🌟 Hi, I’m Merlin! Let Me Tell You My Story… 🌟

Hello, friends! It’s me, Merlin. I thought I’d share a little about my journey because, well, it’s been quite the adventure. My path hasn’t been the easiest, but thanks to some amazing humans, I’m finally learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and understood.

I’ve come a long way! These days, I’m starting to realize that the world isn’t quite as scary as I thought—especially when people give me the time and space I need. Other dogs? I’m okay with them, as long as they respect my personal bubble (seriously, who likes someone all up in their face?). Humans? I think they’re wonderful too, especially when they’re patient and kind. Once I trust you, I’ll show you my fun, affectionate side.

A Few Things You Should Know About Me:
I’m a bright, clever boy, but I’ll admit—I’m still figuring out some things. Quick hand movements? Nope, they make me nervous. Crates? Absolutely not my thing. I won’t go down or into one, so let’s just agree to leave those out of the equation. And bigger men? Well, they can be a little intimidating for me. most of the men here its a no, but Cole? He’s my guy—he just gets me!

I’ll be honest: I’m a dog you need to win over with patience, not force. I’m wary and suspicious of new things and people at first, so it’s vital that you don’t rush me. No chasing me, no grabbing me, and no following me around. Let me come to you on my terms, and trust me—it’s worth the wait. Once I trust you, I’m loving, fun, and oh-so-loyal.

Why I’m a Little Magical:
I might need time to warm up, but I’ve got a big heart full of love waiting to share. With the right person, I’ll shine brighter than ever. My rehab team has worked tirelessly to help me feel safe, and they’ve let me grow at my own pace. They understand me completely, and thanks to them, I’ve already come so far. I might even say I’m their “good boy” (which I am, obviously).

Why I Need You:
I’m ready to find my forever family—but I’ll need someone who understands me. I need a home without kids (I can get snappy if startled) and someone who will go at my pace. Rushing me or forcing me into situations won’t work, but if you’re patient, kind, and understanding, I’ll show you my incredible potential.

I’m proof that rescue dogs aren’t broken—we’re just waiting for the right people to help us feel safe. I’m learning to trust again, and when I do, you’ll have a loyal, loving companion who’s truly magical.

A Snowy Stroll and a Snoozy Snooze: Chloe’s Rescue Dog Life 💜

Hello, darlings! It’s me, Chloe, a Salt’s Helping Hounds Rescue diva, reporting live from my foster-to-adopt palace. Life is paws-itively fabulous these days, though I’ll admit, it wasn’t always this glam but thanks to some time in a fab rehab kennels I very quickly found myself starting a new life. Today, I thought I’d share a little about my new life, my fabulous fashion sense, and my human, who’s working harder than Santa's elves in December to help me be the best dog I can be.

A Winter Wonderland AdventureLet’s start with the snow. Picture this: me, strutting my stuff in my warm, snug coat, looking like the canine equivalent of a Vogue cover model. My dad and I went for a snowy stroll this morning, and let me tell you, I turned heads. But it wasn’t just about looking fabulous—staying cozy while exploring is a must when you’ve got paws that aren’t exactly built for frosty terrain.
Dad says these walks are all part of our "behavioral training," but I just call it my daily sniffari. He’s incredibly patient, always teaching me how to walk nicely and reminding me not to pull (okay, try not to pull) when I see something exciting, like a squirrel. He says I’m a work in progress. I say I’m a masterpiece in the making. Tomato, to-mah-to, right?

Snooze Goals: AchievedAfter our frosty adventure, I did what any self-respecting rescue dog does: I commandeered my bed for a luxurious nap. Exhibit B (the second photo) shows me mid-snooze, dreaming of treats, belly rubs. Life’s tough, but someone has to live it.

Imperfectly Perfect—That’s Me!Now, let’s talk about being "imperfectly perfect." Rescue dogs like me come with a bit of extra baggage, but hey, doesn’t everyone? My dad knows I’m not perfect—sometimes I may bark too much but he’s fully committed to helping me grow. I know how much he loves me because he shows it every single day with his patience, cuddles, and willingness to share the couch (his mistake—I’ve claimed it).

The Chloe-Dad BondHere’s the truth: my dad and I have something special. He calls me his “best girl” and I greet him with tail wags that could generate electricity. Whether we’re braving the snow, practicing good manners, or just lounging together, the love we share is undeniable. He says I’m his "soul dog," and honestly, I feel the same way about him.
So, to all you humans out there thinking about adopting a rescue dog, let me leave you with this: we’re not perfect, but we’re worth it. With patience, love, and maybe a fashionable coat or two, we can become the best companions you’ll ever have.

Until next time, keep warm, stay fabulous, and don’t forget to give your dogs an extra belly rub for me.
Love,Chloe 🐾

🌟 Hi, I’m Sage! Let Me Tell You My Story… 🌟

Hey there, I’m Sage—named after the herb, but let’s be honest, I’m way cooler. What’s your name? Can we be friends? I LOVE making friends, especially the kind that come with snacks and belly rubs. 🐾

I’ve had quite the adventure so far—some parts a bit bumpy, but thanks to some amazing humans, I’ve grown into a confident, happy boy with a waggy tail and a heart full of hope. Now, I’m on the hunt for my forever family. Could that be you?

Why I Need You:
I’ve been learning a lot lately, and now I’m ready for the next big step—finding my forever home. I’m a big boy with a big heart and even bigger potential, but I need a family who understands that I thrive on structure, consistency, and plenty of love.

With me, you’ll get loyalty, laughs, and some goofy antics thrown in for good measure. Oh, and here’s the best part: Salts Helping Hounds Rescue will be there to support you every step of the way. They’ve been my superheroes so far, and they’ll keep cheering us on as we start this new adventure together.

A Bit About My Journey:
Once upon a time, I was a misunderstood pup bouncing from home to home. People thought I was “too much,” but I just needed someone to teach me the ropes. Luckily, the incredible team at Salts Helping Hounds Rescue stepped in when I needed them most.

And let me tell you about my rehab kennel crew—they’re my absolute heroes. They’ve worked so hard to help me learn to trust, channel my energy, and show off my good-boy skills. Thanks to them, I’ve transformed into a playful, confident dog who’s ready to take on the world (or at least your sofa).

What I Bring to the Table:

Super Smart: I love structure, routine, and learning new things. Give me clear instructions, and I’ll follow them like a pro.

Eager to Please: I want to be the best boy—I just need a calm, patient leader to show me the way.

Active and Fun: I’d love an active home with dog-savvy humans who enjoy structured play, training, and adventure.

People-Friendly: I’m great with humans and love making friends, but I need a pet-free home so I can be the star of the show.

Loyal Beyond Measure: Once I trust you, I’ll be your most devoted buddy.

A Few Things to Know About Me:

Okay, full disclosure—I’ve still got a few quirks. I’m a big dog with big energy, and while I’m working hard on my impulse control, I sometimes get a bit carried away. Like, remember that time I decided to “borrow” a cat bed (don’t worry, there was no cat in it)? Or when I grabbed Jessica’s coat after an hour of running wild in a freedom field? That’s me—full of personality, but I need someone to help me channel it.

Here’s the thing: I need structured play and training, monitored free time, and help to wind down afterward. Too much free time and no guidance? I go full "bolo mode," and you might see smoke coming out of my ears. But give me calm, consistent instructions with positive reinforcement, and I’ll stick to the rules like glue.

A Special Shoutout to My Fan Club!
I’ve got my very own fan club called Sage’s Salty Saviours—a group of amazing people who make monthly donations to help with my rehab costs. Thanks to their kindness and generosity, I’ve been able to keep working toward becoming the best version of me. If you want to join this special crew, you’d be helping me and dogs like me get the care we need while we wait for our forever homes!

Why Forever Matters:
After everything I’ve been through, I dream of a forever family who believes in me and gives me the structure I need to thrive. Thanks to my rehab team, I’ve learned how to channel my energy and embrace the joy of companionship. Now all I need is someone to show me what “forever” feels like.

The Best Part?
Salts Helping Hounds Rescue will provide ongoing support! Whether you need advice, guidance, or just a pep talk, they’ll always have your back. And my rehab team? They’ll keep cheering us on from afar.

Details About Me:
Age: 2 years
S*x: Male
Breed: Crossbreed
Neutered: Yes
Dogs: Best as your only pet
Cats: I haven’t lived with them

🐾 Help Salt’s Helping Hounds Give Rescue Dogs the Time and Love They Deserve 🐾

At Salt’s Helping Hounds, in partnership with Save Our Seized Dogs, we’re driven by a mission that goes far beyond just “saving” dogs – we’re here to give them a true second chance at life. For many of our rescues, the road to recovery is long, often marked by a past filled with hardship, trauma, and fear. And "safe" is only the start.

Healing takes time, but it also takes the right people. That’s why we place these dogs with rehabilitation kennels where the team is not only highly skilled but also deeply, passionately dedicated to each and every dog in their care. These kennels understand that these dogs aren’t “cases” – they’re individuals who deserve love, patience, and an unwavering commitment to their recovery. Every step of their journey is treated with the care and respect these dogs so desperately need.

We know that everyone’s feeling the pinch right now. But every single donation is a direct line to food, medical care, safe kennels, and emotional healing for these dogs. We focus on the dogs that others might shy away from – those with “difficult” histories and complex needs – because to us, they are worth every moment and every penny.

By donating, you’re not just helping us keep a dog safe; you’re giving them a chance to heal and ultimately to find a loving forever home. Your support goes directly to kennels that understand the importance of patience and kindness. Together, we can turn "safe" into "forever."

Please consider donating to our GoFundMe. Every little bit truly makes a difference.

Boris Here: Dispatch from My Foster Kingdom (a.k.a. The Sofa)

Hello, everyone! It’s your pal Boris, coming at you live from my foster home, where I have claimed the couch as my royal throne. I recently turned the big 4, which means I’m officially an expert in couch lounging and the fine art of not moving unless absolutely necessary. The humans here try to entice me with walks, but let’s be honest—why walk when I can snooze? They call it “daily exercise”; I call it “disrupting my beauty rest.”

Now, let’s address the snack situation. My foster humans say I have to “watch my weight.” Listen, I’m watching it just fine—right after every snack! They seem to think my portion sizes need limits, but I’m always open to negotiations on that front. Just don’t tell them I said that.

On the health front, I’m prone to a few skin and ear annoyances—typical for my breed, apparently. The foster team has me on a top-notch routine with cleaning, a solid diet, and some meds to keep everything in check. I grumble a bit about it, but the truth is, they’re doing a great job of keeping me feeling like my usual handsome, slightly grumpy self.

And yes, I’ve got a face only a mother could love—don’t be jealous! Plus, I’ve perfected the side-eye that says, “I may be in a foster home, but I’m still the boss here.” Cuddles? Oh, I’m a total softy when I feel like it… under my strict cuddle terms, of course.

So, there you have it, my loyal fans. I may be in a foster home, but I’ve made it my own little kingdom. Now, back to my regularly scheduled napping.

Yours in sofa domination,
Boris

🐾 A Message from Buddy: From Kennels to Couch—The Tale of a Lockdown Dog-Turned-Couch Sloth 🐾

Hey everyone, Buddy here! Reporting live from my forever couch, where I’ve officially mastered the art of the nap. It took a while to find my humans, but let me tell you—good things really do come to those who wait (and know how to lounge). 🏡💙

Here’s my story: before Salt’s Helping Hounds Rescue stepped in, I was what they call a “lockdown dog.” That means I got adopted during the big stay-at-home days but ended up with little to no training. Let’s just say that’s a recipe for disaster especially for a large lad like me.. I found myself in police kennels, with my future looking a bit rocky. But those officers saw right through my quirks. They believed that with the right training and the right family, I could do well and didn’t deserve to lose my life without being given a chance. And, boy, were they right!

Enter Salt’s Helping Hounds Rescue. Thanks to a heads-up from Save Our Seized Dogs, Salt’s took me in—and they didn’t just rescue me. They gave me lifetime RBU (Rescue Back-Up for all you humans). This isn’t your average rescue; they don’t cherry-pick the easy cases. They put years and plenty of pounds and pennies into finding me the perfect home. And while loads of people offered to take me in—which would’ve saved them a ton of cash—Salt’s said, “Nope, Buddy needs the right match.” And they waited. And waited. Until the right humans came along.

And let me tell you, it was worth it! Now, I get tons of walks to sniff my heart out, and while I’m not a fan of dogs getting too close, my humans are working with me on that. I’m pretty much a pro at the “cool guy across the street” routine now. And the best part? My humans even rent a whole giant field, which they call “Buddy’s Kingdom,” just for me! In Buddy’s Kingdom, I go full throttle with fetch and zoomies, ruling my little slice of paradise like the regal couch sloth I am.

But here’s the secret: the amazing folks at my rehab kennels didn’t just teach me to fetch and focus—they unlocked my true calling… my inner sloth. Sure, I’ll chase a ball if the mood strikes, but let’s be real: nothing beats a good couch snooze. I’ve turned lounging into an art form, whether I’m stretching out belly-up, curling up on my humans, or sprawling out like a certified couch sloth. 🛋️💤 Why run when you can sloth? That’s my motto.

Now, I need to take a second to thank all of you wonderful people who support Salt’s Helping Hounds Rescue. It’s because of your donations and kindness that they can help dogs like me get a second chance. Right now, they’ve even got an auction going that closes at 8 p.m. tonight! So me and my pals would really appreciate it if you’d check out the fab items and maybe place a bid or two. You see, without raising these vital funds, Salt’s couldn’t help dogs like me, and where would the world be without a few extra couch sloths?

To Salt’s Helping Hounds, Save Our Seized Dogs, my rehab kennels and those wonderful police officers who believed in me from day one—thank you for giving me a shot. And to all the rescue pups still waiting, hang in there. Your perfect couch (I mean home) is out there, and when it comes, it’ll be worth every second. 🐶🌟

Love,
Buddy the Couch Sloth, King of Buddy’s Kingdom

Today, we say farewell to our beloved Hendrix, who crossed the rainbow bridge, carrying with him a piece of all our hearts.

Hendrix’s story is one of heartbreak and hope. Once sold for a mere £20.00—a painful reminder of human cruelty—it marked the beginning of a new journey, leading him to Salt’s Helping Hounds in 2019. From that day, he had our promise of lifetime rescue and care.

In 2020, Hendrix’s lucky paws found their way into the home of Sue and Pete. What began as foster care quickly became family, and Hendrix had truly found his forever.

In Sue and Pete’s loving care, Hendrix was given a beautiful life, adored and cherished every step of the way. They stood by him, from those early days until he drifted into his forever sleep, giving him a home that was filled with love and comfort. We can’t thank them enough for being his family, his protectors, and his constant companions.

Hendrix’s spirit was strong as he faced Cushing’s disease and, more recently, dementia. The hardest, yet kindest, act we can give our friends is to let them go with dignity and peace, sparing them from suffering. When the time came, Hendrix had Sue and Pete right there beside him, holding him close and showing him endless love as he slipped away.

Our hearts go out to Sue and Pete, who have lost not just a friend, but a soul who loved them unconditionally. Hendrix, you were adored beyond measure and will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know you. Rest easy, sweet boy. 🌈🐾

23/10/2024

I’m Charlie, and I’ll be 3 in December. But it feels like a miracle, because there was a time when I didn’t think I had any days left. I was so close to giving up.

I used to have a family once—a real family, with people I loved and trusted. They were my whole world. I thought I was theirs, too. I don’t know what I did wrong, why they stopped loving me. But one day, they took me to a field, dropped me off, and walked away. They didn’t even look back. I sat there for hours, then days, waiting, hoping they'd return. But they never did. And slowly, I realized... they weren’t coming.

The hunger burned inside me, gnawing at my bones, and the cold nights felt endless. My body grew weaker, but that wasn’t the worst part. The worst part was the confusion, the heartbreak. How could they leave me there, knowing I couldn’t survive? How could they just walk away, knowing I’d die alone? They knew I had no way out of that field. They knew. But still, they left me. I had given them all the love I had, but to them, I was just… nothing.

I lay there in the dirt, watching the days blur into nights, feeling my body give up. My heart was shutting down too. I was too tired to hope anymore, too broken to even cry. I had nothing left.

And then, something unbelievable happened. A woman, just passing by, saw me. She wasn’t looking for me, but she found me. I was too weak to get up, too broken to even wag my tail, but she came over. She picked me up, and for the first time in what felt like forever, I felt something I thought I’d never feel again—kindness. She saved me from the fate my family had left me to face alone.

That’s when Save Our Seized Dogs-Putting BSL to Sleep UK and Salt's Helping Hounds Rescue stepped in. They didn’t just see a dog on the verge of death—they saw me. They didn’t look away. They pulled me back from the brink, and promised me something I thought I’d never have again—a lifetime of care and love.

Then they brought me to the rehab kennels. Let me tell you, these kennels and the humans who work there? They are nothing short of amazing. It wasn’t just about food and water—though, believe me, I was starving—but they gave me so much more than that. They gave me time to heal, not just my body, but my broken heart. The people there? They’re my heroes. They didn’t just throw food at me and walk away. No, they stayed by my side. They fed me through the night when I couldn’t eat on my own. They comforted me when I was too scared to sleep. They gave me space to learn how to trust again, and most importantly, they made me feel like I mattered.

I can’t even begin to explain how incredible these humans are. They didn’t see me as just another sad, abandoned dog. They saw Charlie, and they loved me. They made me feel safe, wanted, and cared for in a way I hadn’t felt in so long. Every single day, they were patient with me. They knew I had been through so much, and they gave me the time I needed to heal, both inside and out. Piece by piece, they helped me come back to life. It wasn’t just about survival—it was about truly living again.

Now, I’m healthier and happier than I ever thought I could be. I’ve learned to love humans all over again, and I adore the ones who’ve cared for me. I’ve been working hard on my training, learning how to walk without pulling too much, and even figuring out that "drop" means treats! I love toys, I love food, but most of all, I love the humans who’ve taken care of me.

I’m still a bit scared of the dark, but the kind people at the kennels even thought of that. They gave me a night light, and it helps me feel calm and safe. They’ve thought of everything to make sure I’m comfortable, and I can’t thank them enough for it. These humans are angels, and because of them, I know what love feels like again.

Now, what I need is a forever home. A place where I’ll never have to wonder why I was abandoned. A family who will love me like the humans at the kennels have—with patience, kindness, and endless care. I need a pet-free home, no kids under 16, but lots of love and understanding.

The people at my rescue, SOSD and my rehab kennels gave me the chance to live again, and now I’m ready to take the next step. I’ve got so much love to give, and I know my best days are still ahead. I’m ready to share them with the right family—a family who will love me for who I am, just like the incredible humans at the kennels have done.

So, if you've got room in your heart and home for me click the link below and fill out an application form. One of “my” team will be in touch with you soon!

13/10/2024

Hi there, I’m Derek—a 53kg ball of fluff, nerves, and love. I’ve got a story to tell, and trust me, it’s a rollercoaster. So, buckle up, grab a treat (I’ll wait if you want to fetch one for me too), and let me take you back to where it all started. Spoiler alert: I almost didn’t make it.

It began on one of the worst days of my life. I was standing outside a vet’s, shaking like a leaf in the wind. I didn’t know what was happening, but I knew it wasn’t good. I’d been tossed around, travelling in the back of a van all the way up to Scotland and then back down again. No rest, no peace—just fear. I was exhausted, stressed out of my mind, and ready to give up. Then, I heard them talking… about putting me to sleep. Yep, they were ready to end my life.

I wasn’t aggressive, I wasn’t a bad dog—I was just scared. But to them, I guess that was enough. My heart was sinking, and I thought, “Is this it for me?”

Then, like something out of one of those movies with dramatic music and slow-motion running, a lovely lady arrived. She stepped in and said, “Wait, this dog deserves a chance!” I didn’t know it then, but she would change my life forever. She reached out to Save Our Seized Dogs and Salt’s Helping Hounds Rescue, and before I could even finish my panic panting, they were on the phone to the vets, working out a plan to save me.

That’s how I found myself at Abbey Boarding Kennels, which, let me tell you, is basically like a five-star doggy rehab. This place is amazing! They treat us like royalty, with all the patience and care in the world. It’s more than just kennels—it’s a safe haven for pups like me to heal and grow.

But this wasn’t going to be easy. I wasn’t exactly a carefree pup at this point. Trust me, after everything I’d been through, I wasn’t going to be handing out tail wags and cuddles to just anyone. I was nervous—really nervous.

But the team at Abbey and the folks at Salt’s and SOSD? Wow. They’re patient, kind, and honestly, I’m pretty sure they have superpowers. It takes a lot of love and effort to get a dog like me to trust again. It’s not a quick fix; it’s a long journey. And guess what? They promised they’d be there for me for life—no matter what.

Oh, and speaking of drama, there was a moment where someone even reported me to the police, saying I was a banned breed! Can you believe that? Me?! A banned breed?! I might look big and intimidating, but all I want is a belly rub and maybe a snack. Thankfully, after some paperwork (and probably a few more treats to calm my nerves), it was confirmed that I’m just a regular dog—not banned, just big, furry, and a little misunderstood.

Now, I’ve got to give a massive shoutout to my special hooman—she’s been working with me ever since. You see, I can be a bit of a busybody. I like to say hello to everyone I meet—usually by running up to them like a freight train. I’m not dangerous, but not everyone is thrilled when a 53kg dog barrels towards them, tongue out and tail wagging. So, she’s been teaching me some manners, and she even got me used to wearing a muzzle. I’m not going to lie—I rock it. It keeps me safe, and honestly, I feel pretty handsome in it.

My special hooman is helping me work through my anxieties, giving me the time and space I need to feel comfortable. She’s been my guiding star, and I think every dog out there deserves someone like her.

But here’s the thing, folks: all this—the rehab, the training, the second chances—it’s not possible without help. Dogs like me need resources. There are vet bills, kennels, food, training. The truth is, it takes a lot to give dogs like me a second chance. But it’s worth it.

If you’ve got a few coins rattling around, would you consider donating? Every little bit helps, and trust me, no amount is too small. It all adds up, and it all makes a difference. You could even set up a monthly donation if you’re feeling extra generous! And if you’ve got some unwanted items lying around, why not donate them to an auction to help raise funds? Your kindness keeps dogs like me safe, fed, and on the road to our forever homes. Thank you for making my tail wag again.
