We’ve been making some great progress recently with Penny’s reactivity and loose lead walking! I found that once her reactivity had improved somewhat (and consequently her level of engagement), the lead walking came quite easily 😊

A very successful first session with Penny last weekend! We started working on loose lead walking (which she did so well at) and will also be working on reactivity towards other dogs. Isn’t she gorgeous?!

Very positive third session with the lovely . We’ve been working on his lead reactivity and also started introducing settling behaviours so he’s able to enjoy going to cafés with his owners 🙂

Arriving in a new home is a scary experience for a little pup and it’s easy for them to become overwhelmed. Take things slow with them and allow them to go at their own pace for a little while 🙂

Whilst resource guarding is a natural behaviour among dogs, it can sometimes escalate into aggressive behaviour such as growling, biting or baring their teeth.

Although physically taking the item (or “resource”) away from your dog may seem like the logical thing, this is more likely to make the behaviour worse.

Instead, you want to teach your dog that your presence is not a threat when they have something they deem as high value 🙂

This is 4 month old poodle pup Miranda (isn’t she absolutely adorable?!). Here I am working on building engagement by rewarding her whenever she gives me eye contact. Dropping the treat on the floor forces her to look away so she can then look back up at me. Engagement is such an important foundation for lots of skills including loose lead walking and recall, as well as helping to create a strong bond between you and your dog!
