It doesn’t always go to plan ( very rarely) but this intro to little memory retrieves wasn’t too bad

A little bit of training in the back field before breakfast

You’ll have to take my word for it but this was a sit at distance to a hand signal
Using less food, just need to use less hand signals
Just some positions, starting to hold off a little bit with the food and making my arm/hand signals smaller on the stuff he knows
Introducing a “flat” command I would guess because he’s a heavy big puppy that he will make the weight to be a blood donor when he gets older. So we will work on this until he puts up with nurses working around him
Crates used correctly are one of the best management tools for puppies.
Chance has been out of his for a couple of hours and been pottering about the garden with me and his mates. Now he can have his lunchtime feed and I can make my own and watch a bit of Netflix in peace knowing he won’t be chewing or digging holes or toileting where he shouldn’t.
Puppies need to sleep a lot and in a busy household that can be difficult again a crate covered over helps that happen.
Using a flirt pole to play and train the dog to respond when he’s in drive. Working on leave it, sit and heel. Then back to play. It doesn’t have to be a flirt pole , tug ropes. Balls, frisbees all work the same.
This isn’t a pretty demonstration of obedience but the beginning of a process.
My lack of technological know how is astounding! I reach new lows with such ease🤣🤣
Just got this through from Simon the dogs owner. Both dogs come to classes at different levels but this off lead heeling together like that is lovely to see. Well done Darcy your hard work is paying off.
2nd session on putting his paws on the box ( it’s part of a heel work exercise).
Stood up instead of sat down for the retrieve and he coped with me looming over him fine (I will still sit down on occasion just for fun and reassurance). Starting to ask for a sit at heel and restraining him a little bit before I send him. Asking for a sit on delivery and making sure he holds it until I take it.
Tom and Gus, really impressed with Toms work with his pup. Spaniels are notoriously bad at walking at heel. They find it hard to concentrate on anything other than hoovering up scent. What you see here is pretty damn good for a 5 month old pup
Ali and Beauen showing what good consistent handling from a young age can produce
Setter retrieving style as opposed to a lab🤣🤣
It doesn’t always go to plan! The barking dogs are a neighbours guests dogs. It was enough to worry the pup and distract him from the job but he got there in the end
