Rupert also runs regular rider clinics in jumping and flat work Owner Rupert Humphreys began his riding career at a young age coming up through Pony Cub and the hunt field and on to win in Area Championships One Day Event on his 6yr old cob cross Khan. Khan had come to Ru from the hunting field as a 3 year old and ended his career at Advanced level British Eventing having qualified for the British
Championships at Gatcombe. Khan provided Rupert a huge amount of experience and empathy as a rider as he was not a straight forward ride, he could do a spectacular “Levarde” in the dressage if the pressure got too intense. Ru learned very quickly how to assess his horse’s mood and be sympathetic in order to get the best out of him. In the early years of his career as a rider, Ru was supported and influenced by the highly acclaimed German Dressage trainer Michael Beining who helped him through a string of horses of all levels and abilities. In 2000 Michael took Ru to Germany with him to train further and where he was given the invaluable opportunity to further develop his skills riding Grand Prix trained horses under the German “Scales of Training Philosophy”. In 2001 Ru went to work for Lynne Crowden, owner of the highly successful and renowned Woodlander Stud, as a work rider backing and riding quality young sport horses and further enhancing his skill set. Today, Ru trains regularly with Team GB dressage rider Hayley Watson-Greaves and hones his jumping skills with eventer and trainer Simon Jobbins. Ru’s quiet mild manner coupled with his empathy and ability to see and think things through from the horse’s perspective is the corner stone of his success in backing horses. Ru will take the time each individual needs to work through from being virtually unhandled in some cases, to accepting a person on its back. This is done through an intuitive individual process of one-to-one lunging, building to getting on and eventually riding. It is the one-to-one element that is so unique to Rupert as he builds and develops trust in each and every horse he works with until it reaches a point that it allows each step of the process to continue without fear or worry. After backing the ridden work and training begins, it is at this point that Rupert will gently and sensitively take the horse out of its comfort zone to broaden its experiences and confidence. We are very fortunate to be situated in the heart of beautiful countryside with access to miles of off road hacking through a working woodland and open spaces where the horses are gradually introduced to such things as wildlife, pheasants, other livestock, and logging. The result is a horse that is happy and mentally well balanced enough to accept leadership with kindness providing long term rideability. Ru also runs regular show jumping clinics here at the farm as well as individual or small group lessons.

Super proud of client Sue Box and her horse HS Emerillon who have had a cracking year so far. In June they had a very successful outing at the Arabian Dressage Championships and last weekend Emey completed his first FEI Endurance event finishing 4th . HS Emerilion was backed by Rupert here at Castle Farm and has since been quietly and considerately brought on by Sue. Well done Sue and Emey!

Yet another successful day with the Elite Foal Registration Tour. So lovely to see so many friends, old and new and some super super foals. The heartbreakers of the day have to be the two pony foals that were not only absolutely adorable but also a little bit cheeky, as is the job of a pony! Thank you all so much for coming along and bringing your wonderful foals. Congratulations to the owners of this years Champions, we are chuffed that once again we have the Champion Event Foal, high five Rupert Humphreys! Huge thank yous have to be give to the backstage crew, my partner Robert Pitt who not only strimmed mowed trimmed and repaired all over the place but also took all these photos and videos. Also thanks to Mo Humphreys for manning the tea coffee and cake department and Joe Moore for being chief sausage supervisor. Thank you again to the team from Elite Foals for yet another super show and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
