Something slightly different from a dog post 🤔
Here you see Kendra a beautiful 14ft Burmese Python 🐍
If you wasn’t aware, as well as dog training I own a small zoo with my good friend Ranger Stu called Cedars Nature Centre which is situated in Cedars Park in Waltham Cross Broxbourne.
We’re a family friendly affordable zoo with entry only £2 per person for the whole day.
We run animal talks and meet and greets every 45 minutes plus we have additional experiences which can be purchased such as Meet the Meerkats or a Junior Keeper Experience.
If you’re looking for a family day out then why not pop in and have a look at our animals and say hi.
Been on radio silence for a while but thought I’d bring you this progress update about Poppy the 10 year old Jack Russell rescue.
Poppy had limited social skills when she arrived in her new home with Annette & Jon to the point that when seeing a dog even at distance she would react into a high pitch bark and would not tolerate any coming close to her.
Over five sessions we gradually built up Poppy’s trust and preempted her behaviour to respond with command words to help keep her calm and reassure her that she need not react.
Repetition and Consistency as always was the key and to maintain focus on Poppy. By session four Poppy was managing to walk around more built up areas and fields where other dogs would be. On session number five I used my demo dog Albury to walk along side Poppy and it couldn’t have gone any better.
Well done to Annette and Jon for persevering and giving Poppy a great forever home.

Over the past couple of months I’ve had the pleasure of training and working with Jude a 5 month old Cavapoo and his owners Michael and Kayleigh.
Over the 5 sessions we have progressively worked on Jude’s house manners, his lead walking and recall as it was all new.
Each session is designed to be a building block upon the last, ensuring the both Michael and Kayleigh along with Jude are confident in there approach and build a trusting bond with Jude as he grows.
As you can see from the video Jude’s recall and trust aligns with his owners confidence in him and the fact it took just two of those lessons to get him recalling off lead is a great testament to Michael and Kayleigh.

Something that might make you cool down..
A few weeks back on a session with the lovely Mable myself and her owner Jo introduced her to water.
It looks pretty straightforward here but to start with it took a lot of encouragement and wet feet to get her into the water especially as her toy slowly floated away.
Once she was in there was no going back.
We’ve carried out 5 sessions over a 5 month period since Mable was a pup and she has developed amazingly. We have worked on how to approach passing people, crossing high bridges, walking off lead and getting use to sights and sounds of busy areas.
It’s been an absolute pleasure watching her grow from a pup into this lovely dog.

An early morning session in Barnet today to avoid the extreme heat 🥵
Todays session with Wolfe was focusing on general behaviour meeting dogs and minor recall but fortunately we came across a small bridge, something which he has never tackled.
At first you’ll see he’s very unsure and nervous but the key here is “seeing is doing”.
Something so simple is a big trust builder and by walking next to or slightly in front plus providing reassurance in talking to your dog will allow them the confidence to tackle any obstacle.
Treats are not even needed as it’s about engagement, focus, patience and perseverance.
Wolfe quickly got use to the bridge and with a few more introductions during future walks will have no issue taking the lead when crossing.
Please remember to avoid walking your dogs during the hottest parts of the day. Think of the surface temperature on there paws along with the heat on there fur.

It’s a humbling feeling when you step back and look at what you invest your time into.
When you take the time to acknowledge the beauty of animals and the traits and behaviours they display.
To be a Director alongside a great friend and to be a Dog Trainer makes me feel so privileged and the late nights, long hours and the need to always adapt never ends.
Hard works pays off but the importance is to always stay hungry.
To all those that invest their time at Cedars Nature Centre Thank You 🙏
