❤️ Beau and Hazel living the high life ❤️
Lovely to receive this photo of handsome ‘Jupiter’ who was from Callisto’s 2022 litter. Look how grown up he is now, looking just like his dad, Raven, with his beautiful colouring. ❤️🐰 ❤️
Happy 2nd birthday to Storm. The ‘runt’ from Callisto’s first litter but has now grown into a strong, handsome hare. ❤️🐰❤️
Every hare enjoyed some fruit tree twigs this morning. They are all looking smart in their thick winter coats. This is the time of year that we’d normally be getting ready for the arrival of new babies but not this year. Although I did manage to find 5 🌟 homes for last years litter, it wasn’t easy and so I made the decision to not breed the hares this year. I will definitely miss not having little ones about but I won’t miss the stress of finding good homes! ❤️🐰❤️
Happy Chinese New Year!
And it’s the year of the rabbit! ❤️ 🐇 🐰❤️
Merry Christmas every bunny ❤️🐰❤️
Thought I’d share with you my hare/rabbit related finds today! A beautiful Christmas tree ornament and a feed/water bowl that was only £1 in the charity shop! 🐰❤️🐰
The Belgian hares are not particularly bothered by the cold weather. The coldest it’s got here has been -6 degrees and yes they were happily sat out in it! Like us, they keep warmer if they’re active so I’ve been encouraging them to move around their enclosures by scattering their pellets and veg around rather than placing it in their bowls.
❤️🐰❤️
I am in a constant battle with this young lady over straw in her kennel! So every evening I put a few handfuls of straw into her kennel and overnight she will remove it all. It will be scattered around her enclosure, wet and soiled by morning. Although she is perfectly adapted to the cold, I like the idea that she is able to sit upon dry, warm straw if she chooses to. The boys love the straw in their huts and are snuggled down in it when the weather is bad. So last night I put in a whole bag of straw into her kennel and this is how I found her this morning! I may have found the answer! It seems that the sheer amount of straw for her to ‘remove’ overnight was too overwhelming and she finally left it in her kennel where it belongs! 🤷♀️🤦♀️ ❤️🐰❤️
I wanted to share with you the unusual markings on Raven’s coat as he sheds out the last of his summer fur! ❤️🐰❤️
Check out Beau (one of this years babies) all grown up and enjoying his first Halloween 🎃🐰❤️
Happy Halloween from the MoonGazer Belgian hares ❤️🐰❤️
Dandelion leaves 🍃 for the terrific trio. All looking stunning in their winter coats. Callisto (main pic) Raven (top right) and their son Storm (bottom right) ❤️🐰🐰🐰❤️
I was kindly donated some apple tree branches so the hares are happy 😊
Look at handsome Jupiter enjoying his freedom with his people 😍
How is everyone and their hares after those scorching temperatures in the uk? 🌞
Here’s my three this morning. Relieved, like me, for an overcast 21 degree day. The extreme heat did worry me as rabbits are not able to sweat to release heat from their bodies hence why they live underground in the wild. My 3 enclosures are three quarters shade and I hosed down the ground in there twice during the hottest part of the day. They were provided with frozen water bottles which none of them chose to lay against but the bottles cool the air around them and of course they had plenty of water available. I’m pleased to say they coped better than I thought and I shall be asking them for tips next time we get a heatwave as I couldn’t cope and I don’t even have a fur coat! 🤦♀️
Callisto investigating the latest frozen bottle that appeared in her enclosure! ♥️🐰♥️
Handsome Beau ♥️🐰♥️
If you own rabbits then it’s not unusual to find water bottles in a drawer in your freezer at this time of year! I put a frozen water bottle into the shaded part of the hares enclosures daily and they can then choose to lay against it or near it. ♥️🐰♥️
Jupiter really is a stunning lad 😍
Lovely to receive these photos of the handsome ‘Jupiter’ enjoying some freedom in the cool of the evening. ♥️🐰♥️
With 30 degree days now, Raven is the king of keeping cool. He stays on his cool paving slabs in the shade during the hottest part of the day and then chills in his (self dug) mud dips in the cooler evening. 😎 🐰
Just received this lovely video of ‘Beau’. Having settled beautifully into his new home. ❤️🐰❤️
And then there were none! Hazel has now gone to his furever home. Have a wonderful life sweet boy ❤️🐰❤️
Farewell to little ‘Rowan’. Off to pastures new. Have a good life handsome boy. ❤️🐰❤️
❤️ 12 weeks old ❤️
Rowan and Hazel are the last of the 2022 MoonGazer Belgian hare litter and are still looking for their furever homes. They are strong, confident boys who have inherited their parents good looks and beautiful coats. 🥰🐰🥰
The lovely Aspen (now Beau) has left for his furever home. Good luck little man, a wonderful life awaits.
❤️🐰❤️
Thank you to Pat for the lovely video update of ‘Jupiter’. Now all settled into his furever home ❤️

❤️ 8 weeks ❤️ I have made the sad decision that this will be Callisto’s last litter. She has done an amazing job rearing 8 strong, healthy kits but, unlike last year, there are not the wonderful homes awaiting them this time. Only 3 have homes lined up and I’ve had no interest in the others. As lovely as an experience it is for me to watch them grow, I don’t want to be responsible for bringing unwanted rabbits into this world when the rescues are already full of them.
It’s because of the relationship that I have with Callisto that I can handle her babies from such a young age with no panic from her. ❤️🐰❤️
