I've seen many posts which state dogs in stray kennels have been "dumped" by their owners and how awful these owners are. While this is true in some cases, it's not true of all cases. Many dogs who find themselves in stray kennels have escaped their homes, slipped their collars or have been stolen and then dumped. Previously I mentioned how these kennels charge owners to have their pets returned, when they give the dogs to rescues for free. While this is correct I have now been told the reasons behind it. The local authority sets the statutory fee which has to be paid on collection of the dog. The kennels charge for the time the dog is in their care, this covers cleaning, feeding, care etc just like if you were boarding your dog. The reason the kennels can give to rescues for free is because after the dog has been with the kennels for 8 clear days, the local authority will then pay the statutory fee. I have been told that if the dog warden picks up your dog and brings them straight back home, this statutory fee is still payable by the owners. My previous post was not aimed at the stray kennels who do fantastic work and I am sorry if any offence was caused. There are many great kennels all over the UK taking care of lost pets and these deserve our support. Owners do need to do their part in keeping their pets safe. Microchip and update your details when needed, name tag, again keep details updated and now there is Smart Snout LTD the app which uses your dogs nose like a human finger print as no two are the same. Make sure you do your part to keep your pets safe. https://services2.pawsunite.co.uk/ is a section for lost and missing dogs. We are working together with many people to try and make this part of the platform a place for all to come to for missing, found, lost, stolen dogs. Everyone needs to be working from the same page. Stray kennels, dog wardens etc need to be advertising here so owners can look and see where in the country their pet has been found. If there is one main area to look, hopefully more pets will be reunited quickly. I hope you all sign up today and start adding dogs to the platform after all it's FREE! RESCUES - Advertise your pets who are needing forever homes and it won't cost you a single penny! More people will hopefully see your pets because on our platform potential adopters can search using Keywords such as Age, Breed, Colour etc. So please make sure when you sign up that you put as much detail about each pet as you can in the description, this way if someone is looking for a black dog, all black dogs on our platform will be shown to them and then they can approach the rescue who has the dog they would like to know more about.
FOSTERS- Anyone willing to offer a pet a temporary home please sign up so that all rescues can approach you to ask for your help. Fosters are a vital part of rescue and we need you! (please don't put your full address into the ad section, the Town, City or County is enough. We want to keep you all safe).
PET FOOD BANKS - Where ever you are in the country please sign up, so that owners needing help can find a pet food bank near them. So many people don't know where to look for help, so please let's give them a helping hand.
VOLUNTEER RESCUE TEAMS - If you dedicate your time to helping search for lost pets, if you are experienced trappers etc, or have vital equipment that could help in the search for lost pets please sign up and offer your services.

The public need to know where to turn for responsible rescues, they need to know who will help in times of need and they need to know which services are legally allowed to care for their pets and keep them safe. So please, let's point them in the right direction and sign up to Paws Unite today!

Paws Unite is on a mission to bring together animal rescues and lost and found pets onto one platform to give rescues a place to advertise their pets for free. This will allow potential adopters a place to see every rescue who has signed up which will help the smaller rescues from being overlooked and their animals missing out on homes.

It will also allow lost and found pets to be placed in one area so that owners with missing pets can advertise them and rescues and dog wardens can advertise stray pets that end up in their care, in the hope that they can be matched up with owners looking for their pets and reunited quicker.

As it stands stray animals spend 7 days in the pound and then they are re-homed or euthanised before the owners even know that their pet has been found. We hope that our platform will help reunite pets and owners at a quicker pace than it is currently, which will free up kennel spaces, allowing more animals to be helped.

We are so pleased to be partnering up with Muddy Paws Crime and Smart Snout, who are two amazing organisations working to help pets and their owners. Muddy Paws Crime help owners to liaise with the Police when searching for their stolen pets and they help support the families. Smart Snout is a new up and coming App that uses the dog's nose as ID. As you may know a dogs nose is much like a human finger print, no two are alike which makes this technology a much better product than the current microchips which can be removed from your pets body.

Please remember this is an ongoing project, it will only work well if we all Unite and work together. Please share far and wide and sign your rescue dogs up to the site to help them get seen by more people. Please click on Lost or Found to sign up dogs needing to be reunited with their owners and lets spread the word to get these dogs in their forever homes.

* Foreign rescues will need to message us to sign up their UK contact who will be responsible for rescue back up of their dogs. Without this i'm afraid you won't be able to join our platform at this time.

The Smart Snout app is absolutely amazing and something that every dog owner should be using. The dogs nose is just like a human fingerprint, so no 2 noses are the same. No! However, we will need proof of the address that your rescue runs from. You must offer rescue back up (RBU) to all of your pets. If proof is shown that RBU hasn't been given to a pet under your care and you refuse to help or take a pet back, you will be banned from advertising on our platform.
