Merlin’s looking super proud of his first water retrieve, he hadn’t even retrieved a dummy from the water prior to this so I was pardon the pun “chucking him in the deep end”
Luckily it was from a boat and paddled upto within 15 yards of the bird and sent him in, he didn’t think twice before grabbing the drake gadwall and proudly swimming back with it.

Going the distance! 300m (330yrd) pigeon retrieve for Django. By far the furthest iv sent him for a retrieve but trying to work on his confidence on long retrieves, the typical spaniel trait on falling short. It’s not at all surprising that spaniels fall short of longer retrieves, we do teach them to stay in close when hunting them up a piece of ground. Not ideal to run a dog on hard standing like this track, I would normally be on grass but this is the only spot I could find that allows me to get the distance I’m looking for.
