No disrespect to livestock farmers, they may know cows and sheep well, but sadly the majority don't understand the dietary requirements of horses. So if you have a paddock please be careful who you take advice from with regards it's management... with the best will in the world they could be causing issues for you and your horse. Horses have evolved on this little island of ours, so a natural grassland with all it's variety, is the ideal 😉

This is very disturbing and is another example of how humans impact wildlife without intention 😥. If you have pets and have to treat them for fleas, please dispose of their fur appropriately. And please keep your dogs out of ponds and waterways. Another study in the UK has found ponds regularly visited by dogs are completely barren of insect life which has a detrimental knock on effect for higher organisms up the food chain 😥

Winter jobs include scrubbing out and refilling the IBC tanks that feed the summer paddock drinker. Treated myself to a long hose so gone are the days of manually lugging water around to refill! 2000 litres is a good workout 😉 💪🏼

Every year thousands of pets will suffer as a result of fireworks being let off. Blue Cross animal hospitals see a marked rise in pets requiring medication during these times.

There seems to be a big PR campaign about ragwort at the moment ...but when it comes to protecting my hay meadow and the horses in my care, I take keeping ragwort in check very seriously. For those who don't know how dangerous it can be please read the following article

There are plenty of other safe wildflowers that are a good nectar source. Twas lovely to see the knapweed and teasel positively buzzing with at least 4 different species of bee 🥰🐝
