We’ve supported the police to secure a dog running on the A52 this evening after reports of two dogs running loose.

Both dogs are safe and back with the owners. Thankyou to everyone that supported ensuring these two were kept safe.

Please share this message far & wide - written after some frustrating events over recent weeks. This has NOTHING to do with the XL Bully situation so any comments referring to this will be deleted.

The dog wardens are REAL people with a passion to ensure dogs are reunited or rehomed through proper channels and are more than frustrated at organisations and people continuing to share INCORRECT GUIDANCE AND UPDATES.

If you find a dog and cannot locate an owner within a hour or so you MUST contact the dog warden and hold onto the dog until collected or you may need to take to a reception centre out of hours.

We have seen reports of dogs microchips being scanned and details checked to find they are not registered or incorrect details but being reunited with apparent owners! Again this is illegal and does not ensure the microchip details are updated.

We’ve said it before, but the Local Authority & authorised dog wardens (wherever you live in England at least) are the only organisation & people that have jurisdiction to deal with stray dogs.

We always recommend calling the dog warden if you lose your dog too as it makes sense that as people must report found dogs to the local authority then surely it makes sense they should be notified of any lost dogs in the first instance to help reunite.

This doesn’t mean dont engage other search & rescue teams but lets try and help them focus on dogs not found by the dog warden by contacting them after checking with the dog warden.

Of course, the BEST advice for ALL DOG OWNERS is - put a collar & tag with a phone number as minimum on your dog AND get your dogs microchip checked for the correct details - do not trust an implanter, breeder or vet to register or update the details for you !!

We have found social media posts showing this dog was actually found 28 November, however our investigations have shown this should have read December.

Further posts suggest the dog is rehomed - a) this is FALSE INFORMATION and b) ILLEGAL !

We have since been notified of a lost dog that matches the description but an unwillingness to provide contact details of the finder is preventing us reuniting.

It is a criminal offence to not report a found dog.
