Gorgeous Poppy, playing in the sunshine with some Working Equitation exercises today.
Inhand session
I’m working on lateral flexion, rein back and a bit of Spanish Walk with Benny in this video. I warmed him up on the lunge over raised poles first. We did walk and trot small circles around me, making sure he was laterally stepping his inside legs over his outside ones on both reins. I then worked on shoulder in, in walk and trot on both reins. We then did some rein back to trot. Finishing with some Spanish walk. I find these sessions so valuable in my training and Benny loves it as he gets lots of treats 😋. The whole session lasted about 35 mins including half on the lunge.
Another lunge day today and this time over some walk and trot pole. I rarely use training aids to lunge now, but I do like to put the passoa on without attaching the front part. The bit that goes round the hind quarters just gentle encourages the hind legs to step under. As you can see you don’t need to force a horse into a low frame…Benny is finding that stretch himself 😊.
We were working on small trot, bigger trot and steep and shallow angles in the lateral work this week. I’m doing a small trot with a steeper angle in the first half, then a bigger trot in the second half. Looking forward to practicing this over the next few weeks. 🤓
Our competition was cancelled today, so we decided to do a beach trip instead! Couldn’t have picked a better day! Benny was totally over excited by the whole thing! We did get some relaxed moments in the sea though and the scenery was spectacular!
Poppy’s second outing! We had an in hand and ridden lesson with Diane Thurman-Baker. She was foot perfect 🤩. Travelled perfectly. What a super mare she is 😇😍
It’s time to get the spring back in my step! 3.5 months since my accident and rehab is going well! 👌🏽👍🏻👍🏻🙌.

Beautiful early morning ride with Poppy! This gorgeous girl is sadly going to be looking for a new 5* 🏠. If any of my friends know anyone that would like a genuinely gorgeous, sweet natured PRE before I advertise her in a few weeks then PM me. 😍😢
So we now have alternate legs for the Spanish Walk! Still need to move forward…..👏🏼👌🏽
So I finally had a call from the community physiotherapists today!! He wanted to know what equipment I needed to get out of bed!! Ummmm 6 weeks late I’m afraid!! 🤔🤭🤦🏼♀️. Today I tried a small jog! It was very small, but a jog non the less 😅💪🏻! Big thanks to Joe @bodywiseuk for being fundamentally in my swift recovery ❤️🩹!
It had taken ages to get to this point in our Spanish walk training! I couldn’t video him actually doing a stride, I’ll have to use the Pivo for that! So exciting that he’s finally bringing his leg forward! I’m still not riding, but this time has been so valuable to both me and my horses as I’ve got some much better at the in hand work.
Benny has had a cough due to an allergy and part of his medication involves having an inhaler twice a day. This was very challenging at first as he hates sprays near his face! However with a few days training, lots of treats and kisses, we’ve cracked it. He even lets me do it in the field without a head collar now. 🥰
How cool is this horse! First ever time anywhere new, only restarted 2 weeks ago and she does all this! Such a special girl, I’m a very proud Mum 🥲😊🦄. Working Equitation is such fun and so brilliant for giving horses confidence with strange things. We absolutely loved it!
What a gorgeous day for a hack in the wood on a beautiful Spanish horse! Poppy’s neck is like a stallions 🤣😎🌞🦄
Proud as punch with Poppy today! She had her first outing….and in a lorry with another horse. Only 15 mins round the corner to the indoor school, but a perfect first run. She was absolutely perfect! Went in the lorry so quickly that @novajaynerobinson didn’t have time to video! Massive thank you to Nova for giving her such a good first experience in a lorry. Looking forward to taking her to her first Working Equitation clinic next Saturday! 😇🥰#andalucianhorse #babyhorses
Here’s some clips of my lesson yesterday. I really like the flow he creates in the lateral work…. One movement sets up the next. Changes are still a work in progress, but he’s given me lots of homework to help…. Piaffe is the key!
Day 3 of bringing Poppy back into work. Saddle and bridle on and poles 😇🥰Got to love the Spanish saddle pad and poles! 🇪🇸
Little bit of test practice for us yesterday. I’m moving Benny up to Elementary! This is some bits from E40…..centre lines are getting better😊.
We braved the wind and went to Kingston Maurward to do the Pet Plan Area Festival today. Benny was terrified of the sand bags blowing around in the warm up, so I wasn’t really expecting much in our test 😬. However he was actually really good! No spooking!! He could definitely be more open in his frame, but I felt the need to keep him a bit more together due to the wind. I got a comment in my last competition about not being clear enough with my give and retake, so I may have exaggerated it a bit today 🤣🤣🤣. It’s definitely clear 😂. We ended up with 67+% and just missed out on the placings, but it was a big class so I’m super proud of him. Lots to work on still but that’s the journey and I love it! 🥰🤩🥳Big thanks to Jenny for fab general support and camera duties! Thanks to @jackwlmartin for coming to the rescue at 7am to fix the jockey wheel!! 😘
