We fit products all over the world via video consultation, so family and friends are often roped in to hold phone cameras (often begrudgingly!) so we can check correct application and fit.

Camera skills vary considerably between clients and I’m usually jokingly holding a “camera skills competition” and encouraging them to be bought beers or g&t’s for their assistance - after all we can’t do this without their help!

So this morning we had the amazing Patrick Handley who was helping fit to the beautiful Lilly in France (isn’t she adorable!) - and it turns out his camera skills have placed him at the top of our rankings! Being a photographer and knowing his way round a camera certainly helped him reach this accolade so competition has hotted up!

Any ideas from followers what the 2022 voluntary camera person prize should be?

Let me know in the comments! 😊

Thank you Patrick!!

Thanks to all of you who sent an invite link to your vets inviting them to complete the Vet Certification Course - we have had a positive first response and the invite emails have been sent!

You should have a copy of the invite letter sent and interactive brochure sent to your email address, so you can raise this with your vet should you want to.

Please keep inviting those you would feel would be interested in learning about how to diagnose and treat equine lymphatic disease - we do need to raise awareness so that the disease is caught early and treated appropriately!

The invite link to Module 1 of the Vet Certification Course can be found on the Equilymph website -

Was lovely to meet this sweet mare - although the case was complex and necessitated a rather unconventional working solution for secondary lymphoedema as a result of lymphangitis infection.

There is a LOT that can be done for horses prone to lymphangitis. After every episode, the lymphatics are damaged further and even if the leg "goes back to normal size" the tissue is often severely compromised. Breaking the cycle of re-infection means an Active stage of reducing the volume of the oedema, and then a Maintenance stage of using "just enough" pressure to stop refill.

Lymphoedema is a dynamic disease that is continuously shifting, and there are often many factors that need to be considered in devising treatment protocols, but horses tend to respond very well.

Medical compression sounds scary but isn't - my role here is to get owners self managing but also knowing they can also get hold of me and ask questions (no matter how stupid they think they are - they really aren't!) and feeling happier and more confident in what they need to do.

Great to have owners totally up to speed on lymphology and ready to learn the practical skills needed to manage the condition. An added bonus of Graveney being a beautiful track livery with amazing facilities and stunning views down to the sea.

The course trains vets over two learning modules (Module 1 covers general lymphology and Module 2 the diagnosis and treatment of equine lymphatic disease and prescribing our products).

Please help spread awareness of this disease, and complete the form on the Support page of our website. Your vet will then be emailed a letter and interactive brochure, informing them that you have recommended the course to them. We will also send you a copy of the letter and the brochure so that you can see that it's been sent.

Lets hope we get a lot of interest from vets wishing to learn about the disease and it's treatment.

For support on which product is suitable to treat your horse, please contact our support or send your vet our veterinary information support pack.

I miss site visits! A great afternoon helping this wonderful family and a cracking, gorgeous lad who'd been through the wars recently.

Note to self - think I need to find my baseball cap! What's happened to my hair! 😂

What a brilliant afternoon of learning with Equilymph Ltd Billy will now be in medically correct compression whenever stabled. If your horse is prone to stocking up or has CPL, lymphangitis, cellulitis etc it's so important that you seek help, most vets have little or no training in lymphatics and so finding an expert is such a relief.

Very happy and proud to announce that Module 1 of the Online Vet Course in Equine Lymphology has been finished and will be ready to send out to veterinary surgeons interested in learning about the diagnosis and treatment of equine lymphatic disease.

Module 1 covers the pathophysiology of the lymphatic system, and Module 2 focusses on the diagnosis and treatment of equine lymphatic disease including how to measure and prescribe medically correct compression.

Module 3 will be a specialist skills workshop run round the UK in multi layer lymphoedema bandaging (MLLB).

A link will be set up on our website for those who wish to invite interested vets to subscribe to the course, and we will post details about this when it goes live.

We will be starting a fun educational series based on the vet course which we will be posting on our YouTube channel and new Tiktok account, as well as here on our page.

Increasing our understanding of lymphatic disease is so vital - we need to get the subject known about and talked about so that the word spreads and we are better placed to help horses suffering from this condition.

After all, who knew that medically correct compression would soften and reduce the skin folds that was previously believed to be an impossibility?

Thank you to all you champions and pioneers!

Now that the drier weather has arrived and evenings lighter, we are excited to announce that we will be trialling the hire of our two Deep Oscillation Personal (DOP) devices over the spring and summer period.

These will be available to hire from £125 a week, subject to conditions.

The Hivamat / DOP is a medical device that is used as an adjunct to lymphoedema treatment and works by using an electro-static charge to gently shuffle and soften fibrotic, thickened skin. It has been the medical device of choice for lymphoedema clinics worldwide as the only device that is safe to use on lymphatic disease. More information can be found at www.physiopod.co.uk

The DOP is very useful for horses with scars or thickened skin folds and it works best when horses are kept moving or are using compression, with the tissue softening remaining nice and pliant.

Combined with compression, results can be augmented considerably and this is a perfect time to use compression if your horse is out in small, relatively dry paddocks. As horses walk more in restricted paddocks than being stabled, you can achieve a greater effect due to the compression garments giving an extra burst of pressure with every hoof-fall.

For more information about booking and Terms and Conditions of Hire, please email [email protected]

Some incredible news showing such a change in skin fold reduction using the Equilymph Double-wraps!

The change in 5 months of nightly winter compression therapy from October - March 2022 is quite staggering, but we decided to see what occurred when this patient went to using nighttime compression from 7pm to 6.30am, over 5 nights a week.

Increased movement over one month shows yet another significant reduction over a very short period.

For those using the skin fold test, these folds over the ergot area were 4/5 and are now 1/5 on a CPL score of B.

So very happy for both patient and owner - a lovely result to see!

The Advantages of Compression Therapy During Spring and Summer Months in Equines

Using compression treatments during the spring and summer are proving to be much more effective in equines due to increased movement of horses in small fields and paddocks.
Traditionally we have counted one hour of compression as being one hour of active treatment in CPL when stabled. However, due to the increased pulsation of the horse taking more steps in compression it has been found to be ~80% more effective over the same time period.
This greatly improves the symptoms of CPL in time for winter stabling which makes management during the winter months much easier and more comfortable for the horse. This has the added effect of improving skin and tissue quality, reducing the complications of skin infection and mite infestation and improving outcomes.
If your horse is brought into small paddocks to restrict access to spring grass, and those paddocks are fairly level and well drained, then they can add up hours in compression during the daytimes or during night-time (if daytimes become too warm).
Counting up the number of hours in compression using the hourglass analogy, it means that you can get your credits in a little faster for the year.
Additionally, for horses susceptible to laminitis, an added bonus of compression through the spring months is that it supports drainage of the lower limb and decreases the inflammatory drivers that occur with the disease.
The Double-wraps will cope with a little rainfall, as the filaments inside the fabric dry out quickly, however those horses with deep skin folds need to be mindful not to let these areas get damp as they can get prone to infection. Likewise, during very hot spells, compression may need to be removed, as legs should not be allowed to get sweaty.
Treatment during the spring and summer months greatly improves the treatment/compression ratio and outcomes for the horse.

Equilymph are running a Spring 2022 instalment programme, helping spread the cost of payment over 6 months. Uni-wrap compression boots are also available to help support laminitics during spring months. Email [email protected] for more details.
