We enjoyed a short 1.5 mile winter walk around the grounds of National Trust Seaton Delaval Hall today.

Dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds and gardens here and there is also a dog friendly area inside the Brewhouse Cafe or takeaway / outdoor seating.

I love the grounds here as they are pretty varied - there are mirror cubes hidden in the woods, little water features, more formal gardens, picturesque views and stunning trees.

We spotted a Robin and a Pheasant on our walk today and it was SO nice to see the first signs of spring with spring bulbs peeking through the herbaceous borders.

Seaton Delaval Hall is also home to the UK's largest colony of Pipistrelle Bats 🦇

If you're visiting without a dog / someone doesn't mind waiting outside with them, there's a fantastic playground and the hall/house is worth a look around with a giant mirror ball, spooky basement, upside down room, indoor theatre and more.

We will be back in spring/summer to enjoy the rhododendrons and laburnum arch 🌸

Fozzy enjoyed a lovely walk along Newbiggin beach today and loved it!

This is a fab walk with loads of dog bins and step free access onto the beach.

It's around 2km each way from Church Point to Needle's Eye and you can stick to the flat surfaced path or go down onto the beach.

We parked at Church Point Car Park just behind the Maritime Centre (it's free). There were lots of spaces today. NE64 6DN

Dogs are allowed on the full beach during the winter months but only part of it in the summer - check the signs on arrival which will keep you right.

There is a free drinking water fountain with a spout at dog level as well as human level on the prom (outside bertorellis) which was great. I do appreciate water bowls being left out by businesses but sometimes they can look a bit grim if they've been out a while. This was much better.

Lots of dog friendly cafes/pubs in Newbiggin including Cee Jays and Artisan Tea Room.

Happy 2nd birthday to our beautiful boy Fozzy

Fozzy loves bacon sandwiches on a weekend, meeting other dogs, when grandma comes to visit, crunching raw chicken feet, sniffing grass constantly, fully investigating the shopping when we bring it in, when we first come down in the morning, snuggling in when we are having breakfast or at night, twerking, cheese tax, performing his repertoire of tricks, watching TV and films with us, proper cuddles, jumping on my knee at my desk at 3pm when I'm finishing up work, chewing his yak/olive stick, playing fetch, when the kids come home from school, the odd occasion he is allowed upstairs, sharing dad's banana and when Ollie comes to visit.

We took Fozzy for a Halloween walk around .perrow.arboretum today and I only managed one photo 😬 AND he's not even looking at the camera. He just spends all of his walks with his nose to the ground and rarely looks up 😂

Read our guide to visiting here: https://www.northeastfamilyfun.co.uk/2023/10/thorp-perrow-in-autumn.html

Nevermind though, he had a lush time walking around the woods and arboretum and getting strokes from kids (who were all super polite and asked if they could stroke him first).

Dogs on leads are welcome along all of the walkways, including the Halloween trail. They aren't permitted in the playground, animal areas or tearoom although there is quite a bit of covered seating (it was super busy today and we couldn't find a free table so ended up trying to eat a pizza standing up whilst holding the dog which was tricky but we managed).

A fabulous dog walk - very picturesque but definitely one you need your wellies for and a bath for the dog once you're home.

Check out this dog friendly hotel in Seahouses which has recently been refurbished. Dog friendly bar and restaurant too - ideal for stopping off when walking along the coast to Bamburgh 👇

The Beach House Hotel

Ad The Beach House Hotel is the sister hotel to the popular Beadnell Towers and has just undergone a major refurbishment.

See more in our full video review / tour here; https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cy5xHEet7rw/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Located in Seahouses with beautiful sea views (and a handy free car park for residents), it is ideally located for exploring this part of the Northumberland Coast.

It's super dog friendly with dogs welcome in some of the rooms (some have enclosed private terraces) and the bar/restaurant too.

Family rooms sleep up to 4. Our room rate tonight is £169 for up to 4 guests including a dinner allowance of £35 per adult (with a complimentary glass of fizz) and breakfast for all.

Guests also receive complimentary access to the Ocean Club pool, spa and gym next door which is a nice perk of staying here (however we have just popped along and it was super busy / there was at least an hour's wait so we are giving it a miss this time).

I think this is super reasonable for this part of Northumberland over half term!

Will share more about the restaurant later, it's open to non-residents too and well located to pop in for a meal after visiting nearby Bamburgh Castle.

I've been really impressed so far, the staff have been super welcoming and the hotel is spotless with lots of nice little touches including sweets for the kids & local shortbread for us on check in.

A few people didn't realise you can take your dog inside The Sun Inn Pub at Beamish.

It's super cosy, especially when they have the fire lit and ideally located around half way round the circular walk around the full site so a nice little stop off.

And yes they serve beer, as well as a couple of bar snacks too.

Menu and photos from last November.

🍁 Belsay Hall Dog Walk & Cafe 🍁

Belsay Hall is a lovely place for a short dog walk. Dogs are welcome on leads in the grounds and gardens.

Read our full guide to visiting here: https://www.northeastfamilyfun.co.uk/2023/10/belsay-hall-playground-cafe-review.html

It's a 1/2 mile walk from the entrance to the castle/new cafe and although only short, the walk is super varied and takes you through formal gardens, quarry gardens and ancient woodland. It's fantastic with lots of different smells. I think Fozzy has been four times now and always enjoys this route.

There is now a brand new cafe next to the castle which is dog friendly inside and out. There are dog water bowls and waste bins outside and the staff were giving out complimentary dog treats today too.

The coffee and cake were both excellent and if you're an English Heritage renewal member, flash your card for a 10% cafe discount.

Dogs are not permitted inside the hall, castle or playground but it's still worth a visit even if you can't explore these spaces.

Check their website for opening hours/postcode.

🐾 Dog friendly - dogs are welcome in all areas except the pig sty
☀️ Kids go free and adults are £7.50
🐷 The most adorable 3 week old piglets
🪿 Rare breed geese
🐴 A range of rare breed heavy horses to meet. The centre is a charity and works on the conservation of heavy horses
🚜 It's a working farm
🥧 The most amazing cafe with a fantastic homemade selection including pies, quiches, sausage rolls and scotch eggs. Honestly so good and extremely reasonable! Lunch for 5 of us was just over £25 today. Bargain! (You can visit the cafe without visiting the rest of the farm if you're just passing and fancy a bite to eat - the money you spend here goes towards the horses)
🐴Horse and carriage rides are available on selected dates for a small charge

🐾 Cresswell Towers 🐾

Fozzy has had a lovely week at Cresswell Towers. Dogs are welcome in an area of the bar / restaurant on site and Cresswell Beach (dog friendly year round) is at the end of the street. He's had fun swimming in the North Sea - rather him than me!

Other dog friendly days out we've had in Northumberland this week:

🐴 Hay Farm Heavy Horse Centre - dogs welcome in all areas except the Pig sty. Gorgeous dog friendly cafe with homemade pies, quiches and sausage rolls

☕ Lavender Tearooms & Village Shop at Etal Garden. One of the best tea rooms in Northumberland! They have complimentary dog treats and a dog water station

🏰 Etal Castle, Twizell Castle & Norham Castle. All free and dog friendly but do note Twizell Castle is in a field of sheep & there is a stile to cross

🏮 Ad Woodhorn Museum - dogs are welcome in the outbuildings , grounds and outdoor area of the cafe. Fozzy loves coming here for a good sniff around.

🌳 Ad Wallington NT - dogs are welcome in all areas except the main house. There are lots of lovely walks and free activities including yoga, cloud gazing, tennis, acorn and spoon races and den building. Dogs are welcome in the tearoom and they have a pizza truck and ice cream parlour too

🐟 Amble - we had a lovely walk around Amble harbour with some fish and chips one night

🍕 The Mason's Arms at Warkworth is dog friendly and in the summer months their beer garden is transformed into a pizza shack in the evening. It's fab! They have lots of dog water bowls and sell doggy ice cream in various flavours too

(ad) Dog Friendly Ripon

We spent the day in Ripon yesterday and I wanted to share just how dog friendly it is. The city has its own scheme with dog friendly stickers in windows so it's easy to see which businesses allow you to visit with your dog.

Some of the dog friendly venues we visited include:

🐶 Ripon Scenic Canal Cruises (dog sail for free)
🐶 The Little Ripon Bookshop
🐶 Karma
🐶 Ripon Spa Gardens (there is often live music here in the summer)
🐶 Canal walk
🐶 The One Eyed Rat Pub
🐶 Coffee at Number 10
🐶 Silva Bells Restaurant

We didn't have Fozzy with us yesterday due to the 27C and thunderstorms forecast but we will definitely take him again. For a list of dog friendly venues, check out the Visit Ripon website: https://visitripon.co.uk/directory/dog-friendly/

You could also visit Fountains Abbey, the Himalayan Gardens while you are there.

🐾Low Force Waterfall - A Short Dog Walk 🐾

Park at Bowlees Visitor Centre (DL12 0XE) which is FREE but donations are much appreciated.

From here it's a short (600m) walk to the waterfall. I would say the route is accessible - there are steps from the car park up to the visitor centre but I believe accessible parking is available to avoid these.

The waterfall is stunning and one of those you hear before you see. It's so powerful and was formed over 295 million years ago through molten rock.

Located in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and standing at 18ft tall, it's breathtaking and a lovely place to sit and take it all it or admire from Wynch Bridge which was built in 1830 and has big signs saying only one person can cross at a time. The bridge is made from timber and wrought iron hangers.

Dogs are welcome but do keep them on a lead - you pass through fields of livestock and don't want them to enter the water. Humans shouldn't enter the water either - there are stong currents and sadly, a few swimmers have drowned here over the years.

Back at the visitor centre, there are toilets, a cafe with drinks, homemade cakes and ice creams and a gift shop as well as lots of walking information and exhibits. It's dog friendly and there is plenty of seating inside and out.

You can also walk in the other direction to Gibson's Cave which is also worth a visit (also around 600m from the car park so not far). You can access the streams along this bit to paddle/swim too. Or if you fancy a longer stroll, you can walk to High Force from here.

A gorgeous place for a picnic / waterfall walk / dog friendly cafe and a fab FREE day out. The visitor centre is accessible by bus - the number 73 bus from Barnard Castle stops outside Mon-Fri.

We visited on a hot and sunny sunday morning and it was pretty quiet - nobody else was in the cafe and the car park had plenty of space. We did see couple of people at the waterfall but it certainly wasn't packed.

(ad) Fozzy is having THE best weekend in Barnard Castle.

We are staying at Cummin's & Going's Cottage which sleeps 4 + dog and is in a super central location with lots of Riverside & Woodland walks from the doorstep.

Today we have visited Eggleston Hall Gardens - their tearoom is super dog friendly with a dog station (complimentary treats and water bowls for you to take to your table) & doggy ice cream for sale. Beautiful gardens.

Then it was a visit to the actual castle in Barnard Castle which is also dog friendly and had lots of rabbit holes for Fozzy to stick his head down before we found some shade in a dog friendly sangria bar in town.

Ended the day with a walk through Flatts Woods and a little paddle in the river.

What a day 🐾🐾🐾

(ad) We're staying at Dexters Den Northumberland with Coastal Cottages Northumberland Ltd this week.

It's a beautiful luxurious cottage in the heart of Amble (across the road from Spurelli) and Fozzy has been made to feel very welcome with his own tennis ball and doggy biscuit to welcome him.

They also provide collars with holiday contact details on (a few different sizes) for extra peace of mind, a dog towel, poo bags, water and food bowls and a booklet full of dog friendly places to visit and dine too. Oh and they have that all important enclosed garden straight from the kitchen.

We're heading out to try the Amble Bord Waalk Sculpture Trail today and will obviously be popping into Urban Pooch in the Harbour Pods and by Geordie Bangers for a sausage 😍

Prices are super reasonable and from £150 per night for this cottage (it sleeps up to 8). Use code NEFF10 on the Coastal Cottages Northumberland website for a 10% discount.

(ad) Fozzy has had a lovely day at NT Cragside today.

We walked around 5km around the estate today enjoying the rock garden, rhododendrons, the pinetum and gorge walk to the Power House.

We stopped for lunch in the tea room which is dog friendly inside and out. We decided to sit on the picnic tables by the lake today though as the weather was beautiful.

Dogs on leads are welcome in most areas at Cragside with the main exception being inside the house. We found dog water bowls in the main areas as well as plenty of bins.

Fozzy had a lush day ❤️

🐾 Jubilee Bark 🐾

We've been to the free dog park at Alexandra Park in Cramlington today. It's fab! You can't book it, just turn up and read the rules. There may / may not be other dogs in there.

For a free dog park, it's a decent size and there is enough space to have a decent run about. Fozzy met and played with 4 other dogs today and had a lovely time 🐾

As well as the dog park, there is a brand new adventure playground which looked brilliant and includes a double pendulum cliff hanger zip wire where kids can race against each other.

There is a smaller enclosed playground for younger children, a skate park, plenty of grass, bowling green, picnic tables, sensory garden & tennis / basketball courts too.

Please do not park in residential streets. Use postcode NE23 6EL for a free car park or you can reach by public transport to Cramlington.

The dog park location (next to the skate park) and the car park are circled on the last image.

Thanks Cramlington Town Council for the investment ❤️
