This is an urgent notice as you may be affected and will need to take urgent action regarding your dogs registration on Petlog.

George and I have become recently aware that Petlog (owned by the Kennel Club) have lost a significant amount of registration details. Having checked this morning for our own dogs, we have discovered that they have lost ALL our dogs chip registrations! Every single one!

We strongly and urgently recommend that you log into Petlog and check that your dogs details are there.

With so many dog thefts happening at the moment this could not have come at a worst time.

Please do check your dogs registration as soon as you can.

No, this is not a drinks advert, but a cautionary tale!
Bo was a puppy from us last year and his owners have asked us to share his story with you.
The picture below (the can is to demonstrate the pebble size) shows a decorative pebble not untypical of those used on plant pots, flower borders etc. Bo had shown no interest in picking up such things, but on a particular day his owners notice Bo behaving strangely, clearly unwell and being sick.
After a couple of hours with no sign of improvement, Bo was taken to his vet. Knowing his dog well, the owner refused to accept the initial diagnosis of a stomach upset and anti-sickness pills and insisted that further investigation took place. An Xray was agreed, thankfully, and the vet admitted the owner was right to insist, as a stone could be seen. An emergency operation was then carried out to remove the stone which was blocking Bo’s intestine.
The message from this experience is to know your dog and don’t take cursory diagnosis. We are delighted to say, that because of the owners actions, Bo has recovered well from his operation and is back to his usual vibrant self. (Bo as a gorgeous puppy below)

KEEP YOUR DOG SAFE!
Whilst out walking keep you and your dog safe with some simple tips:
• When exercising, always keep your dog close and on a lead unless you
know you are in a safe area.
• Do not engage with strangers especially in cars or vans - several people
have been abused and their dogs taken in this way.
• If possible, exercise in pairs.
• Do keep an eye out for suspicious people or vehicles with no identifying
marks or registration and report these to the police.
• Carry a deterrent such as a r**e alarm and make as much noise as
possible if you feel threatened.
• Always carry your phone.
• Ensure your dogs details are up to date and that you have recent photos
just in case the worst happens.
• And when at home do not leave your dog alone in the garden, keep your
dog supervised at all times.

Many new owners have welcomed a young dog or puppy into their homes for the first time during this pandemic.
Having this new experience of pet ownership, can have both joys and challenges and we have seen in the news and over a few phone calls recently where new owners can unwittingly not managed their pet well.
The pleasures and benefits of walking your dogs for exercise and mental well being are enormous. They become your full time companion, a wonderful thing. We know that many people have a bought a dog as a companion for exercise and walking in the last year, sadly, when it’s a young dog, the long walks you enjoy, may be building problems for your dog in later years.

Over walking a young dog
With the COVID-19 19 restrictions currently in place, it’s easy to get a little carried away with how far you walk your puppy or young dog. Whilst you are enjoying the fresh air and exercise, overwalking your puppy or young dog can be too much for their young limbs and joints. For example, walking a young dog (under a year) for 2 miles each day will put pressure on their immature limbs and skeleton and it’s likely to cause painful problems with arthritis in later years.
The best exercise for young puppies is to play with them in your own environment, building up to short walks allowing them to socialise for 10 to 20 minutes only when they are 3 - 6 months or older. Long walks of two miles or more, depending on the breed, should only be planned once your dog is 9 - 12 months or older and if you need advice, talk to your breeder or trainer.
