Lyndsey Canine Coach Reward based training:1-2-1 and group sessions. Pet Gundog advocate, specialising in working breeds. One of the first in the North East.

I have worked with animals my entire life; in the equine industry as pet nutritional advisor and on a game farm for several years prior to focusing solely on dogs in 2012 via a daycare and training centre I opened in partnership with a friend. Since focusing solely on dogs I have gained over 60,000 hours of hands on experience with dogs and the ability to read and understand canine body language

. In addition to this I have worked with hundreds of clients demonstrating a wide variety of issues, both through training classes and private work
I am an ADTB Gold Instructor, GODT member, Gundog Club Instructor and a student with the ISCP. I currently share my home with five dogs; Sprout & Beanie working cockers, Polly a rescue spaniel, Rocco a lab/terrier mix and Elfie an Irish rescue of unknown origin . Sadly in June 2020 I lost my beloved cocker Sweep to canine cancer. She taught me so much in her 11 years and is the reason I have a soft spot for dogs with attitude and their own opinions on how things should be done ! Both Sweep and Polly have worked in the field as gundogs, competed in agility and took part in various training days and demonstrations. Elfie trained towards working trials and recently gained her trick training certificates & R occo enjoyed agility for a short while. Sprout got off to a rocky start but has progressed well through her Gundog training in 2021, reigniting my
Love off cockers so much we added Beanie to the family in July

My training aims/goals for clients are to primarily create a harmonious relationship between dog and owner and to make sure that living with, walking or working your dog is an enjoyable experience not a major stress. Furthermore I adore seeing just how far dogs can go with their training and enjoy activities that were never thought possible. Alongside puppy training and remedial sessions am regularly sought out by owners of 'Pet Gundogs' who have turned a little bit ‘self employed’ and are a danger to themselves out on a regular walk. Giving these dogs a job to do has massive benefits and can completely change your daily exercise routine. No matter how ingrained the behaviour or how shocking you think it is there are always improvements that can be made. Many trainers, myself included have personal experience of struggling with a dog of their own, making human/handler errors therefore I am not here to judge but to help you create a happy life with your dog, whatever their age or breed.

A lovely session with young Freida this morning.
She is managing to proof a lot of her foundation behaviours despite her nose telling her to do otherwise.
She with the distraction of new frost, horses in the next field and sat and watched the hens and pigeons.

Jammy on his ‘place’

The primary use of the board is to help to teach the dog or puppy to sit in the same place, or ‘stay’ depending on which cues you use.
If you haven’t heard of a Place Board before it is a raised platform with a different texture to the surface around you. You can buy specific boards OR a none slip bath step from amazon will suffice.

To begin with, the dog is given very positive associations with being on the board with food lures etc. We can then add a little time and distance and secure that essential sit stay.
I also use the board to introduce early handling by moving the pups left and right from one board to the other, teaching an outrun (send to a board) and perfecting their delivery of retrieves. It gives the dog a base to return too on which they know they always sit.

Pepper helping out in a puppy session today for little Woody.
Woody the is quite a chill little fella (for his breed anyway. He has been working on his leash walking, recall and engagement. Today we looked at teaching how to stop or ‘sit’ at a short distance; encouraged him to bring his retrieves all the way in and proofed these little bits with having another dog around. He also had a peek at the hens and pigeons.
Fab little pup 😍

Privilege to meet this little star at the weekend.
Nova and her family have made a fab start to her training. She loves learning and is very food driven.
In her session introduced a placeboard, practiced some little heel drills and had a look at her retrieve. The whole picture is very lovely and I am looking forwards to helping her on her Gundog journey.

Wondering if Gundog Training is for you?
Want something more than just chasing a ball for your spaniel, Labrador or crossbreed?
This workshop is designed to help you out!
We will cover the basics of gundog training and taking a look at your dogs natural ability to see if he/she could benefit from some Pet Gundog Work.
The workshop is open to any level of training or handler skill and runs once per month. Clients are welcome to attend just one workshop or continue adding to their training via these workshops over the season.

During the adolescent stage our dogs can drive us totallypotty. Most clients are well aware of how time consuming a new puppy can be, but adolescence can make us seriously doubt our training abilities and generally not enjoy our dogs as much as we would like.
Its also common to think that the behaviours your very young puppy exhibits are ‘trained’ - stays close, recalls well, stopped chewing? Then they turn into a teenager...this can be anytime from 6 months ish to 18 months and even 2 years old.
The issues you may have massively vary, just like with human teenagers. Some may go off the rails all together, pushing away from the main care giver specifically. Some are typically a bit more anxious or worried and other are quite headstrong.
The most common reported issues around this time are general exuberant and boisterous behaviour, not coming back when called and failing to respond to training that has previously been taught.
There’s a lot going on in the teenage dog’s mind and body at this time and just like a human teenager, adolescent dogs can be frustrating and on occasion difficult to live with! This workshop offers a relaxed class for adlescent dogs. It is fab to help you either get started with training or refresh areas whihc now need more work.
We will look at the following topics.
How to promote calm and settled behaviour
Improving leash skills
Not lunging/jumping at other dogs and people
Touch training including application and removal of walking equipment .
How to tire their brain not their body
Recall practice
Proofing positions such as sit and down .
All sessions held on site at NE17 7AT

My Story.....

Welcome to my personal training page. A bit about me and my dogs.

I currently share my home with the 4 hooligans above. Sweep a working cocker, Polly a rescue springer/cocker mix, Rocco a lab/terrier mix and Elfie an Irish rescue of unknown origin (likely a collie/lab mix). I also have a weird little cat and a few more horses than one person realistically needs.

Since 2012 I have held classes and private training sessions based in Morpeth but am now able to cover a wider area with freelance training. I am and ADTB Gold Instructor, GODT member, Gundog Club Instructor and a student with the ISCP. I have worked with animals since leaving school; in the equine industry, pet nutrition and on a game farm for several years prior to focusing solely on dogs in 2012.
