As Christmas is on the approach, sadly we see the increase in rawhide in the shops! We care deeply about your fur babies, and we want to share some crucial information about the potential dangers of rawhide chews. While these classic treats may seem like a go-to option, there are important considerations to keep in mind:

🐾 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀: Rawhide is difficult for dogs to digest, leading to potential digestive blockages or irritation. This can be especially concerning for dogs who are enthusiastic chewers.

🚫 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Many commercially available rawhide chews undergo chemical processing to achieve their appearance and preserve shelf life. These chemicals are not good for your dog's overall health!

👅 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱: As dogs chew on rawhide, it softens and can become a choking hazard, particularly if it becomes too small or if a large piece is bitten off.

💦 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺: Some rawhide products are treated with high levels of sodium during processing, which may not be suitable for dogs with certain health conditions, like kidney issues.

It's set to continue to be hot and it makes us so sad to see so many doggos out in the midday heat! 😢

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝘀 𝟭𝟲°𝗖! 🤯 While it’s fun to play outside in nice weather, heatstroke in dogs can happen very quickly!

As a rule of thumb, if you’re too warm in a jumper, your dog is likely to be overheating. Certain breeds, such as brachycephalic dogs are more likely to overheat, as well as puppies, elderly dogs, pregnant dogs and those with underlying health issues! 🥵

Many will retreat into the shade to cool down, allowing air to circulate through their coats. However, some more excitable dogs struggle to adapt their behaviour to help them stay cool. If this is the case, it is important to reduce their activity as much as possible, as overheating can occur in temperatures as low as 16°C!
