Rex is needing a new home through no fault of his own. He is 3 years old in July and is the most loving and loyal dog who also loves children and gets on with other female dogs if they are introduced carefully. He is great in the home environment and is crate trained.

He needs an active home where he won’t be left alone for long periods as he will vocalise if he gets too bored. He also has the Collie trait of wanting to chase cars and his recall isn’t great, but these are all things that can be dealt with by training and keeping him active, preferably with a job such as agility or flyball.

He really is a lovely boy and if I had space I’d take him on like a shot, please contact me if interested in offering a forever home.

Like dog training, dog walking is a completely unregulated industry, with anyone able to set themselves up as a 'Dog Walker' and charge to walk your dog. They don't even need to have insurance, let alone any experience of handling dogs, qualifications or training.

When the IMDT offered a 4-day professional dog walking course I jumped at the chance to complete this to ensure that I am using best practice and to ensure the health and welfare of any dog in my care.

Due to an existing client moving out of the area I have a rare vacancy for a 1 hour group walk Monday to Friday at around 2pm, collection in Selston, Jacksdale or Underwood. I am a fully qualified dog trainer and fully insured, qualified and experienced dog walker. I specialise in integrating reactive or nervous dogs using positive reinforcement force free methods only. Please message me if you are interested or need any further details.

This popped up as a memory on my personal page, it reminds me of the amazing ability of dogs to cope with disability without any fuss. Smudge loved sitting at the gate watching the world go by, and even when he lost his eyesight in old age he carried on with his favourite pastime.....

It may have been bucketing down all day, testing my waterproofs to the extreme (they're just about holding up), but who cares when you have the best 'job' in the world... 🐕🐶🐾😁

To all my wonderful furry customers and their two-legged owners I'd like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Once again I have made a donation to the PDSA in lieu of giving Christmas Cards or gifts this year.

I hope you don't get too full on Turkey and get lots of extra walkies over the festive periods with your Hooman families.

A great day training with Kirsten Dillon Behaviourist learning even more about assistance dog training. Thanks to The Dog Trainer School for organising a great session.

What an amazing day with the awesome Kirsten Dillon Behaviourist delivering her assistance dog training session for us today.
An absolute pleasure having you with us and can’t wait for more next year 😁😁
Thankyou to everyone that attended and am sure Kirsten would love to hear how much you all enjoyed it too 😊

Meet Fizz - this gorgeous Border Collie is looking for a more suitable forever home through no fault of her own. Below are more details from her current owner who wants to find the best home possible for her. She is quite petite and super-fast so would make a great agility prospect. If you are interested please contact me and I can put you in touch with her current owner, who is based in Nottingham.

"Sadly we are looking for a new home for Fizz. She's an affectionate, enchanting and very speedy little character who has been with us for almost six months. Unfortunately our suburban environment is difficult for her, and despite our best efforts it isn't getting any easier.
Fizz was born in March 2022. She is from a long line of working sheepdogs, but she decided early on that she wanted a different career. We adopted her directly from the farm, where she lived outside in a pen with many other sheepdogs.
She loves being a pet dog, has adapted well to living in a house and enjoys her home comforts. She also loves to run wild in the countryside. Unfortunately, though, she finds life in the suburbs challenging. She's scared of noises such as children and footballs, and she's hard work on the lead, spinning and yapping and sometimes trying to wriggle out of her harness when startled.
When excited she can also be very vocal in the house.
Fizz is healthy and has just been spayed. She's house trained, as long as she is encouraged to go outside regularly, although we suspect she'd need further house training once in a new environment. She knows basic commands and has a decent recall. She doesn't seem to have an issue with cats, and ideally she'd love the company of another dog.
Fizz is a lovely little dog whose personality is summed up in her name. We're so sad to be in the position of looking for a new home for her, but we'd like her to be in an environment where she can feel comfortable all the time."

If looking for home boarding for your dog please ensure you use a reputable licenced boarder, if not then your dog is at risk.

I won't break the law or put the welfare and safety of any dog at risk - it's such a shame that there are those out there that will to make a few quid and owners that think their holiday is more important than their precious dogs welfare.

There can be no justifiable reason to use electronic shock collars on dogs, please join the campaign to ensure their use is banned in England as promised. Click the link in the following post and it will automatically send an email to your local MP, just by adding your details.

Shock and prong collars are barbaric, cruel and completely unnecessary in the modern world of positive reinforcement dog training.

It's all about the fun, for happy Sit Stay Walkies doggies.... 🐹😁

11/06/2023

IMPORTANT - Due to the forecast this week for high temperatures walks may be disrupted, this includes changes in times or let-outs instead. If you want to cancel any walk or training sessions please let me know asap - there will be no charge for any cancellations due to the weather and any payments already made will be carried over.

Many thanks.

Scott.

ps. Always make sure your dog has access to fresh drinking water... 😂😂

I just asked ChatGPT about the benefits of positive reward training for dogs, couldn't have put it much better myself:

"Positive reward training for dogs offers several benefits:

1. Motivation and Engagement: Positive reward training uses rewards such as treats, praise, and play to motivate dogs. This creates an enthusiastic and engaged learner who actively participates in the training process.

2. Effective Behaviour Modification: Positive reinforcement is highly effective in teaching dogs new behaviours and modifying unwanted ones. By rewarding desired behaviours, you increase the likelihood of those behaviours being repeated.

3. Builds Trust and Stronger Bond: Positive training methods promote a trusting and positive relationship between you and your dog. By using rewards and positive reinforcement, you create a safe and enjoyable learning environment, strengthening the bond between you and your pet.

4. Enhances Communication: Positive training focuses on clear and consistent communication between you and your dog. Dogs learn to associate specific behaviours with rewards, making it easier for them to understand what is expected of them.

5. Promotes Emotional Well-being: Aversive training methods can cause stress, fear, and anxiety in dogs. Positive reward training minimizes these negative emotions, leading to a happier and more confident dog.

6. Encourages Problem-Solving: Positive training encourages dogs to think and problem-solve. They learn to make choices and figure out which behaviours lead to rewards, promoting mental stimulation and independence.

7. Generalizes to Various Situations: Dogs trained using positive methods tend to generalize their learned behaviours to different situations and environments. This means they are more likely to exhibit the desired behaviours in various contexts.

8. Long-lasting Results: Positive reward training creates a strong foundation of learning. Dogs learn willingly and enjoy the training process, leading to more reliable and long-lasting results.

Overall, positive reward training is a humane, effective, and enjoyable approach to dog training that benefits both the dog and the owner."
