Three-year-old Ozzy was rushed to our Basildon Pet Hospital for urgent treatment after suffering from a life-threating blocked bladder 😿

It's with thanks to support from our partners like Ever Clean UK, that we're able to provide life-saving treatment for pets like Ozzy.

Ozzy’s owner, Ronny, said: “Ozzy just wasn't himself. He was having trouble going to the toilet and was leaking small amounts. He also kept crying, wouldn’t eat or drink, and didn’t want to leave my side.”

Senior Veterinary Surgeon, Victoria Dean, diagnosed Ozzy with a blocked bladder, which is a serious condition that prevents cats from being able to p*e. As blocked bladders can be fatal, Ozzy was immediately admitted for further investigation and treatment 😔

Victoria said: “Ozzy was admitted so we could put him on a fluid drip, administer pain relief, and place a urinary catheter to drain urine from his bladder. His urine sample showed crystals, which could have caused the blockage, but luckily, no bladder stones were seen on his x-ray.

“When his catheter was removed, he was able to urinate normally and was obviously a lot happier! Due to the great progress he made, Ozzy was able to go home with a recovery cone and pain relief. Ronny was also advised to feed him a special prescription diet to help dissolve the crystals.”

Thanks to his medication and plenty of rest, Ozzy went on to make a full recovery! Ozzy will need to keep eating the special food to help prevent the crystals forming again, as he is now at higher risk of this happening again.

Ronny added: “My Ozzy is the sweetest cat you could ever meet. I honestly don't know what I would have done without PDSA. I believe my Ozzy wouldn't have made it. My family and I have always used their services; we trust them very much and are so grateful for the work they do.”
