Meet Texas!!! He’s a bay, grade gelding, 15.3 h, and around 8 years old. No maintenance, no health issues, no injuries, no special feed. Currently on pasture and hay and has maintained weight well.
Tex is fast! He’s learned barrels and poles the past 2 years and excels at the pole pattern. But he will need more work to be a finished barrel/pole horse. He was used in goat tying clinic and lives with goats, cats, and our dog. He was the Peewee Champion in barrels in the URBA Barrels and Bulls Series in 2021. He rode trails at Pierce Creek in May. He went to Woodbine Saddle Days in June and adapted well to the games. He rode in a parade in July, the noise and traffic didn’t bother him.
He has a sweet disposition, he's friendly and smart. He follows us around and is super easy to catch and saddle. He picks up his feet and stands well for the farrier. My daughter lunged him and did ground work regularly this summer and was teaching him ground tying too. She used him in a Barrels and Poles series this summer, they consistently placed well even though she was one of the younger riders.
He was fancy broke when we bought him 1 ½ year ago. He could side pass, yield hindquarters and forequarters, collect at all gaits, ride off leg pressure, etc. He would need a refresher on these things.
Tex has taken some advantage of us being first time horse owners. He has crow hopped when my daughter is on him and we have not identified why. He resists loading sometimes. He sometimes dances around when tied, usually when other horses are near. He lives on our property without other horses and we wonder if he gets separation anxiety. When he's with other horses, he gets along very well with them, middle of the herd kinda horse.
Tex would be best fit as a performance horse where he is consistently worked. Despite the photos of a youth rider on him, an older rider or adult would be ideal.
Vet checks are welcome at your expense. We have his vet records for the last couple years. Current
