For those of you with cats and even dogs, the temperatures over the weekend and going into early next week will be above 30 degrees close to 40! DO NOT walk dogs in this heat. It will not only severely dehydrate them but the damage it can cause to their skin on paws can be life changing!
As for your cats, they will get hot and bothered. But they will find their own place to stay cool. Keep plenty of water bowls around the house, avoid them going outside if you can as it will be so much hotter than the house.
Have a fan on with ice and water in front to cool the rooms down.
If they are struggling to drink. Wet food provides moisturise and hydration so give them wet food little and often even if they don’t usually have it.
Cool mats you can buy from Amazon or local pet shop it keeps cold at all times for pets to cool down.
Things to look out for and if you need to see a vet:
Panting/ fast heavy breathing
In cats - if tongue is out whilst breathing heavily
Not drinking or eating enough - signs of weakness
Unusual behaviour.
Seek advice from a vet.
If you think it’s hot imagine how it is for them.
Remember in the uk we are not used to such high Temperatures so please look after your pets in these times.
