Hi Everyone, Apologies that this post has taken so long to put together, its been a very hectic year for us.

We've made the decision that we will not be returning to teaching Canicross classes or 1:1's, it's a decision that we've given a lot of thought to over the last year, and feel that it's the right choice for us, our family, and our dogs - we hope you can understand.

We'd like to thank everyone for all of their support over the years, we really do appreciate it.

However, whilst we won't be teaching Canicross anymore, we won't be totally vanishing - our skills, qualifications, and knowledge will be put to good use, by finally starting to offer dog walking and pet sitting/pet visits within the Helston area.

We aren't ready to open just yet, there is still a lot of prep to do behind the scenes - sorting insurance, re-branding, organizing, etc, but we'll let you know once we are closer to opening.

In the meantime, if you think you'll need a walker or pet sitter in the near future please send us a message to register your interest.

Class News:

As you may have seen we recently announced that we were expecting a baby later in the spring and would be taking a break from classes soon.

🐶We have decided that this will break will start from the end of March (31st). After this date, we will NOT be running any classes or 1:1's.🐶

At present we have no idea when the classes will resume, but since I am still unable to walk (let alone run), it will certainly be several months. We'll ensure that we keep our social media updated as well as our website.

Until the end of the month classes will still run as normal, so if you do wish to learn how to Canicross safely with your dog then now is the time to get booked into a class or 1:1.

We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the last couple of years, it has certainly been a challenging time to launch a business. During this time we have learnt a lot, met some lovely people (and their dogs) and feel so lucky to have been a part of our client's Canicross journey - hopefully we’ll see you again soon x

🚨Important Class News🚨

This will be the last week that our class is held at Tehidy for a while.

Unfortunately I, (Vicki) slipped over on Monday and broke my ankle, I’m in a lot of pain and discomfort and being over 22 pregnant means I’m struggling with mobility and require some extra care and sadly I can’t afford for Dan to be away for over 3 hours at a time due to my vulnerability.

From next week the class will still take place but will be in Helston instead.

We’ll be taking an extended break in spring from all classes and 1:1’s as we get closer to the due date - but we will provide more information on that closer to the time.

We were planning on being back teaching classes this week, but it looks like the dogs have other ideas....

Both Otis & Briar have managed to injure themselves - not sure how they have managed it, and neither are serious, but they need some time to heel before they are allowed to run around in the mud again.

Our dog's health and wellbeing is always a priority and I do not wish to risk them picking up any kind of infection from mud. Hopefully, they'll be better again in time for next Thursday's class - will keep you posted, have a great week.

Some of you may have noticed that I (Vicki) haven't been present in classes recently, and there has been a good reason for that.

In late spring we are expecting another new arrival to our family, but this addition won't have 4 legs or fur!

Of course, we had to get our 'head coach' Otis involved in this announcement by modelling his future baby brother or sisters outfit!

Sunday class is still running as normal - 8.30 AM from Degibna. This will be the last class of the year.

"Winter is not a season, it's a celebration"

I'm pretty sure this is a sentiment shared by many a Caniross runner throughout the country.....

But, let's be honest, It can be really hard to stay motivated enough to continue Canicross through the winter.

Once we get in from work on a cold winters evening often the last thing we want to do is go for a run with our dogs, but making the decision (and sticking with it) to lace up those trail shoes and go for a run with your dog could be the best decision of your day. The first 5 minutes are always the hardest, but once you are warmed up you won't notice the cold and you will be so glad you decided to go out for a run, and so will your dog!

Here are our favourite reasons to keep up Canicross during winter:

🌙 With the dark evenings it can be tough to find the time to exercise ourselves and our dogs but Canicross enables us to exercise together.

🌜 Exercising alone at night can be quite scary, but running as part of a group (all with their dogs attached to them) makes you feel safe and secure

❄️ The lower temperatures and humidity make running much easier for our dogs, you will notice they are able to run further and faster than other times of the year.

🏃‍♀️ A large amount of races are during the winter season - races are a great way of tracking your progress and seeing how well your training is paying off.

🐕 Getting to meet and spend time with like-minded people

🌳The trails are much quieter during winter - it makes exploring them much easier and more enjoyable

🍂 Exercising and spending time in nature is great for your physical and mental health (our dogs too)

The boys had a great weekend racing Canicross Midlands event. They managed 2nd place on day 1 in their category and 3rd on day 2 leaving them 2nd in their overall category, against some really great runners and dogs. Great racing Dan & Briar 🐶

Another great morning out on the trails. The 8:30 class did great work on the technical sections in the woods, working together with their dogs to navigate some challenging downhills building confidence. Then a 1-2-1 with Nichole and her owner building back fitness together after some time off.

Great morning session with Cooper and Rudi, We made the most of the cooler morning to work on some hill climbs with some controlled descents. Awesome work from both dogs and their humans.

I don't know about you, but we are certainly glad to see the weather is finally starting to cool down, the cooler weather makes Canicross much more comfortable for our dogs.

There is NO class this Sunday due to another race, but our Sunday classes will be back from next week at the NEW time of 8.30 AM

If you are new to the sport then we have all of the equipment available for you to borrow, you just need to bring your dog and suitable trail running shoes. Your dog needs to be 12 months and over to start their Canicross journey

The classes cost £6.50 per session

Loose Lead Walking and Canicross….

We often get asked if a dog that does Canicross can still walk nicely on a lead, the answer is YES, absolutely!

If you want to do Canicross with your dog AND still have a good standard of loose lead walking here is our advice for achieving the best of both worlds:

1. Ensure their Canicross harness is ONLY used for Canicross or when you WANT them to pull. Think of the Canicross harness as being their work uniform, they only get to wear their uniform when it’s time to go to work. The harness becomes a signal that pulling is allowed and they will begin to associate the harness with pulling. The Canicross harness must be a different harness than their normal harness.

2. Teach your dog a suitable cue /instruction that signals it’s time to start pulling/running. Only use this word when you are Canicrossing together

3. Loose lead walking doesn’t come easily to dogs - they naturally walk faster than us so training is a must. There are no shortcuts when it comes to loose lead walking, it takes a lot of patience and practice to achieve it. Be prepared to put the time in.

If you are unsure about how to train your dog to walk nicely on a lead then search for a good force-free trainer in your area to help and guide you.

4. Harnesses don’t teach a dog to pull (a very common misconception). But if they DO pull then a harness allows them to do it in a SAFE way without injuring themselves.

Dogs necks and throats are very delicate and vets see a lot of injuries due to dogs wearing collars and pulling in them, a harness allows them to stay safe and injury-free. The dog can still wear the harness while undergoing training for loose lead walking.

5. Do not punish your dog for pulling - some dogs can find it incredibly tough to adapt to the sport if they have previously been forced into walking to heel. Punishing your dog can also be extremely damaging to the bond you have with your dog and to their confidence. In Canicross your dog needs to have the confidence to run in front of you.

Be kind to your dog. Always. 💙
