.
My membership and group programmes may be about training but at the heart of it is community.
Real support, not just words.
From me.
But also from other members.
And that’s what really makes the difference.
When other members care for each other, look out for each other, encourage each other.
We create our own little family.
That’s when you train better.
Because it’s no longer just you.
Suddenly you’ve got all these people behind you, even when you live in different continents.
It’s quite something!
I may be a poodle trainer but I will always be about more than just training!

Have you wondered why your training isn’t getting real life results.
Like they can do it in the training class or a certain situation.
But take them somewhere new and they’re back to pulling. To ignoring you. To running off.
Here’s why…
Dogs are terrible at generalising (except for the things we don’t want them to generalise).
So when you teach them a behaviour (a sit, a down etc), they need to learn this and be rewarded in many different situations.
Which you can do.
But it’s tedious and your list will be as long as your arm!
And that is why you are not getting real life results.
But…
what if I told you…
there is another way…
Behaviours rely on US having to tell the dog what to do.
But when we play games, their brain changes. It reshapes. Becoming stronger with the new information. New information which encourages good choices.
And you guessed it. It means they can apply that to different situations.
Who wants that?
This Black Friday, I am releasing live training that will teach you these exact games.
With a focus on crazy/hyper/full on poodles, loose lead walking and recall.
There’s something for everyone.

3 reasons your poodle is jumping up:
Your hands have value, that’s where the food comes from. To get to your hands, they need to jump up.
Jumping up has been reinforced. Even a ‘get off’, gives them what they want and so they do it again and again.
Their arousal levels are too high and they’re not able to control themselves, make good choices or listen in that moment.
What can you do?
Show them what you DO want them to do. That could be a sit, a down, impulse control, go to bed.
Think what you do want, get what you need to do it (food) and be consistent.
What would you rather your poodle did instead of jumping up?

Why has no one told us that there is so much more to focus than eye contact.
So many people are obsessed with having their dog have eye contact with them.
But why?
When majority of people can’t give it or maintain it.
Why do we want it from our dogs? 🤔
Once you’ve taught eye contact, you have to ASK for it?
Wouldn’t it be better to teach our poodles to CHOOSE to check in with us?
Once you’ve taught eye contact, YOU have to look at your dog.
What if you can’t because you’re having a conversation with someone, but you still need your poodle to focus on you?
Once you’ve taught eye contact, they learn to listen when they are NEAR you.
So does that mean they can IGNORE you when you’re not asking for eye contact?
You can see why I don’t teach it anymore.
I actually prefer to teach focus, that applies to all situations and puts the emphasis on the dog focusing on you, not YOU ASKING for it.
Who’d like that?

Who online training is really for…
You’d think the answer would be anyone!
It’s not for:
🚫people with no internet
🚫people who do not training to be a success
🚫people who would rather use a trainer they are NOT aligned with
🚫people who do no research and just go with the localist, cheapest trainer.
For online training to work, you need to:
❤️be open to researching who is best for you. This can include their ethics, type of training and online offer.
❤️have a feel for the trainer. Check out their page, do you feel a connection? Do they talk to you? Hint: when they do, you’re more likely to turn up and do the training.
❤️have access to the internet and a camera (on the phone or laptop)
❤️ WANT to train your dog. Just signing up, isn’t going to cause a magic wand to wave and fix your problems (I wish!)
And really that’s it. If you can do those 4, online training will be a success for you.
Are you open to it?

Myth - online training doesn’t work.
Let’s just take a minute to debunk this.
For so long, online training has been seen as inferior to in person training but it just isn’t true.
Here’s why…
1.The world adapted to being online in 2020 and now, almost 5 years later, we’ve never been more suited to online learning. It’s enabled me to teach people from all around the globe.
2.Just because you have a trainer local to you, does not mean they are the right fit for you. I always encourage people to research the trainer. Find out where they’ve studied, IF they have studied. Ask about their ethics and what kind of training they use. For some, there are only trainers who they are not aligned with locally, and rather than go against their intuition, online training allows them to find a trainer they are fully aligned with. This not only saves money but also your time and effort. Plus when you fully believe in something, you’ll commit, no matter where in the world it is held.
3.For most dogs (and breeds), having someone come into your home, or going to a new place to learn is either daunting or super excited. Neither of which place your dog in a position to learn. Which means for a portion of the session is lost. Being online irradiates this and your poodle is ready to train and learn straight away.
And a bonus reason for you…
Finding a trainer that understands the poodle breed is rare. I am the only one that has niched into this breed. And poodles are complicated. They aren’t like any other breed and this means they are misunderstood. Especially here in the UK where there aren’t many of them. When they are misunderstood, they are labelled as stubborn, naughty, bad. And you’re left questioning what you have done wrong!
When really you haven’t done anything wrong.
You just haven’t found the right trainer.
So don’t be afraid to give online a go. Especially when it is live online, which adds in accountability and support (because we all
Can we talk about rest days? It’s often a forgotten thing in the dog world.Like dogs are suppose to be worked every single day.No exceptions. And let’s face it, poodles are working dogs.So of course they should be worked/exercised for ages every day.But what if I told you that this could be making your poodle’s behaviour worse?Would you listen?I hope so!You see, every moment of every day, our poodles are exposed to good and bad things. And these things all add up.Which means their capacity gets pretty full, pretty quickly. Which then causes behaviour to escalate. The answer?Give your poodle a rest day.Oh and YOU too! (when did you last have one?)Get them licking, sniffing and chewing.Play some training games, chill out and rest. They’ll thank you for it.And you’ll enjoy it too!If you’re unsure how to get them to chill out on the rest day, comment ‘calm’ and I’ll share my calmness ebook with you.. #poodle #poodlelove #poodlepuppy #poodlelife #poodlegram #toypoodle #standardpoodle #minipoodle #dogtrainingtips #dogtrainingadvice
So it’s been a whole week since I became a full time business owner, a full time poodle trainer.
And it’s been a week of reflections and forward planning, with a couple of migraines thrown in for good measure!
You see 2 years ago when I started The Poodle Training School, I wasn’t brave. I was influenced by what others’ were doing. I looked at how I could apply what they were doing to my business.
I wanted to go big, but I also wanted the comfort, the safety of remaining small.
And not standing out from the crowd.
I guess because this was more of a hobby and if it became successful, it wouldn’t be a hobby anymore and things would change.
Well things changed anyway!
And here I am.
Last Friday, I mad a commitment to myself to not settle, not stay small, to go BIG, to think outside of the box and be the best I can be for every poodle around.
Which made me think about my offers.
The Training School is an amazing place but it is evolving.
And it’s been this last week that I have realised what that evolution truly means.
It’s not going to be the same as other training memberships.
I’m taking it into uncharted waters.
Into something that hasn’t been offered for dog training unless you go 1 to 1, but even then, that isn’t close to what I’m offering.
I can’t really say much more, because I want to share with my members first.
But let’s just say…
it may be online, but it is every part of real time, real life and the real world. 💪
In fact, it’s better than my original in person 1 to 1 offer 😱
So if you want to know more, sign up to the wait list.
Because I can guarantee you WILL want to be apart of the evolution!
And if you’re not, why not!?
Because this is set to make 2025 EPIC!

With 2025 fast approaching, I do wonder why dog training methods from the 60s are still be encouraged.I see so many groups where debunked methods are being encouraged and actively used.Yet technology and knowledge have grown rapidly and continue to evolve. But dog training…. no, we’re stuck in the dark ages! This is what makes my The Poodle Training School different. And I need to start shouting about it from the roof tops!Forget the traditional training of your the alpha and stick a prong on to correct, in this day and age, it’s all about utilising the dog’s brain. In our case, the poodle brain, which is totally fascinating compared to other breeds, but that’s a post for another day! When we teach our poodles how to actively make their own choices, good choices, we empower them. We give them the ownership on their lives. They quite literally live their best life.Because we’re not having to moan at them or dictate their every move. We don’t have to limit everything (ok, at the beginning we might, but that's part of the process). We can TRUST!Our poodle’s truly TRUST us!And it’s magical! You unleash a whole new level of life with a poodle. So as we close 2024 and begin to look towards 2025, think, what will you be embracing? Will it be training your poodle’s brain?Who’s ready to make the leap?(I promise it’s not as scary as that sounds!) #poodleexpert #poodle #toypoodle #minipoodle#standard #standardpoodle #poodlelife #dogtraininglife #dogtrainingadvice
here’s this unspoken belief that training a dog should be easy!
And that really, anyone can do it.
And if you can’t, well then you’re the failure.
But imagine trying to do that when your body says no.
Many people live with hidden disabilities. Disabilities which make it difficult to do life.
Let alone train a dog.
But there is a way…
Firstly, I scrap teaching behaviours. Why? Because they’re so rigid in how to do them. Now I do have a range of ways to teach a sit or a down, but it’s just not necessary to be the first thing to focus on.
Instead, I teach games. Training games are easy to adapt, whether it’s standing, sitting, or playing from your bed. You can think outside the box.
Here’s my strategy for planning a training session:
(notice it is just a training session. Not a session for a specific disability, or for the neurodiverse, because this is true inclusivity)
1. Figure out what the dog needs to work on? This is where the concepts come in. Does the dog need to check in naturally, do they need to learn to ignore, do they need to learn to hang round you? Once we have the concepts.
2. Now we have the concepts, we pick the games that work. But not just any games, we pick the games that suit you. Not able to run? No problem, let’s pick the games where you are stationary.
3. Once we have the games, we adapt further. This is where your individual needs really count. Do you need to sit? Then let’s incorporate a chair. Whatever/ wherever you need to be, we can do that!
So let’s take the game middle. It teaches your poodle value in being close, that you are a safe space, grows togetherness and builds confidence and focus.
But you can’t do it standing… no problem, let’s teach it with you sitting on a chair and your poodle can come through the chair into middle.
Only have the sofa? Teach your poodle to go between your legs and the sofa.
If you have limited leg movement, then we adapt middle into side. So they come close to your side instead
3 reasons your poodle can’t chill out!
The more they do, the more they will keep doing. Think of an overtired toddle; they just keep on going and going and going. They don’t give into the need to sleep.
You take them for extra walks but that just gets them fitter, making it harder to tire them out. Then you have to increase the walk again and do you really have time for that in your busy life?
You’re not rewarding the calm moments. You are rewarding the crazy, hyper, full on moments. How? By telling them ‘no’, ‘get off’, ‘get down’, ‘stop’, by pushing them away or staring at them to stop… all of those are really rewarding. You know what that means? They keep on doing it!
❤️ If you would like more calm?
