I'm now selling isopod/reptile/fish/insect/snail/carnivore (you get the idea) food. There's bee pollen, dried silkworm pupae, spirulina, dried river shrimp, dried daphnia, dried calciworms, dried mealworms and calcium...so far.
I'll also be selling roach chow soon (I'm out of kelp and a few other ingredients) and a few other things...you'll have to wait and see. 😉

Another great isopod food for those isopods that need lots of protein. It's also great food for aquarium fish, pond fry and koi etc and a great gutload for your livefood. Besides being a great isopod food because of high protein and calcium levels, these are a great food for hedgehogs and other mamm...

A big thank you to the person who left this feedback! It's a royal python keeper and considering the amount of you guys I have following me, I figure there's a fair chance it's one of you lovely people. I customised the order a little but not sure I'd call it going "the extra mile", I do these things all the time. 🙂

When you sell on Ebay, feedback really does make a difference and two minutes of your time can mean the survival of a small business.
And it's kind words like that that gives me a reason to keep going when it seems like the world is doing it's best to end me at the moment. So thank you, David. 👍

This Halloween I will be taking over the world with my zombie beetle army, bruuuuhahahaha! How 'Pinkie And the Brain' was that?
Not that I watch kid's cartoons.
Swiftly moving on...Whenever one of my beetles carks it, croaks, joins the choir invisible, shuffles off this mortal coil and starts stinking up the place... you know what I'm talking about, I dry them out and preserve them.
I have a few more of the protaetia aeruginosa, they're in the freezer but they'll be joining my army for sure.
I have some resin and I have some silicone molds and I think I'll make these into pendants. It's just plain wrong to throw these beautiful creatures away when they die. They had a good life and made lots of babies for me.
Not all death is ugly and this proves it.
I've never used resin before so wish me luck.

'Exotic chicken in a basket'?
Or "Guard the treasure" Dad said, "You're a dragon" he said. 'Hope I melt his chocolate, says I.
Or 'Wow! Smaug let himself go!'
Okay, I'm done. 🤣

So, I know this male mated with one of my metallic green females like the one in the second picture. Now I'm wondering what the offspring will look like. The guy in the first pic was a result of a totally jet black beetle and a metallic red. Is it possible to get a black beetle with green undertones or even green and red undertones? If there's any beetle experts out there who could shed some light on my questions go for it otherwise I'm going to have to wait until next year!

Yummy protaetia aeruginosa larvae! I've just started listing these (hit the Shop Now button) but I'm only shipping to the UK this year. Apologies to all my international friends. Swipe for a pic of the beetles and you'll find more pics in my account.

I had some gorgeous protaetia aeruginosa beetles this year. The black ones with the red undertones are just so cool. I nicknamed them cooling lava because that's what it looks like.
Sadly, some of these guys have reached the end of their life but I couldn't just throw them away so I'm going to preserve them in resin as pendants. I have the moulds and I have the resin. I just need to practice a bit to make sure I don't ruin one of these guys.
I'll be selling L3 stages of these guys soon so hit the link in my bio and save my Ebay account. There's really not many people in the UK who keep them and although I have shipped to the EU in the past it's just taking far too long these days so apologies to my EU brothers and sisters but I'm only posting in the UK for now.

So I took a quick phone pic of some of my adult a. gestroi to show a friend and I noticed an interloper. I know pseudoscorpions hitch rides on flying insects to get around but apparently they also take the (many-legged) bus.
On a side note, I have noticed I don't have any fungus gnats or soil mites in the enclosures I have an abundance of pseudoscorps. And they're cute, just watch the video I shot a couple of weeks back.

🎵 Raindrops on beetles and whiskers on kittens 🎵 That's how the song goes, right? I couldn't decide which pic to post so I posted all 8. I used my Nikon D5500 (with a cheap screw-on macro lens) on manual and adjusted ISO, aperture, exposure length etc myself rather than let the camera choose because I need to learn how to take better pictures. There's a little noise from the ISO I shot at but the beetles were moving and I wanted plenty of DOF so used a small aperture with an exposure length just slow enough to capture enough light without blurring from movement. I think I need to work on better lighting but with the beetles being so reflective I struggled between catching their colour and getting horrible bright spots on them and making their colour look washed out.
All my earlier IG post pics were took with my phone, even the first ones on the white backgrounds, which I'm really happy with, but my D5500 could have done a better job. If I knew how to use it, anyway.
If you read this far, any tips, tricks and constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. Sadly, I think the pics I took with my phone were better, so, I know I'm doing something wrong because it sure isn't the D5500.

This is my last few feedbacks on Ebay. I can never thank you guys enough for when you take the time to leave feedback. And wow, some of the messages I receive as well! Thank you so much!
I almost gave up when I became allergic to cockroaches and had to sell off all my stock. At the time, roaches were 90% of my sales but I had to get rid of them fast and I remember selling Madagascar hissing cockroaches for £50 for 10kgs. Not good times.
I hung in there and slowly I'm building up my isopods and beetles. It's slow going but I'm getting there and there's more species coming soon.
And besides the bee pollen, isopod and roach food and reptile supplements are also on their way.
Again, a big thank you to you guys who have supported me with your patronage and don't forget to message me if you have ideas on how I can improve things. Remember, I wouldn't have a business without you. 😘

I'm not saying I sell the best bee pollen but...🐝🍯😘

02/10/2021

I'm missing summer already. It will be a long time before Castiel will be able to do this again.

27/09/2021

How cute are these little guys? They're called pseudoscorpions and as the name suggests they're not actually scorpions. As crazy as it seems, they're arachnids and carry their venom in their pincers.
The species I shot in this video are from my isopod and beetle tubs and they help to keep mites down. They're only about 2 - 3mm and although they have venom in their pincers they're totally harmless to humans.

26/09/2021

Whoops, I just noticed the last video got squished up. Here is Castiel again, this time looking a bit less squishy.

23/09/2021

I breed these guys for selling but it's hard not to get a little bit attached to them. Some of my own breeding colony beetles are well over 2 years old. It don't matter if it's clean up crew, breeder or just an active beetle that makes a good pet, they have it all. Most of all they're cute. You may have noticed.

Bill took Doris to the All You Can Eat Butternut Squash Buffet. It's lucky it was 'all you can eat' because Doris knows how to fill her boots and Bill's on welfare since he lost his job at the VW Beetle plant. Times may be tough but those youngsters still know how to have a good time. 😁

Out of all my protaetia aeruginosa this is my favourite. I have metallic greens and reds and golds but this one is just too cool. It's like someone lit an LED under a plastic casing that looks black under normal light but when you underlight it you realise it's just a red so dark it looks black. The underside of this guy is also amazing, check the second pic.
When this one dies (hopefully not for a long time, last years aeruginosa lived for 7 months+) I will be preserving him in resin. I have quite a few moulds so maybe a cabochon mould and make him into a pendant. He's still only a whippersnapper though and he's currently making babies for me so long live my lava-boy!

I can see the colours with my eyes but they just don't come across in the video, (Shot with my Pixel 5). Any advice would be very welcome, especially from people with experience in videoing iridescent beetles.

Not my finest hour at photography but this little lady is about 2.5mm long so I had to hold an x60 jeweller’s loupe in front of my camera phones lens to get the shots.

This is a pseudoscorpion which as the name implies, isn’t a scorpion at, it’s a member of the arachnid family and like most arachnids, it’s very useful at preying on pests.

I have pseudoscorpions in a few of my isopod and beetle enclosures, the reason being; they prey on mites. As anyone who keeps isopods or beetles will know, mites invading your tubs can range from annoying to absolutely devastating depending on what the enclosure houses and the type of mite.

As you may have guessed from the picture, this female is carrying her embryos in an egg sack underneath her body. And that means more mite munching arachnids to keep my tubs free of unwanted guests.

Pseudoscorpions live for a few years, despite their small size and have an interesting feature. Those cute little pedipalps are the equivalent of a scorpion’s telson (stinger) in that they deliver venom to immobilise their prey. Unless you’re the size of a mite though, you have nothing to worry about, pseudoscorpions are totally harmless to humans.

I currently have a few tubs purely for these little beauties and hopefully I can figure out a way to take better pictures.

Every morning the same routine: Castiel wakes up, warms up, glass surfs until I take him out. I put him on the floor and he uses the makeshift ladder to get to his favourite place...the window looking out onto the park.
Once he's settled I put him in front of the net curtain so he can see better and strangely, people walk past and very rarely see him.
He sees them though, people watching is his thing.

Now available: Zophobas Morio pupae. These look like they belong on the set of one of the Alien movies and if you show these to your bearded dragon you will get to see Alien vs Predator.
Beardies love these, as do other reps, phibs and mammals like hedgehogs. Typically 2.5cm to 3cm (although I have had some over 3.5cm) they are quite a bellyful for smaller animals and packed with protein.
Of course, you could just let them turn into darkling beetles and breed morios because it's amazingly easy. 😉

Are we ever going to get some nice weather? This was 3 years ago today and it's a video of Castiel munching the greens we grow for our bearded dragons. We always have lots of types of greens but Castiel has a thing for carrot greens so that's always the first stop. Then it's rocket, dandelion, parsley, nasturtium (including the flowers), pea shoots and whatever else takes his fancy.
And just as important, natural sunlight because they need that D3 to utilise the calcium and phosphorous in their diet.

Whoops, I seem to have bought some more isopods! These guys are armadillidium peraccae and they're proof that not all superheroes wear colourful capes.
Peraccae may not be as stunning as gestroi or klugii but they're an excellent clean up crew for semi-dry enclosures. They seem to be quite active at night so perfect if you want them as CUC and your reptile, phib etc is diurnal. A damp corner with a bit of cork bark/sphagnum moss and these janitors will get on with their job and you will never even know they're there.
When I have a thriving colony you will find these guys on my Ebay account.

Another little (maybe not so little?) project I have on the go. Porcellio Sevilla (a.k.a. giant miniskirt isopod) is a Spanish isopod that reaches an impressive size. Like armadillidiums, Sevillas prefer a drier, more ventilated enclosure than a lot of isopods. I'm not sure how big these are supposed to get but I've had some reach 3cm which isn't Hoffmannseggi size but still a giant amongst isopods.
I have babies so fingers crossed. 🙂

My new project, armadillidium gestroi. Absolutely stunning ispods and I can't wait to get a good sized colony going.
