The wonders of the 'Magic Mat' This hunk of a dog was massively over-aroused by people coming to the house, hitting them with 50kg of love. One of the behaviours we have practised with him is relaxing on his 'magic mat'. It took a lot of work to get to this stage but here he is chilling in the front yard rather than slobber-bombing everyone within 100 yards. Love you Bandit.

Practicing recall training with a lovely young pup.
Can't beat a springtime dog walk.
Walk your dog off lead? He MUST have an emergency stop.#dogtraining #dogtrainingwarrington #dogtrainingtips
A sit stay with distance, distractions and duration. Maybe not competition standard but good enough for me.#dogtrainingwarrington #dogtraining #dogtrainingtips

This lovely girl Ruby is a foreign rescue. The moment she set foot in this country and probably way before, she has been fearful and reactive – especially towards other dogs.
We have been working with her and her family using a technique called Desensitisation & Counter Conditioning. (DSCC). There are no instant before and after videos like you see on U Tube and TikTok. This process takes weeks of hard work.
This video shows Ruby walking past another dog. The professionals amongst you will recognise that she is displaying stressful behaviours, but she managed to stay under threshold. In other words, she was stressed but still holding it all together. 4 weeks before this video, she would have turned herself inside out, screaming and snarling at the poor lab.
Aggression is always related to stress and this type of stress is generally related to fear. Fearful dogs need careful, compassionate care and support. You can’t treat fear with fear.

Saffi is a beautiful 2yo golden retriever. She is breed typical, very loving, playful and a bit ditsy. We met her because her recall was poor, especially with distractions. We went back to the beginning and started recalling in the house and garden, then to a sports field with few distractions and finally a wooded country walk with a dog's sweetshop full of distractions. This is what you have to do with most training; build distance, duration and distraction. Without these factors, your dog isn't really trained yet.
