In dappled woods where shadows play,
Amidst the quiet of the day,
There dwells a creature, stout and wise,
A living treasure 'neath the skies.
The badger, noble in its stride,
In Earth's embrace, it does reside.
A guardian of the underground,
A wonder in its world renowned.
In fastidious grooming grace,
It keeps its fur and dwelling place,
A model of hygiene and care,
A marvel of the wild out there.
Through history's annals they have roamed,
A living legend, not unknown.
In folklore, tales of black and white,
They shimmer in the moon's pale light.
With strength and claws, they excavate,
The earth itself, they dominate.
Creating burrows, tunnels deep,
Where secrets and their young they keep.
Their legacy on this green Earth,
Is one of value, priceless worth.
A role in nature, finely tuned,
Their presence in the woods festooned.
Yet, persecution they endure,
From those whose motives are impure.
For sport or cull their lives are stolen,
By those whose hearts with darkness are beholden.
Oh badger, in your black and white,
You are a symbol of the fight,
To cherish all that's wild and free,
To let them roam, as they should be.
At Stand with Badgers we believe ,
In the splendour of badgers wild and free,
In their unique abilities we find,
Vast treasure of the natural kind.
