The morning after the night before...

Young master Dougie enjoyed his big night out with both Ernie and Glen. It looks like he might have enjoyed himself a little too much though - a big sleep needed 😆

Beautiful Birdy. From being the perfect pony for mum's return to the saddle, to a model 'enthusiastic eater' for Simple System Horse Feeds.

Highlands really are very verstile 😆🦄

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁... One Stubbs scoop of 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗕𝗲𝗲𝘁 soaks up to 5 Stubbs scoops of water - that's enough to fill a feed bucket almost to the brim!

This makes 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗕𝗲𝗲𝘁 a low cost, low calorie option for bulking out feeds. It is unmolassed and is useful for good doers, older horses who require a soaked feed, and for those prone to metabolic issues.

Don't hold us responsible for any spills though - that's down to physics. If you have an enthusiastic eater (like Birdy who is pictured), we strongly suggest using a larger bucket!

𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗕𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗯𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗱. For convenience, try soaking one feed ahead i.e make up the evening feed in the morning and the morning feed in the evening.

Soggy stallions on Sunday.

My goodness it was a wet one here in the Peak District yesterday. Luckily Highlands are well equipped to cope with such weather - well, the girls are at least, the boys not so much 🙈😆

These two big, strong stallions were waiting to be brought indoors for their Simple System Horse Feeds supper and a cosy bed!

Red is spending some time time indoors having been quite unwell. She's still a way to go but is heading toward recovery. She has had a nasty infection having rubbed underneath her udders, causing a cut which became infected. With Red being in foal such things are a little trickier to treat safely and we are very grateful to our super vets, Little Rock Equine Vets, for working their magic with Red.

Anyhow - we can tell Red is feeling much more like herself as she's back to showing her best grumpy face to anyone who she doesn't fancy hugs with! Luckily, she still loves hugs with her favourite humans though - that might be something to do with the fact that we provide her with her favourite feeds 😉

Poor Trevor - he's after a kiss and hasn't quite realised that the lady most definitely says no!

Heald Town Heath is in the house 😆

Fun fact about me.
I’ve never used ‘LOL’ in my life. Ever. I hate it. It gives me the ick.
I used to think it meant ‘lots of love’ too.

Fun fact about my husband.
He often leaves the back door open and lets the horses into the garden. I leave him to deal with the consequences… whilst I take photos, and laugh (without using the word ‘lol’).

After Glen left his girls on Saturday he came home to the yard, had a bucket of his favourite Simple System Horse Feeds with some hay, and then he was reunited with his best buddy - 4 year old stallion, Dougie.

We always feel blessed to be able to turn our boys out together. There's always a few moments of 'rough and tumble' (they do this daily) before it's heads down to eat.

Watching them play also serves as a good reminder of just how kind and respectful these boys are when they're being handled. We are certainly very lucky to have them.

So this happened this weekend... After 10 years out of the saddle, Heald Town Herd Leader, Carolyn, is back on board! 🥳

It's so nice to be able to see mum back in the saddle - on a homebred pony (Birdy) too. Coincidentally, Birdy is 10 years old.

For those that don't know mum, she's the grafter - the one that runs HT day-to-day.

30 years ago, she had an unfortunate accident at the riding school she worked at. The straw hestons fell on top of her, breaking her neck. She spent 6 months in traction - fixed to a hospital bed with months unable to feel her feet. Eventually, some feeling came back, and with much work and determination, she got back to her feet and was released wearing a halo - a metal frame drilled through her skull to keep her neck from moving.

Anyhow, to cut a long story short, she was told she'd never ride again. Anyone who knows mum well knows if you tell her she can't do something, it makes her more determined to do it.

She did indeed ride again, but not only that, she decided to fulfil a dream of breeding Highlands. Her riding pony, Koko, became her first broodmare when she foaled Bonny in 2008, and the rest is history!

Fast forward a wee bit, and mum stopped riding again for a few reasons. Mostly due to time and discomfort. Last year, mum had a much needed hip replacement.

On Saturday, mum said she felt ready to get back in the saddle, so on Sunday - she did it!

I think the video says it all - in the saddle is where she's supposed to be 🤩🥰🥳

Former Heald Town resident, Lochmore Arabella has been out strutting her stuff with her owner, Anna.

Although Arabella wasn't bred by us, she was purchased as a yearling at foot, along with her dam - our Lu Lu.

Anna fell in love with Arabella during a visit to Heald Town. She wasn't for sale, but the two of them really clicked. Anna visited Arabella a number of times over what must have been a couple of years, and they were always so happy to see each other.

Eventually, we agreed that Arabella would go out on loan to Anna, and the rest is history! Anna now owns Arabella and it really is wonderful to see them doing so well together.

These photos were their ''second dash'' at showing and they were 2nd and 3rd in their classes.

Huge congratulations to Anna - you've done an awesome job xx

Today's the day many of our smaller people get back to school, signifying the end of the summer.

Much of our summer was spent sharing calendar images and we missed sharing so many updates from our ponies who've flown the nest - just like this update from the lovely Bru, who is owned by Amy Harris.

Bru has been enjoying popping some jumps and he entered his first ridden show. Amy doesn't do things by half as this first show was at Equifest in a class of 27! Amy and Bru went through to the evening performance and were placed 6th 🥳

So proud of them both- Bru is such a versatile stallion and don't they look amazing!

Do share with us your favourite summer photos - we'd love to see them 🤩
