Has your horse lost a lot of weight?
Are you on a hay only diet?

Two things to safeguard against.

1. Coat change from inadequate mineral supplementation. (In dark coated horses)

From darker (healthy) to red tinged (unhealthy) .

This isn’t good.

Whenever you see this change think is the diet balanced?.
Think of copper reserves. Are they adequate or lacking ?
(Horses running low will start to have a red tinged coat, then over the following year or 2 the hoof wall integrity will suffer) at the same time check for vitamin E, A (and D if rugged a lot). As if copper is low so will other essential vitamins minerals and likely amino acids.

2. Horse has lost a lot of weight in a short time. (Dangerous) but still. Then the assumption that this weight loss protects horses from laminitis.

Laminitis can still affect thin or lean horses. It is not a cure to be thin. Obesity in itself does not cause laminitis. Lean horses still need to be considered at risk if there is a history of, or diagnosis of EMS /IR.

Obesity is widely believed to cause insulin resistance in people but that’s not necessarily the case in horses. In people, it is generally accepted that weight gain can lead to the developmen…

Gary will get to clients as he can. People he can’t see he will aim to see between Christmas and new year.

Just a little reminder that Gary is still trying to catch up with clients after being sick. As well as not missing the weeks usual clients.

He can’t answer the phone or texts as he’s trimming most of the time.
If you want trimming and he doesn’t get back to you, or you have a general date and no time then message, as you’re not booked in yet.

If you dont hear from Gary its because he hasn’t planned a route yet. If he gives you a general day, it should be around that time period.

Lovely place to visit far from the madding crowd. Ponies on site so you can still get your equine fix!

The Frugaldom yard is open for overnight parking. All self-contained campervans and motorhomes up to maximum 7.5m welcome. From £5 per night. £5 charge for waste water disposal. We're an off grid animal sanctuary and rewilding project so all pets must be kept on leads while here.
