It was late, and I saw a dead cat in the road. I went to get it out of the road and take it to the vet's the next morning so the owner could have closure.

As I went to pick him up, he moved his head slightly and gave out one of the weakest meows I've ever heard. I rushed him home as soon as I could, put him on my bed, and called every vet in the area to find one that was open. I found one and carried him to the car.

He was feather light and had no microchip. The vet determined he was most likely a stray, and an x-ray showed he had two broken legs and a broken rib. Through all of this, he could not stop purring; it was very weak but it was there. The vet said as the bill would be very high and there was no owner, the best thing to do would be to put him to sleep and to leave the room.

I couldn't leave. I decided he needed someone at the end, but then I realized I just couldn't let that happen. I was determined he had an owner who would have been devastated to have seen him like this, and I'd find them. So, with my term's fees for school, I had him fixed. No owner ever answered my ads.

While he was in casts, he was determined to try and follow me, but his legs flung around like paddles on a boat, so he got the nickname Paddlefoot, Pad for short. It stuck. My best friend of nine years now.

If I could say anything, it would be that not all cats die on impact with a car, so please stop if you hit one.

🌈 🐱 I have collected a sadly deceased young female calico cat similar to the one pictured, today 16/01/25 from Elder Grove Conisbrough, backing on from Holywell Road. She is wearing a black flea collar but I am not detecting a chip. Please contact me if you think this could be your cat. She will go to white cross vets 17/01/25. RIP little kitty 🌈

🌈 🐈 Reunited 🌈🐈

I collected a sadly deceased ginger and white cat this afternoon 21/12/24 from the cross roads in Conisbrough (Doncaster Road/Low Road), a young entire male, no chip. Now resting at White Cross vets in Balby (they are open Monday and Tuesday) please contact them if you think this could be your cat, or inbox me a photo of yours. RIP kit x

❗️Please be aware that there is a deceased deer on the main road, on the single lane heading in the direction of Rotherham from Conisbrough, before the speed camera. It’s straight round the bend so please slow down until the council come. RIP 🦌 🌈 (It’s definitely a deer, not a dog)

🌈🐾 A tortie cat - similar markings to this stock cat pictured - was victim of an RTA I believe last night after speaking to a resident, on Doncaster Road, Conisbrough (nr. 174 towards viaduct) the cat is unfortunately in a very bad way so I can’t determine male/female and I didn’t find a chip. The council will be collecting due to the condition. RIP kitty. PLEASE stop if you hit a cat and at the very least, move them off the road.

❗️Please *please* keep your fur babies indoors and safe throughout the Halloween / bonfire night / fireworks period❗️It’s been almost 10 months since our Denny was shot and killed in his own garden on a random day in broad daylight. It’s not just roads you can protect them from, it’s PEOPLE.
