I have come to the extremely hard decision to close Pathfinders. This is a decision that has not been made lightly, I’ve thought long and hard and had many sleepless nights. Pathfinders has been a very successful venture, with many weekends full of trailing, both advertised and private sessions, all filled with fun memories i will treasure. There are afew different reasons that have aided this decision, but the largest concern, is that now my children are both full time school and most sessions are required to be on weekends, I feel I’m not spending enough quality time with them. I’d like to thank all you lovely people for making this year so special, without all of your support Pathfinders wouldn’t have been as successful as it has been! I hope you will all continue to enjoy this amazing sport. There are some wonderful instructors waiting to continue your exciting Mantrailing journeys, I’ll include some links below for our area, or you could simply click the main link below for the Mantrailing Global UK instructors map to take a look! I shall leave the page and group open, should anyone like to utilise it to get together to organise sessions with other instructors, or should you wish to contact me, I will respond as promptly as I’m able!

Introduction sessions are always a favourite of mine, watching the dogs and their handlers catch the bug, having fun and gain in confidence with each trail is really very special and rewarding! Spaniels with their endless energy and enthusiasm are also such fun, so to have 3 on one session, with a singing Spanish Hunting Hound really made my day!

Catch up clips take 2 at the beautiful Bradley Woods!The damp chilly windy early morning meant it was very quiet in the woods, a great opportunity to work scent movement in the wind for our newer dogs and as the weather became kinder, a great opportunity to proof learned skills with the many peopley distractions! One dog even had fresh warm sausage rolls as a mouthwatering distraction! Tough day bossed!

It’s been a rather busy month, unfortunately I’ve been rather slow on the updates! First of our catch up clips, a session of dogs, who were all on their 2nd ever session! These 3 stunning big dogs behaved and trailed beautifully! Well done teams!

Mantrailing is an exciting and addictive dog sport, where dogs are trained, to use their amazing noses, to follow and find a specific human. This amazing activity is physically low impact, but mentally stimulating, therefore being inclusive, from puppies to retirees, of any breed! Suitable for dogs with low confidence, or reactivity issues, as dogs are worked individually and at their own pace!

Another session from High Wood, Sleaford, where all the teams seemed to be working on something new! First time split trails, delayed starts, scent article starts and a very first aged trail! A very challenging session, yet all of the dogs without exception shone! I’d also like to thank our trail layers for some brilliant hiding, getting down and dirty laying on the floor behind logs, down dry ditches and even disappearing INTO a bush!

A great mixed session at High Wood, Sleaford. We welcomed a couple of teams back after a break, or their agility season, with another couple of teams continuing proofing current starts before progressing, with split trails, decoys and a backtrack. All dogs worked super hard and with such enthusiasm, their human halves of the teams couldn’t be happier!

November dates were due out today, unfortunately I’m now having to start over. One of our woodland venues is connected to Chambers Farm Woods, and has had confirmed cases of canine seasonal illness, with 3 dogs that had recently walked there still currently under veterinary care.
The cause of Canine Seasonal Illness is thought to be infection from harvest mites, as dogs effected have often been infested by these tiny orange insects, although other theories are being explored. As very little is known about this illness and with symptoms being initially similar to general tummy upsets, it can be hard for vets to make a definitive diagnosis, dogs can very quickly become dehydrated and in some cases this illness can prove fatal, although treated promptly prognosis is usually good.

Another brilliant session from last week! I’m afraid I missed “National Black Dog Day”, but by coincidence, 3 of 4 dogs on session were black! We had a dynamic sister duo from either end of the mantrailing spectrum, the super enthusiastic Rosie focusing her energy and finally brand new team CaneCorso, who started the session very unsure and nervous and ended confidently using her nose and trotting around to find the strange human, that kept running away with her treats! All such unique dogs making this session diverse and super interesting!

We had a great time at a great venue last week, where 5 teams all took advantage of a really breezy day to give themselves a challenge! Wind movement can blow scents from the trail and the hidden person, making following a scent potentially tricky, as this blown scent can get stuck within structures, or stick to damp trees, or floor, or create alternative routes from the ground scent. Each handler did really well interpreting their dogs body language and allowing the dogs to choose their path. Line handling was also a challenge, due to the dogs quickly changing direction, lots of quick decisions, but no slack lines! Well done all!

Having been ill recently and I’ve found myself behind with our session updates and photos, so big thanks to my patient trailers! I’ve sent a lot of our trailers their videos, but couldn’t miss mentioning these two September superstars. Unfortunately, we found ourselves on a small session of just 2 dogs, but luckily we had plenty of humans to handle, hide and remain with our resting dog. What we lacked in numbers, we most certainly made up for in enthusiasm, keeping this small group super fun! The strong breeze and unusually busy venue made for challenging trails, but neither dog let this phase them, they absolutely smashed their own individual goals. Then we enjoyed analysing trails that the dogs have followed blown scent, giving us some interesting insight into how they themselves worked to find a lost trail, when the wind suddenly dies down leaving us a fair way from foot fall. Brilliant determined teams! This weekends sessions will be uploaded later today.

To say I was happy with these two dogs during last weeks session is a massive understatement! Each have come on in leaps and bounds! Team Hagrid especially absolutely smashed their scent article starts! Completing trails with the usual can do attitude is testament to the work his owners put into his foundations! Cannot wait to see what the future holds for these two wonderful dogs!

Unfortunately the unexpected heat has delayed our trailing fun this week, so I thought I’d cheer us up with these photos from a recent session!
I’m forever weather watching, keeping our dogs safe is always my top priority! Id like to thank all my clients for their patience and support this week!

Better late than never, this session may have been small, with only the two dogs, but it was BIG on talent! Team Shepherd have worked HARD on building confidence in decision making and during these trails they really shone! Team Spaniel also outdid themselves completing some spectacular trails with unwavering determination! We beat the heat and had great fun!

What a lovely woodland session, 4 teams took to the trails, nice split session made up of 2 newer teams and 2 more experienced pairs. Everyone was working on something different, giving us lots to discuss! Such fun and scent geekery we had! Well done all teams, you all were exceptional! x

Here’s 6 dogs from a recent session, all continuing their Mantrailing journeys! Mantrailing is completely dog lead! By equipping the dogs with the tools to continue building their motivation, to work through the hard questions and challenging areas on the trails, we proof behaviours and reinforce them positively! Boosting confidence in the dogs own decision making and having fun in the process!

Wonderful private session, the first of many, I’m sure, at this beautiful, quiet woodland location close to Sleaford! All of the dogs had their own individual goals to work on and absolutely tried their hearts out! Noses and brains well worked! All teams proved to excel today! As always I’m so looking forward to seeing these teams progress! x

Next up from this weekends fun, was a private introduction session, heavy on the German Shepherds, can you spot the odd one out? Team husky was not going to be outdone by her german friends and decided to show them what she was made of! Not only were all these dogs super enthusiastic to learn, but I have to take my hat off to the extremely dedicated human halves of the team, who battled Lincolnshires flatness and really brought a fun vibe, hopping down dry ditches, throwing themselves on the floor, into hedges and risking alien abduction hiding within the edges of the corn field! *Gut gemacht!*

Session 2 of 4 from this weekend, at the lovely shaded Bradley woods, near Grimsby! We had a day of perfecting starts, testing our line handling skills, proofing scent taking and first time delayed and scent article starts! So much to think about and little changes to progression plans. In awe of all of these dogs!

Wow, what a busy weekend! 3 days and 4 sessions! First up, Friday saw us again at the hide and seek paradise that is Paintball Challenge - Scunthorpe! Brilliant session of 5 dogs with their own goals to work towards, from either end of the spectrum, some building confidence and motivation and others calm and focus, all doing fantastically well!
