Did someone say Cat Calendar Competition?!

That's right, believe it or not we're prepping for the new year already and it's time for us to get ready for our 2025 calendar.

Our fosterers are sometimes lucky to get some good pictures - if they sit still for long enough. However this is not always the case! So we're asking you to send us the best photos you have of your little darlings in the comforts of their own homes 🐱

Please DO NOT send them to us on facebook, send us an email! At: [email protected]

Please remember to include your best (up to 3) cat pictures as well as details of owner name, cat name, cat age (at time of photo) and be sure to mention if they are an Orkney Cats Alumni! All entries will be judged equally however we would like to be able to mention any/all who were helped by ourselves.

Please note this competition is not endorsed, sponsored or administered by Facebook, nor is Facebook associated with our competition.

The unfortunate result of not neutering.

15 kittens between 5 mums.

Did you know female cats can become fertile after 12 weeks of age and can get pregnant again in 8 weeks, or less, after a litter of kittens 😔

*UPDATE - WE HAVE FOUND OUR FUREVER HOME*

Hello! We are Cheese (Ginger - boy) and Pickle (Black/Brown - girl)🧀🥒
Our birthday is the 12th of May, so we’re now 10 weeks old and ready for our new home.
🤍

They are brother and sister and must be rehomed together (they are a bonded pair) ideally with safe access to the outdoors after a settling-in period. It is an essential requirement that they are homed well away from a busy road. 🚗

They have been wormed at 3 weeks and again at 8 weeks🪱 They would be okay with children who have been taught to respect pets, and cat savvy dogs.

We are very confident little monkeys who love to play together, with or without other people, our toys or the current resident dog🥎

This is a ‘home to home’ adoption, which means there is NO adoption fee for these little monkeys, however a donation to Orkney Cats would be much appreciated! 🥰

If you think you can give this pair a suitable, loving, home as per the requirements detailed above, please DO NOT send us private messages, but simply fill in this form: https://bit.ly/2WsafAF

Your form submission will be sent to the foster carer for review. They will then decide if you are a good match. If you don't get a response, that means that unfortunately your application was unsuccessful on this occasion. We get a lot of applications and are limited on volunteer time, so please bear this in mind. 😊

Please note further terms on our application form and if you rent a property, we will need a landlord permission letter stating clearly that you are allowed to have pets. 🏡
Thank you for your continued support! 🐾

Hello everyone! from all of us at OC HQ ☺️

We're hard at work in the background as kitten season is well under way here in Orkney!

This means we will have kittens becoming available soon.

If you think you can give a kitten or two a safe and loving home, please DO NOT send us private messages, but simply fill in this form: https://bit.ly/2WsafAF

Your form submissions are then sent directly to the foster carer for review. They will then decide if your living circumstances are suitable to be adopting an animal into. Successful applicants will be contacted. If you don't get a response, this means that your application has been unsuccessful.

We get a lot of applications and are limited on volunteer time, so please bear this in mind. 😊

Please note additional terms and conditions within the application form and if living within a rental property, we require landlord permission (letter or tenancy agreement) stating clearly that you are allowed to have pets. 🏡

Thank you for your continued support! 🐾

This is Charlie and Teddy.🧸
A pair of tabby brothers (one eyed black cat is not included) aged 2 and half years old.
They are neutered, microchipped and up to date with their flea & worm treatment 💪🏻

It is essential that they have a new home well away from any busy roads as this is what they are used to, they will need safe access to the outdoors after a settling-in period (to be discussed) but they love to be inside overnight.🌙

They are good with children who have been taught to respect pets.

This is a ‘home to home’ adoption, which means there is NO adoption fee for this gorgeous boy, however a donation to Orkney Cats would be much appreciated! 🥰

*UPDATE* We have found our forever home

This is Bunty (Male) and Bobby (Female).
They are almost 5 years old. 🐈

Bobby is long haired.

They have already been neutered/spayed and will be up to date with flea and worm treatment prior to adoption💪🏻

They are a bonded pair of siblings and must be rehomed together with safe access to the outdoors after a settling-in period. Their current location is very quiet and in a great rural location therefore it is essential that they are homed well away from a busy road. 🚗

Although they currently sleep in a cosy outbuilding, they may be keen to come inside, they are very sweet natured and will make lovely pets if they are given time and patience to settle after being rehomed as they are just craving affection.💞

They would be okay with older children who have been taught to respect pets.

If you think you can give these two their forever home, please complete an application form: https://bit.ly/2WsafAF

Once you have submitted your information by filling out the form in the link above, this will be forwarded to their fosterer for review, they alone (or with the help of our welfare team) will then decide if you are a good match for this pair.

Unfortunately, if you do not get a response, that means that your application was unsuccessful. We receive a lot of applications for the animals under our care and are limited on volunteer time, therefore we cannot reply to everyone. Please bear this in mind.

This is a ‘home to home’ adoption, which means there is NO adoption fee for this gorgeous pair, however a donation to Orkney Cats would be much appreciated! 🥰

Please note applicants residing within rental properties are required to provide Orkney Cats with proof of permission of pets.

Your support and shares are always welcomed.
Thank you! 🐾

**UPDATE ** We have found our forever home.

This is Holly and Willow🍂
They are 6 months old.
Holly is the predominantly white one of the pair.

They have already been spayed and microchipped and are up to date with their flea and worm treatment. 💪🏻

They are a bonded pair of sisters and must be rehomed together with safe access to the outdoors after a settling-in period. It is essential that they are homed well away from a busy road. 🚗

Although they are still a bit nervous, they are very sweet natured and will make lovely pets if they are given time and patience to settle after being rehomed.

They like other cats. They have not been around dogs but may adapt to dogs who are familiar with cats. 🐶

They would be okay with older children who have been taught to respect pets.

They are very playful with each other and with their toys. 🥎

Successful applicants will get 5 weeks free pet insurance when you adopt one of our animals. An adoption fee of £40 per cat/kitten applies.

Please note applicants residing within rental properties are required to provide Orkney Cats with proof of permission of pets.
Your support and shares are always welcomed.

*UPDATE MY RETIREMENT HOME HAS BEEN FOUND*

This here is the (not so famous) Johnny Cash. He has come into the care of Orkney Cats and we’re looking for a long term foster for him. He’s an old chap with thyroid issues. Our aim is to find him a companion to live out the last of his senior days with (estimate age to be somewhere in the teens). He would love a cosy lap to cuddle up on. Due to his ongoing medical care, Orkney cats will cover all his vet fees (he is currently on medication for his thyroid).

If you have any questions or feel as though you could lend this lovely lump your lap, please do message our page, or alternatively email us at [email protected]

Please share with your friends 🐾

*UPDATE I HAVE FOUND MY FOREVER HOME*

This is Bruce 🐱
Estimated to be around 3 and a half years old.

He’s a very handsome chap with some beautiful markings! A very playful little boy, enjoys the company of other cats (and dogs!). Would be better suited to an indoor home.

I am already sorted and microchipped. 🤍
I am also up to date with their flea and worm treatment💪🏻

*UPDATE: WE HAVE FOUND OUR FOREVER HOME*

This is Skara (Tortie - F) and Brodgar (Tabby - M)!🌟

This pair are thought to be around 4 months old❤️

They are still on the shy side but are coming at slowly therefore would require a calm home, with a patient family as they are not used to young children and are wary of loud noises📢

They have not yet been neutered but will have to be once they're big enough. They are however up to date on flea and worming treatment💪🏻

It would be nice to see them rehomed as a pair, however this is not essential.

If you think you can give either of these two (or both!) their forever home, please complete an application form: https://bit.ly/2WsafAF

*UPDATE: I HAVE FOUND MY FOREVER HOME*

This is Husband!😻

Husband is suspected to be around 4/5 years old❤️

Husband is a big, strong boy. He's incredibly friendly and enjoys a cuddle🤗 Also a great hunter! 🐭

Husband is described as being a "shed cat", he likes to be outdoors and has been most of his life but is highly domesticated and would love somewhere warm to sleep with his family just in time for Christmas🎄

He is regularly (and easily!) treated for fleas/worms and is neutered.🏡

Husband has had an operation to remove a lump (caused by Bovine PV) on one of his legs, the surgical site will have to be kept an eye on to ensure full recovery.🤕 He is otherwise in good health!

If you think you can give this handsome chap his new forever home, please complete an application form: https://bit.ly/2WsafAF

There is no adoption fee for Husband.

***REMEMBERING THE CATS***
Thousands of cats were dispatched to the trenches during WW1 to keep rodent numbers down and act as early warning detectors for mustard gas. So many gave great comfort to the troops as companions and mascots. How many cats survived we will never know?
Paws At The Ready -

The cats of World War One had significant role in all the campaigns, we must honour their bravery too.
Give thought to all the kitties
who served in World War One.
A battalion of the finest
who never fired a gun.

What was their role?

Whether hunting rodents out at sea,
or loyal friends to men,
these many cats had vital roles,
time and time again.
The food was saved.

A common sight in trenches deep,
dispatching mice and rats,
the soldiers’ had a special bond
with many of these cats.
Many were treasured mascots.

Five hundred thousand cats were sent
to serve in the Great War.
Some detected mustard gas,
whilst others were off shore.

Some of the feline heroes -

Togo was the Dreadnought’s cat,
The Swan had their lad Ching.
Pincher was the Vinex’s mog,
it was luck they hoped they’d bring.
‘Martinpuich’ was aptly named,
by The 9th battalion chaps.
Pitouchi was the orphaned kit,
who’d survived on army scraps.

Spark Plug, Tabby and many more
were companions to the troops.
The feline unsung heroes,
those cats who became recruits.

We’ll never truly realise
just what these cats went through.
So spare a thought and give some thanks
for what they did for you!
Lest We Forget!
