Positive, reward based trainer helping dogs and owners since 2011. Variety of options available. One of the first in the North East.
(21)
I have worked with animals my entire life; in the equine industry as pet nutritional advisor and on a game farm for several years prior to focusing solely on dogs in 2012 via a daycare and training centre I opened in partnership with a friend. Since focusing solely on dogs I have gained over 60,000 hours of hands on experience with dogs and the ability to read and understand canine body language
. In addition to this I have worked with hundreds of clients demonstrating a wide variety of issues, both through training classes and private work
I am an ADTB Gold Instructor, GODT member, Gundog Club Instructor and a student with the ISCP. I currently share my home with five dogs; Sprout & Beanie working cockers, Polly a rescue spaniel, Rocco a lab/terrier mix and Elfie an Irish rescue of unknown origin . Sadly in June 2020 I lost my beloved cocker Sweep to canine cancer. She taught me so much in her 11 years and is the reason I have a soft spot for dogs with attitude and their own opinions on how things should be done ! Both Sweep and Polly have worked in the field as gundogs, competed in agility and took part in various training days and demonstrations. Elfie trained towards working trials and recently gained her trick training certificates & R occo enjoyed agility for a short while. Sprout got off to a rocky start but has progressed well through her Gundog training in 2021, reigniting my
Love off cockers so much we added Beanie to the family in July
My training aims/goals for clients are to primarily create a harmonious relationship between dog and owner and to make sure that living with, walking or working your dog is an enjoyable experience not a major stress. Furthermore I adore seeing just how far dogs can go with their training and enjoy activities that were never thought possible. Alongside puppy training and remedial sessions am regularly sought out by owners of 'Pet Gundogs' who have turned a little bit ‘self employed’ and are a danger to themselves out on a regular walk. Giving these dogs a job to do has massive benefits and can completely change your daily exercise routine. No matter how ingrained the behaviour or how shocking you think it is there are always improvements that can be made. Many trainers, myself included have personal experience of struggling with a dog of their own, making human/handler errors therefore I am not here to judge but to help you create a happy life with your dog, whatever their age or breed.

After a fairly chilled evening for the Spaniel Savvy crew; we finished with a bit of steadiness around the chicks, ducks and pigeons.
Some were pretty interested…others wondering what the fuss was about!

Our most recent water training day…pretty much sponsored by seeing as we all used their water dummies!
Well done all; space remaining in the after class for July.

Dog Owners – Please respect the lead
✅ Do check with other owners before letting your dog interact
✅ Do follow the 3 second rule – they can sniff and introduce themselves but after 3 seconds take them away – it's best to keep meetings brief
✅ Do remember that a seemingly friendly dog may lash out if approached when on a lead
❌ Don’t let your dog run over to a dog which is being kept on a lead
❌ Don’t let your dog off the lead if you cannot easily recall them

Puppy Training Workshop
Saturday 8th June. Spaces available.
Puppy workshops are designed to help you to learn how to succeed through those early weeks and months living with energetic puppies - the sharp puppy teeth, the chewing, teething and toilet training etc.
In class we cover a variety of topics about body handling and applying walking equipment.
You will learn with your puppy and teach them basic obedience (sit, down, stay, leave, wait etc) and to walk nicely on a lead, recall when you need them, leave things you don’t want them to have etc. We also cover how to how to prevent and stop undesirable behaviour.

Bit of an HPR fest here this week with Saffron, Arlo & Whiskey.
Saffy is a 7 month old English Pointer just starting out on her training journey.
Whisky is a Hungarian Visla who pops in now and again for some Gundog Training exercises. A super smart and very calm boy he is a pleasure to work with.
Arlo is a German Short Haired Pointer. He had been training with me for a while now; has developed a lot of skills and ‘seems’ to be starting to mature.
All 3 of these dogs fall into the HPR category of Gundog.
HPR is an abbreviation of Hunt Point Retrieve; the three roles these dogs have been bred to carry out. Very useful on moorland and areas where the dog is required to cover a large amount of ground.
These dogs are bred to have a strong prey drive and a keen sense of smell. As a result, they are very energetic and usually need plenty of mental and physical exercise.

Lovely 1-1 this afternoon at with Bronte. She is such a sweetheart and is making a start with her training. Her family are experienced Labrador owners and have done a fab job with her so far.
The old adage of ‘Labs are born half trained etc’ is rarely true these days…but I think this little gal has been here before…

The hens and pigeons are now extremely obliging dog training assistants…running to the fence when they see me with a client for their share of the snacks.
Young Reggie here was pretty cool about them, but it’s not always the case in our first attempt!

Some good work from yesterday.
Its not always plain sailing with him; but always important to remember where we started. Very well done with this fella Eliza.

The 4 week course format allows more scope for building on the foundations exercises and then progression and development for both dog and handler.
Held on private ground across several different areas (outdoor classrooms), the course will offer a relaxed training environment whilst enabling you to build a better understanding of your dog.

Super lad Carson super charging his recall in our Saturday workshop. Quite the big deal for him to be doing so well with an audience of other dogs and people. Recall through Distractions
Second time this year I’ve ‘TP’d’ the classroom to help a tissue gobbler and it’s only 10th Jan. What’s going on dogs 😂 . 10/10 to Betsy for nailing this in her first session. What a Sass Queen 👸 #goldenretriever #retriversofinstagram #goldenretriever #goldenretrievers #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram
Fab Start to the week…lots of spaniels and Pet Gundog work. Squidge & Quinn learning about Flirt Pole training then stop to flush ( a thrown rabbit ball at heel) . Poppy Springer had her first assessment and was a joy to watch. A smart little minx with quite an engine! Nellie Cocker worked on some recall games and ‘stop cue’ to help keep her focused on her human and not other dogs. Stevie Springer aced her loose leash walking and we ran through some exercises to increase her retrieve drive. Irish Doodle Rupert worked on some boundary training, he is growing like a weed!! .Last photo is my cocker Sprout rocking about with a loo roll…just keeping it ‘reel

My Story.....
Welcome to my personal training page. A bit about me and my dogs.
I currently share my home with the 4 hooligans above. Sweep a working cocker, Polly a rescue springer/cocker mix, Rocco a lab/terrier mix and Elfie an Irish rescue of unknown origin (likely a collie/lab mix). I also have a weird little cat and a few more horses than one person realistically needs.
Since 2012 I have held classes and private training sessions based in Morpeth but am now able to cover a wider area with freelance training. I am and ADTB Gold Instructor, GODT member, Gundog Club Instructor and a student with the ISCP. I have worked with animals since leaving school; in the equine industry, pet nutrition and on a game farm for several years prior to focusing solely on dogs in 2012.
