10/10 day today Dog Splash highly recommend. Not sure who enjoyed it more.. me or Max 😂😂
I talk a lot about how it only takes 1 bad interaction to mess up your dog’s training. Now that could be a dog interaction gone wrong, a person unknowingly scaring your dog, or like me, accidentally throwing a ball in your dogs face after spending months of training showing him that retrieving is fun! Luckily this mistake was quite easy to fix, however if some of these mistakes happen at crucial times in your dog’s development then the fix might not be so simple. Take your time when introducing your dog to new places, people and animals. It’s much easier to prevent fear/bad experiences, rather than spending months helping your dog to overcome them 👌🏻
There are so many times when training your dog that you need to get your timings right, do something in the right moment, or say something exactly when it needs to be said. But sometimes, your dog just needs you to do nothing, say nothing and just let them ride it out. If your dog is anything like Dora then moments like getting out of the car or leaving the house are absolute chaos! And the problem is, if we continue on with a walk, or an activity in those moments, we are just rewarding the chaos! Take a moment to slow things down, let your dog calm themselves down, and then go about your day or your walk. See the difference in your dogs ability to control themselves. You’ll also see that each time you do this, your dog will take less and less time to control themselves and they will understand that chaos gets them no where, but calm gets them everywhere. Give it a try and let us know how you get on ☺️#chocolatelabrador #impulsecontroldog #cratetraining #doingnothingdogtraining #labradorpuppytraining
Training should be effective, and enjoyable! The pure joy that comes from helping your dog overcome their struggles is an incredible feeling. But the only way to get there… is to start! #frenchbulldogtraining #behaviouraltraining #dogtrainingtips #frenchbulldog
To say I love my pet is an understatement ❤️❤️
Amazing progression from all dogs in just 3 weeks!!! Covering lead work with distractions, some new skills to prevent and teach your dog not to jump up on owners as well as others, play (an overlooked and underused part of training) and handling - crucial to ensuring you are keeping your dog as safe and healthy as possible 👌🏻👌🏻
Sounds simple right? That’s because it is!!! One of the reasons your dog is pulling is due there the history it has got them in the past. They want to get to something, they pull to get there and you let them! It doesn’t matter whether it’s a bush, a person or a lamppost! So in your dog’s mind, that pulling or tension equals a reward! Now in order to change your dog’s habit, you need to prevent them from getting the reward, for example, getting to sniff the lamppost. It doesn’t really matter which way you do it, whether you change direction, stop walking or turn into them to disrupt their path. The important part is no matter what, you have to do SOMETHING! And you have to be CONSISTENT! Sometimes allowing them to pull and sometimes asking them to walk nicely is just confusing your dog. So every time that lead goes on, ask your dog for the same thing.. every time! Now we can reward what we do want instead, and that’s them walking nicely by your side 👌🏻 rewarding the good helps them understand what it is you want and helps enforce the behaviour while it’s becoming their new habit. Make sure the reward is something your dog sees as valuable and don’t remove the reward until the new habit is fully formed 👌🏻👌🏻
A great session with 7 month old Bonnie here. No this does not mean she is “cured”. Unwanted habits take time and consistency to change. Just like us when we are trying to create new habits, it does not just happen over night. We have to work at them everyday for them to become part of our new routine. If you’re struggling with jumping up or any other unwanted behaviours, we can help ☺️ #vizslapuppy #vizslatraining #puppytraining #westerhamdogs
