COMPANIONSHIP
Every bunny needs some bunny to love.
From the RWAF
"The importance of companionship for rabbits and the benefits ...
Rabbits are quiet animals in comparison, but there's a good reason for this – their behaviours are naturally very subtle to avoid detection by predators. But studies show that rabbits value companionship of their own kind as much as food and rabbits who live together show fewer problem behaviours"

If you have a rabbit living alone then they are missing out on one of the most basic welfare needs that is companionship of their own kind. We regularly hear about rabbits who we are told are ok because thy are friends with cats? dogs? and guinea pigs?
but every rabbit needs to live with at least one other compatible rabbit.

We have lots of single rabbits looking for homes and can give advice and support throughout the bonding process.

Your rabbit needs to be neutered before we can consider your application and homes must meet RWAF guidelines.

The rabbits looking for homes are on our website.

Foraging Walk - our next foraging walk will be on Saturday 7th September at 11am.
The walk lasts around 1 to 1 1/2 hours and will be held at Rudston in East Yorkshire.
Afterwards we go for a pub lunch/drink which is optional and is an opportunity to meet and chat to other rabbit owners and volunteers from the rescue.

If you are interested in joining us for this walk we ask a donation of £5 per person and please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to attend.

We were kept busy all day and hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.
Thankyou once again for your support and to everyone who donated items for us to sell or raffle, tombola prizes, books and cakes. You are all amazing.
It was lovely to see lots of new faces as well as our regular supporters who we can't thank enough for their support and generosity.
As always every penny raised will go to help the rabbits in our care.

April - April is now our only lone female rabbit and she is still looking for a home. We can't believe that this beautiful girl is still waiting for her forever home.
She came to us via a vet nurse who had cared for her after she was handed in to a local vets with a bad injury to her ear due to being entangled in barbed wire. She is now fully recovered from her injury and has been spayed and vaccinated.
She is very friendly and loves to run and explore. She is however lonely and needs the companionship of another rabbit asap.

We estimate that she is around a year old.

If you are interested in offering April a home AND have a neutered and vaccinated male rabbit that she could be bonded with then send us a message or ring on 07955 074607
Home must meet RWAF guidelines and we ask a donation of £70 for the adoption of a female rabbit.

Cookie and Coco - pair of 4 year old dwarf rabbits. Cookie and Coco were adopted from us in 2021 but have now been returned to the rescue due to their owners relocating abroad. They are a male/female pair, neutered and vaccinated and would suit an indoor home (without dogs) with adults or a family with older children.
If you are thinking of adding a pair of rabbits to your family then please consider Cookie and Coco who have ended up in rescue twice through no fault of their own.
They are beautiful friendly rabbits who love to play with their toys,

Good news! Harlequinn (Quinn) and Pepper have been rehomed.
Both these rabbits came to the rescue at different times having been found by members of the public roaming free, neither rabbit was microchipped and no one came to claim them.

They were both neutered and vaccinated at Filey Veterinary Practice and have happily paired up and found a home with one of our fosterers.

We hope they will have a long and happy life together 🐰❤🐰

Shared from another rescue, this is why we do not support pet shops that sell animals (or rabbit breeders).
For them its all about making money not welfare.

Adopt Don't Shop🥲🥲🥲🥲

⚠️TW: Neglected and deceased animals

‼️Major retail park pet shop chain continues to sell live animals, leading to misery and suffering‼️

It has been another heartbreaking week at WAW as we witness the tragic outcomes when innocent animals fall into the wrong hands💔💔

Just before the weekend, we responded to a call from a concerned neighbour. We found a resident with complex needs housing multiple animals - dogs, cats, and rabbits - in small, filthy conditions. The resident was breeding and selling rabbits, originally purchased from the retailer, to anyone with money on social media.

Among the horrors, we discovered four 15-week-old baby bunnies in tiny, dirty hutch with their mother’s body reported to have been discarded in a wheelie bin the previous week. We convinced the owner to surrender the surviving baby bunnies. Tragically, when we returned a couple of days later to collect them after securing emergency space, they had all died. Our vet's postmortem revealed no obvious cause of death, leaving it unexplained.

The resident had also recently bought two 11-week-old Guinea Pigs from the same retailer. Sadly, the Guinea Pigs have gone missing since our initial visit.

Despite these tragedies, we remain dedicated to the welfare of the animals and continue to help with the other pets, including neutering all the cats.

The sale of live animals by this retailer MUST STOP. The retailer claims to comply with all regulations and provide the best care possible, but they show little regard for the fate of these animals once they leave their premises. The retailer is equally, if not more, responsible for this cruelty and misery as the owner. While appropriate organisations continue to support the resident, the retailer must do better😞‼️

🌈🐰RIP, sweet little bunnies - we are deeply sorry that your only experience of life was one of cruelty and neglect in a tiny, disgusting hutch. We hope you finally get to enjoy peace, freedom and maybe a binky over the rainbow bridge.

👉Please support the Babba Campaign to end this abuse.

Acorn Rabbit Rescue

We are a small rabbit rescue based in Bridlington, East Yorkshire. We are experienced rabbit owners and members of the Rabbit Welfare Association. We previously volunteered for the RSPCA for a number of years fostering and rehoming rabbits and small animals. Unfortunately the focus of the local branch became primarily about cats and kittens and the funds required to meet the rabbits needs were redirected elsewhere therefore we decided to leave and set up our own rescue. Our aim is to take in rabbits that are in need or are unwanted by their owner, to have them vaccinated and neutered and find them loving homes where they will have the company of another compatible rabbit and their welfare needs will be met. We always carry out a thorough home check before rehoming any of the rabbits in our care. 100% of any donations we receive and funds raised will be used for the care of the rabbits.
