No words can fully describe the passion Kris had for all animals, but especially the ones that others looked over. She never took the easy route. Instead, with no regard for her own comfort, and sometimes even safety, she looked to where the need was greatest, and moved heaven and earth to help animals that would otherwise be abandoned to horrific suffering and pain.

Not many people get to leave a genuine legacy, but countless dogs and cats living in safety as loved pets, and the families that love them, stand as Kris’s legacy, and will continue to do so.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our founder and angel Kris.

Words cannot express how devastated all of team Dogbus are.

Kris was an incredible woman who selflessly devoted her life to the rescue of those who everyone else gave up on; the thrown away, the abused, the injured, the desperate. She never stopped. She never said no. She moved mountains again and again. The world was a much brighter place with Kris in it and we will all, animals and humans alike, miss her terribly.

We love you Kris…..our animal angel. Sleep now and rest in peace ###🐶🐱💔

Meet Thora 🐾💛

Thora is our beautiful 18 month old laid back gentle giant.

Adult only home with no visiting children. She could live with another dog as long as it is calm as Thora likes her peace and quiet and home comforts! She is getting there with having a lead on, but she isn’t the biggest fan of walks, preferring just to chill out at home and potter around in the garden.
On a nice day she does like to be outdoors but we would advise keeping her in at night as she does like to sing her own special song to the stars! She is an extremely affectionate and loving girl and would make the perfect companion for a lone person or couple who like the quiet life. She can be fearful of men to start with but with time and patience she soon comes around. Thora will need regular grooming to keep her lovely coat nice and fluffy!

Thora is neutered, fully vaccinated and wormed.

We are planning on a huge spay and neutering campaign in Romania. This year has been so bad for street dogs who are already fighting for survival and then the explosion of puppies being born. The cycle continues and the suffering continues year after year after year.

Lots of dogs and cats eat their food far too quickly. This is often seen in certain breeds, (we’re looking at you Labradors….!), and in rescue dogs. And when the food tastes as good as Husse, who can blame them?

But it isn’t good for them. It can lead to bloating, and because they don’t chew properly, it actually harms the way they digest the food, reducing the nutritional value. A slow feeding bowl helps to overcome these problems, by forcing them to slow down, and it even adds some mental stimulation to meal times.

It is illegal to chop off a dogs ears in the UK yet there are many UK based companies like this one below that have their breeding facilities abroad and therefore can continue to sell cropped dogs into the UK market with impunity. Below is a screen grab of part of the section titled “Puppies for Sale”, I note the word ‘sometimes’ is used yet I see only cropped dogs on the site! It is time to end the UK’s part in the vile international trade in mutilated dogs, ending suffering for both dogs abroad and here by blowing away the smokescreen importation provides to those illegally cropping dogs in the UK! Fireworks
The simplest firework costs perhaps £5, rising to hundreds of pounds. For a few seconds of pretty lights and some loud bangs. Or “a bit of fun” as people typically justify it. But throughout the country, dogs, cats, horses and many other animals will pay the price. Scared, anxious and frightened, with no understanding of what it is. They aren’t having fun. Some will need medication, some will simply hide, some will run away, and some will not be found. Loved companions will be lost. For “a bit of fun”.

£5 can buy enough quality food to feed an average dog in rescue for 10 days or more. £5 can keep a dog alive. £5 can give a dog hope.

Or you could see fire to it. For a bit of fun.

How many animals will have suffered tonight, for people to have their bit of fun? And how many animals could have been fed, treated and cared for instead?

Dogbus need your help. Could you help these dogs? Could you sponsor their recovery? Or could you donate to help them?

I make no apologies for the pictures below. They are distressing, but they are the current reality for 9 dogs that have just been rescued from Pakistan. It’s hard to imagine the life they lived before being rescued. Aside from being severely underweight, they have clearly experienced abuse. One dog is likely to lose a leg once a vet has seen him, and another has serious pelvic issues. All have evidence of previously untreated wounds and abuse.

Yet they still want to trust and please humans. They recognise the love, care and attention from the team that rescued them, and bought them back here to safety. They are scared, and they are nervous. They are in pain, and they are hungry. But they still want to please. They still wag their tails, when they barely have the energy or strength to stand. Their spirit hasn’t been broken, and they haven't given up.

As much as can be done in , has been done, and now the hard work begins. It will be months before some of these dogs are ready to go to homes and complete their new families. One day, they will be loving, and loved pets. But the next few months are going to be expensive. There will be vets bills and physio, and there will of course be food and nutrition.

Which is where Husse, and you, can help. We will work with the DogBus team. We will support these dogs with regular reviews as we slowly, and carefully, improve their strength, health and condition. And we will support each one of them with the right food every step of the way. But we can’t do this alone - we need your help. Husse Mid Warwickshire will not profit from these dogs suffering. We are asking you to buy food as a donation, or even consider sponsoring one of the dogs. Any food for DogBus will immediately be discounted by 30%, and any profit that remains after that will be calculated and donated as additional food.

Please, please, help us to help these dogs. They deserve a chance. They deserve to see humanity’s good side, after only seeing it at its worst.

Have you ever wondered about the grains used in dog food?

A lot of people incorrectly believe that carbohydrate is bad for dogs, or at best, serves no purpose. They believe that because wolves, in the wild, eat a largely protein based diet, so should their dogs. The reality is that we domesticated a relative of the wolf some 18,000 years ago, and, since then, they have developed alongside us. They were never wolves, and they certainly aren't now.

There are a number of significant differences between dogs and wolves, not least that dogs produce enzymes that can break down starches and sugar to make energy, and have, (relative to body size), a longer digestive tract to support that. Carbohydrate is the most effective source of energy for your dog, and it has evolved to use it.

So dogs are omnivores, not carnivores, and it is our responsibility to feed them an appropriate diet. Feeding raw, suitably supplemented, is one way of doing that. But it isn’t a better way, and it certainly isn’t the only way. Most vets and animal nutritionists recommend a high quality, complete, dry food because it meets the dogs nutritional needs, supports healthy teeth and gums, is economical, and is low fuss.

Pretty much all dry food manufacturers, Husse included, offer a grain free food, for dogs that have a genuine intolerance to grain. But alongside that, you are likely to find foods using wheat, rice and corn, (maize). These, especially wheat, have been demonised by some people, but that is typically based on incorrect and/or incomplete information.
