Could your muck heap be sabotaging your pasture management? 😱 Westgate Labs has the answers! Learn how proper muck heap positioning and management can help keep your horses healthy and your grazing in top condition.

‼️💩 Is your muck heap helping or harming your pasture management? Redworm larvae can wriggle up to three metres from dung piles so make sure you’re not wasting all that hard work by aiding parasite reinfection of your grazing land. Positioning and managing your muck heap correctly can help protect your horses and keep your grazing in top shape.

WIN A GREAT PRIZE FROM BEDMAX!
We are getting to the stage of the winter season when everything seems grey, dirty, and covered in mud.
To brighten up your day, we have an amazing prize from BEDMAX, the only company currently certified to the BETA NOPS Scheme for bedding and our BETA member supporting Winter of Welfare and Well-being.

WIN A VOUCHER TOWARDS 4 BAGS OF BEDMAX!!!
******NOTE TO ALL ENTRANTS: please ignore any messages saying you have won and asking you to click on a link taking you to a fake BETA website. It is a scam. If you win we NEVER ask you to use a link to claim!!!
To take part in the competition, answer the question below in the comment.

True or False
Manage moisture carefully: bedding that is too dry can cause hoof cracks, while damp bedding softens hooves and invites bacterial infections. Regular mucking-out ensures the bed remains clean, dry, and comfortable all season

Then. . .
Give us and Bedmax a follow if you haven’t already done so.

Deadline for entries: 30th January, 12 pm
Winner announcement: 31st January

This competition is run by BETA on both Facebook and Instagram. Correct entries will be combined from both accounts and one winner will be selected at random from them. Always wear your hat, whether you're riding the safest horses or enjoying time off the saddle!

As temperatures drop, it is essential to adjust your horse's diet to ensure they remain healthy and thriving throughout the winter.

In one of the interviews from our series, we spoke with NAF's Head Nutritionist, Kate H**e, about the key factors to consider when managing your horse's diet during the winter months. Kate explained that winter can be beneficial if you have an overweight horse or pony. While it is important to prevent them from getting cold and wet, be careful not to over-rug them. Additionally, keep their diet simple and balanced.

Kate also referred to some very interesting research on what horses prefer when it comes to rugs. Check it out!

To watch the full interview, please refer back to the autumn edition of the BETA Feed Fact for 2024.

Thank you, Kate and NAF!

🚨The VMD has seized over 13,000 unauthorised horse medicines sold illegally online. We urge horse owners and equine vets to remember that advertising, importing, and administering unauthorised products is illegal and risks animal health.

We are sharing this important update from the Medicines Directorate as part of our Feed Fact Fortnight and Winter of Welfare and Well-being. Thank you!
